Another Rom Hack

I am pretty sure this is the final or final-enough version of the the hack. It's still abandoned, but should be "done."

There are some issues with it, but they should be minor:

-There may be some enemies that don't work on modern emulators. I'm not really sure what these are aside from one and there's a bad fix in place for it

-Some of these ports sound awful. If they're that awful a future fix may just revert them to SMW music

-I fixed the map like 80 times but it still has issues. I've tried changing some events around but every time I make one level appear another one seems to disappear so you're gonna have some levels that just don't appear at all and I'm not sure if it's always the same ones

If you play this and find something especially odd then let me know. Pipes to nowhere, wrong level names, stuff like that. Or just lemme know in general if you're playing it. I guarantee you'll find something to hate about it, but overall I think it should be enjoyable enough.

Welcome to my new OP

For anybody who is new or doesn't remember, Another ROM Hack is my hack. It is where I hack SMW and I hope people play it! I work on it very sparingly then usually trash a bunch of levels because I don't like them. I'm trying to cut back on that and really trying to get it to a completed stage, but it turns out I REALLY need support on that so I brought the thread back. I really am grateful to people like tatanga, impako, and limepie who playtest and help me out with stuff!

Where has the progress been in the thread downtime? Well, I have been trying to figure out an actual world and level order. There are a few worlds done, a few planned, and a handful of extra levels that probably won't make the cut, but it's progress! I don't want to list anything as done or not, cause I usually go back and change them. In fact, part of the project now is to go back and fix up some older levels as it's way easier than just making new ones.

The difficulty of the game will probably remain at "easy" throughout the entire thing, but I don't really care about making something hard, I'm just worried about it being fun more than anything. Also it will probably stay within the boundaries of just stuff doable with lunar magic only, so if you want some super cool asm thing you probably won't like this! Anyway, hopefully I can gather some interest again and finally finish this thing before too long. I appreciate any helpful comments or criticisms!

Another ROM Hack

This is my normal hack, though, I'm not designing levels with a particular overworld theme or difficulty curve. My plan is to arrange all of that later. This will probably bite me in the ass and give the whole thing a weird difficulty bouncing. But yeah, I'm just going into it that if I get an idea I like, I'll make a level. Sometimes I'll start on one and decide I hate it and remove it, so production is spotty at best. I think it's been over two years now and there's only this much to show that I'm satisfied with. OH WELL it'll be done eventually

Unreasonablario

This is a kaizo hack that's intended to be played using tools like savestates and slowdown. Sometimes I think I go a little overboard with it, as most kaizos end up being pretty doable without. I'm not as motivated to make the levels anymore because I think it's too difficult. It wasn't intended to be a large hack, anyway, so it might be "complete" before too many levels are done (probably around where it hits double digits)

There's always a bunch of minor things I need help with if anybody is kind enough, but for the most part I'm fine with level design and can work around my limitations. Biggest thing I'm concerned with now is having bosses for castles, whether or not they are pre-made SMWC ones or new ones (I have some ideas) but until then I hope everybody enjoys.

So, hard hacks are all the rage nowadays, right? I wanted to try my hand at them. Its been pretty fun, I have two stages mostly made for now. I don't want to slap up an IPS patch just for two levels, but maybe you guys wanna look?

I'm not entirely sure how much bullshit I'm allowed to get away with. With explaining things, that is. I want to try to avoid having lots of "invisible coin block jumps" and "single tile landings between munchers" even though there may be a few of those. Also its likely I'll go back and tweak things on these levels even if I'm on, say, the last level I'd plan on making since I'm like that.

A friend of mine suggested naming it "Unreasoblario" and its ridiculous so I'm probably going with that

Man, hard levels are such a blast to watch in the right conditions, no matter what other people can feel.

I love the 2nd part of 1-1, but the ending seems a bit unfair as unless you know its coming, you cant really dodge the goombas.

I hear you Personalness, but I don't know if I'm going to do anything about it. As I said, I don't know what bullshit I can get away with (I may add messageboxes to some stages explaining some things) but keep in mind that it isn't supposed to be average joe hack, its a bullshit mean one.

