I don't get on the server much just because I'm not a good builder, but I can help fix anything. I can't build fancy things, but I'm good with redstone, rails, farms, anything that isn't fancy buildings. I have no problems just going around and fixing things either. I used to do it all the time on another server.

We should meet up some time and rebuild those things that got lost by the server reversion (don't worry, it's mostly pathways, no big buildings AFAIK).
Do you have Skype or something?

I have Skype, Google, AIM, and YIM. I have MSN too, but it doesn't always work right. Just let me know which messenger and your name and I'll add you.

Edit: Is it okay for me to remove the old booster systems? I can leave cart dispensers instead so carts are easy to get without typing commands. I may be able to make an automated system too. As in push a button, cart comes out and lands on the track ready to go. I also want to make all the junctions automated if that's okay. It'll only mean replacing a few rails and adding buttons at each junction.

Edit 2.0: I'm looking around and spawn isn't the only rechunked area. I say rechunked because it's like the chunk was deleted and remade at random. I've seen a few of these and they are destroying a few things other than landscape. I know people are saying not to start a new map, but if too much is ruined, it means the map is/was definitely corrupted. I can fix landscapes no problem. I can't fix someone's home or artwork. We may have to start new and salvage what we can with MCEdit or whatever program can copy and paste between maps.

@warioeagle:
Those three things you posted are actually just random copies from somewhere else in the world, they're not actually destroyed building sites.

However, some of my rollercoaster rails got destroyed (nothing I couldn't rebuild though).

Oh, and then we got this problem here too:

Image

But I think BTYM should be able to just copy-paste that from an older backup (in case he still has one of those), since Kadj's house there was pretty much one of the first things that had been built on the server.

Random chunks are being switched around. It's like someone took two random places and switched them. It most likely happened from a corrupted save at some point. It can be fixed with a map editor though as long as chunks didn't just vanish.

I could, but I'd have to take the server down for a day or so. Let's just rebuild stuff.

I just asked warioeagle and he says he's okay with the server being down for a few days. And Punisher wouldn't mind some downtime either if it saves us multiple DAYS of manual work.

Really, there are ALOT of things missing in this rollback, and if you still have a semi-intact new map, it's much easier than rebuilding everything from before August this year.

Rebuilding, starting over, going down for a few days. It really doesn't matter to me. A new map would be cool, but empty unless we work really hard to fill it with stuff or copy and paste what was still intact from before. Rebuilding is fine. I can help since I usually don't do much anyway. I don't mind going down a few days either. We can all find something else to do for a few days, like other games (or Radish Engine for me).

Argh. Later. I'll start tomorrow.

If chunks have been switched does that mean my house still exists somewhere?

Since it's all underground it will be like a treasure hunt.

Probably. If you remember what was above it, it might help. From what I've seen, only pieces of stuff have moved around. Unless you built everything within a chunk (16x16x16 space, starting from 0x0x0), you may have two parts now.

Okay, great news. The backup crashed MC at first, so I thought it was corrupted, but I opened it in MCedit and saved it there, now it works. The server will be down while I upload the working backup, and I saved the fucked up world in case anybody wants it.

This is good to hear. I'll check it out later to see if there's anything I need to redo. I know my ice cannon thing is probably gone since I built that just recently. I probably have a few tracks to redo too, but it should be fine. The junctions aren't hard to redo and now I'll know for sure if there are any destroyed tracks. I found a few before that were never fixed from being griefed/accidentally ruined.

Well fuck, the map doesn't work. It looks fine in MCedit, and saves fine, but when it loads on the server it just screws up. So all we can use is the screwed up one. This is what I get:

Code: Select all

Chunk file at -4,1 is in the wrong location; relocating. (Expected -4, 1, got -23, 17)
Chunk file at -4,2 is in the wrong location; relocating. (Expected -4, 2, got -2, 17)
Chunk file at -3,4 is in the wrong location; relocating. (Expected -3, 4, got -3, 5)
Chunk file at -2,4 is in the wrong location; relocating. (Expected -2, 4, got -6, 9)
Then I flew around for 10 minutes and got one more. That means there are ~5 chunk errors, excluding wtfux and the tree ball. I think that five chunk errors sounds pretty easy to deal with.

Did you try copying the main part (like a 800x800 cube) of the intact map (that works in MCedit) onto a fresh, clean one and just saving and using that one? Maybe it's just a file error and not exactly a "tile error".

I could try that, but MCedit tried to repair the region and messed it up. Hold on.

e: Can't copy it, it gives me an error.

Does that mean there's not going to be a fixed map? Personally, I wouldn't mind starting a new map and getting a few people to build a starter city or something.

The map is largely fixed, only a few railways and off parts remain damaged, houses and spriteart are all okay as far as I've seen.
Thing is, we've worked on this server for almost a year now and I'd hate to just see it gone like that. Everything worked out though, what's broken right now can be fixed in under a week, so there's really no reason to start all over.

Railways are no big deal. I can fix up any paths/intersections that need fixing. Terrain probably isn't really an issue since people will just level areas as they please to make stuff.

that took way too long

Server now saves a backup automatically every week. Cron also checks every minute for MC, and restarts it if it's not running. So if the server crashes, just wait a minute.

Okay, you know you've stopped paying attention when you accidentally set the weekly backups to run every minute of every monday. Woops. Fixed. Sorry if anyone got on and got spammed by backup messages.

You may want to remove the chests at spawn. Not only can users not use them, but they're also glitched now. They're facing the wrong way and have the old graphics still.

I'm not sure how I feel about the creative mode. I think it's too easy to break blocks and you may end up breaking something you didn't want to break. It should make building easier though.

Edit: There are still a few chunk errors near spawn. I haven't looked all over, but that is the biggest area I've seen so far. Best way to tell is track sloping on air (not possible to make happen normally) and powered rails being powered with no power source. It may also affect someone's house/project. I followed a track that just leads to a hole in seemingly a part of some building.
