Hypothetical "SNES Classic" Games

Post by YelseyKing »

So. With the success of the NES Classic Edition, it seems like an "SNES Classic Edition" would be the logical follow up.

However, what games should be on it? That's, well, the point of this thread. Although it'd probably have 20-30 games on it, what are some games you'd most like to see on a hypothetical "SNES Classic"? List ten popular games you'd like to see, and as an added bonus, ten more niche games you'd like to see on an outside chance. I'm not placing any restrictions on it, either; it doesn't have to have been released in North America, or even in *English*.

Mine, in no particular order, would be... hrm.

Popular:
-Final Fantasy 6
-Chrono Trigger
-Secret of Mana
-Earthbound
-Super Mario RPG
-Super Mario All-Stars
-Kirby Super Star
-Donkey Kong Country 2 (likely they'd all be here, but since I limited it to ten, just putting my favorite)
-Super Metroid
-Zelda: Link to the Past

Niche:
-Actraiser
-Dragon View
-Live-A-Live (Japanese-only JRPG by Square)
-Secret of Evermore
-Lost Vikings 2 (and 1, but again, ten games)
-Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (again, all three, but if I had to pick...)
-Soul Blazer
-Tetris 2 (can I be the only person alive who liked this better than the original? Probably. :P )
-Breath of Fire 2
-Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals

...yeah, I'm an RPG fan, in case you couldn't tell. Niche as hell, and definitely dreaming if I expect all these RPGs, but hey, it's just for fun. Now let's see s'more lists!

I'd put Wario's Woods (SNES) in for some variety, and Yoshi's Island in, too.

Although if they wanted to actually put effort into their emulations, I can see the latter being a bit problematic.

Though, it would be difficult for Nintendo to get full rights to include Yoshi's Island, because the Super FX 2 chip used in the cartridge is still owned by - I think - some other company that aren't willing to let Nintendo have the rights. That's the reason SMW2 isn't available on the virtual console.

I might be totally wrong here, but this is what I've heard.

Most SNES rpgs are unlikely, particularly previously-unreleased ones as that means more localization work. Maybe Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and FF6 would make the cut, but other than that... The only JRPGs on the NES classic were FF1 and FF3, and you only had FF3 in J territories. Time Sink games don't do as well on console in the modern era since they're something you'd want to keep on hand.

I definitely agree with Zelda 3 and SMW and Super Metroid - they're the big three and everyone's going to want them. I don't see SMAS making the cut since it's already a collection of remakes. That they already re-released for the Wii. If they do SMAS at all it'll be the SMAS+SMW combo, to save a bit of ROM space.

I'd honestly want to see Star Fox on SNES Classic but it uses the SuperFX chip. Specialized emulation and all that.

There would probably be one per city.

Anyways, I'd think Kirby Super Star is a given ... although Dreamland 3 would be good too.

Wonder how likely Konami would jump on the Bomberman train and at least release Super Bomberman 1 and 2 (in a SNES classic or VC). Those were my childhood games.
