In all honesty, Frontiers looks okay to me. Not even a faint praise deal. There looks like there's effort here, and I hope it comes together halfway decent.

I'm not impressed by the open-zone gameplay, it seems passable. But the cyberspace stages seem kind of decent? At least less jank compared to Forces. I'm gonna p*rate it for my own judgement and be on the look out for hardcore fan (like oldschool fan not blind SoniTwitter stan or Adventure/Unleashed fanboy) feedback at the same time before supporting the release on the eShop or Steam. I feel like people like Somecallmejohnny and people on Sonic Retro (last I checked, Twitter people might have flooded in) and SFGHQ are the best barometers to denote a Sonic game's quality, since they've been with the series for a long time.

I simply do not trust Twitter kids or mainstream games journalism when it comes to Sonic games, the former is bound to flights of fancy (like suddenly deciding 06 was good all along, they were right with Unleashed HD though, werehog sweet cheeks your stages are bad tho) and the latter tends to give an outsider opinion and not exactly a fan's opinion, which sounds elitist on paper, but to me is an important distinction to make when it comes to a less accessible series like SaGa or Sonic as the games have a janky difficulty curve and can be an acquired taste to people who haven't grown up with them, no "git gud" intended.

For me, it definitely feels more inspired than Forces thematically (which was really just banking off of Generations and Mania's ideas) other than maybe Forces' Metropolis, but the actual gameplay loop still seems to be kinda mid. The cyberspace levels look interesting, but Sonic's always been one of those games where I really need to get hands-on with it to fully form my opinion on it (unless it's just obviously bad like '06).

Yeah, this probably deserves to go in here since he was one of the original creators of the series. Yuji Naka, famed developer that threw his subordinates under the bus and always tried to take most of any positive credit for himself, was arrested for insider trading. If you thought Balan Wonderworld would be the Square-Enix game to ruin whatever was left of his reputation, Dragon Quest Tact might've just one-upped it!

Totally not a copy/paste from raocow's thread which should really just be about the games. Anyhoo, pfft.

So uh, question because of imminent games:

Is it worth getting Sonic Colors Ultimate? Or should I just find a copy of Colors for the Wii? I have a Wii U, soooooo...

I think OG Colors may be better, I'm not sure if Ultimate's still 100% stable compared to the original. Colors is even somewhat easy to emulate if you have a beefy enough PC, so if you don't have a Wii U you're still okay.

The main console versions of Generations onward all have PC versions on Steam, should you need them. PS360 Unleashed is the outlier for now, even 06 is getting two improved fanmade ports to preserve the lunacy, slowly but surely.

I'm aware of that. I got 4 and Generations from the Steam sale this week, those were the PC games I was picking up. Frontiers I'll get at some point before raocow plays it, but not right now. Colors was the one I was concerned about, and judging from the reception on Steam, seems like they have yet to fix the bugs on Ultimate, even though it's been out a couple years at this point.

I don't know for sure. I know they patched up the Ultimate version to where it runs better, but the old Wii one's still the definitive version to me. Others might disagree on that, but eh.

That's half in-character for her, she's usually somewhat cold and standoffish, and she's literally a princess - and that's half her being in-character for the murder mystery. She's given the "titan of industry" role, and dresses to match. But she does totally get into the whole heist game sidestory thing with enthusiasm, and seems to enjoy hanging out with Rouge, a character interaction I don't really think we've ever seen before?

I hope it's more like Generations classic Sonic and less like Forces classic Sonic.

Looked like neither from the trailer. The vibe I got was New Sonic Mario Bros., so some speed but definitely toned down to be able to handle multiplayer.