I kind of ran out of steam towards the end (it was late night and I was too stupid to just go to bed) so the final version may have more tacked on, or not? These things look a lot longer in Lunar Magic than they end up being when you actually play through them. I'm unsure of the length

I have two other levels planned. One that's full of various Chucks that will probably be more traditional jumping on enemies and stuff rather than pulling off unreasonable precise maneuvers, and one I want to call "Sunshine Day" which will probably involve things that chase you.

I also wanna get in some different tilesets and musics, but I hate like 90% of the music on SMWC and don't care to look at them all, so if you know something good suggest that too, yeah?

I enjoy well made Kaizo hacks, and this seems to fall under that category.

That level seems hard to name. The default pallete makes it seem so...generic. :?

That tile is fixed, yeah. Also I went ahead and added a hoop to jump through with the disco jumping part. I might add some more to the end, I got some steam back after doing the video (the flying parts were especially brutal, so I made them easier)

Levels will at least have a custom background, I searched through some tilesets on SMWC, a lot of stuff looks more techy, and I don't especially want to do something techy quite yet, but don't worry as I do want to make this look a little bit pretty despite the fact that I want to crush people's hopes. I'm not going to go back and make new videos for each tileset, but I'll get a pic or two up when I get around to it.

So consider these videos gameplay demonstrations instead of level showcasings. If/When everything is close to a release, I'll probably go back and do the whole thing

Also having dainegai commenting on one of my videos is pretty cool especially since I watched most of his TASes over the past couple of days.

Edit: Well, I THOUGHT I had a good one for the muncher level, but it didn't have any slopes in it

Yes, this is why its a preview and not an actual level yet. Also they don't move the same distance one way as they do the other. I'm really horrible with changing the values of one to match with the other since they're different and I have to add to one to make it faster, and subtract from the other to do the same. Letters may be involved instead of numbers as well

Well, the level is mostly done, aside from hammering out some bugs (some things have refused to spawn properly, but its just two areas that need tweaking)

Unfortunately, I've given up trying to make a video of it. Its heavy on the fishing boo for the first two rooms, and Mario seems to want to jump into him on my playbacks. I think I'm doing something wrong with savestating, I don't know, I'm not a TASer, and I'm not worried about it. Have a couple screenshots of it instead.

Yep, four areas, and I'd say the second is the hardest. Its the part where Mario refuses to stay alive in, but I'm pretty happy with how the others turned out.

So in summary you can expect:
Fishing boo
Phanto
Jumps off of enemies to avoid munchers and fishing boos at the same time
No spin jumping

I may make one more level then release a demo, people can feel free to post videos or whatever of them doing if if I do.

Which one? ARH is pretty much just sitting there. It has one or two worlds worth of levels, but none that fit together really theme-wise. I have ideas, they just need to be made. Old levels are always being adjusted. There may or may not be a new level, depending on what ends up with the ASMT replacement level. It will most likely go here.

I did realize I deleted pretty much all the youtube videos I had up of it. I might put some back if I get around to it

Unreasonablario is still going? I don't know, man, its only been a week. I have ideas for it, too. Right now I'm trying to think of a puzzle-based ghost house, mostly because I just want to make a big boo fight. There's also that chuck stage I mentioned, which will probably be extremely easy in comparison to the rest of the levels

For the firing speed, I think I found the address you want:

Changing the CMP #$00 (C9 00 in hex) to a AND #$[insert power of 2 here] (29 [same power of 2]) would probably do it. The lower the power of 2 chosen, the faster the firing frequency.

And I think that you might want to slow the rotation speed down just a bit. I mean, is it even possible to miss hitting them at that speed?

Ok, I made them slower but they are still pretty fast (I just randomly put in a number and it ended up like you see in the video and I found it really funny) They were harder to hit than it appears in the video since I just savestated through it. Also slowdown

Also YCZ, are those the numbers I'm supposed to be seeing? I'm guessing what you're telling me isn't what I think it is. I'm guessing I don't want to just open up the hex editor and scroll down to that.
