Some of them might already noticed, but i am Speedrunning the ninth Installment of Zun: Touhou Kaeidzuka ~ Phantasmagoria of Flower View since around Autumn 2014 because it is a untouched Game nobody tried a Speedrun of any kind. I searched the web if someone made a attempt or inofficial run of it, but there's nothing to be found anywhere. And so i decided to make Speedruns of Touhou 9 ... on Lunatic!
Speedrunning Touhou 9 is like trying 1cc'ing Phantasmagoria of Dim. Dreams: If they got hit or not is based truly on RNG and this is quite hella random as fuck. The main Goal also was to get a "no miss"-Round (or better say: don't loose once!) with Medicine (Because she has the most useful EX) wich also is kinda hella hard on any difficulty.
And so, i trained bit by bit with long breaks and such (because the more often i playing this in sequence, the worse it gets) and had no luck getting throught at least once without a loss.
But then, at January 4th, i finally did a no miss run with a time of 10:46!
This was actually the first inofficial Speedrun that exists in the Web, wich i am actually pretty happy for it. And now, that i know i can do that, i am trying to improve the Time.
One Week later at January 17th, i Improved my Time by 1 Minute and 7 Seconds, clocking at 9:39!
last but at least.... imma still trying to improve the Time. But i never came close to that since that Day. Imma pretty sure, with very good RNG am i able to get a sub 9 Minutes... if they ever will do that of course.
Also on April 6th, i succeeded a no miss Aya run with a Time of 9:59
The point is now: It seems like nobody wants somehow speedrunning it even when Videos are avaiable. Imma just a little bit... competitionless some sort. Yeah of course i could post it on SDA, but imma too lazy just for that to create an account and/or having an account for an forum i actually never use.
What do u think about that? Is it useful that also some other People will trying speedrunning that?

There's only so much that you can do to improve your time on a heavily scripted game like Touhou.
Why don't you eat me?

PoFV is not at all in the same vein as other Touhou games. It's more of a direct competition between you and your opponent.Grounder wrote:There's only so much that you can do to improve your time on a heavily scripted game like Touhou.
...The problem is that the "direct competition" is one to see who can survive the longest, and you win when your opponent makes too many mistakes. This means that while the matter of if you win is entirely skill-based and under your direct control, the matter of when you win is something you have little to no say in. Unless you've actually played the game so much that you can afford to pay attention to the opponent's screen and have formed actual consistent strategies to speed up the losing process for the opponent, I don't see this taking off. (And while I wouldn't put it past you or others to make that happen, I naturally have serious doubts. The CPU can pull ridiculous dodges anytime it feels like it.)
Basically, it's a good game, but not a good game for a speedrun. I'd probably compare it to speedrunning a slot machine.

I actually found something out: When u relaise a Charged attack right before the opponent tries to dodge the bulled, the AI gets confused and ends with an hit. But like u said: U must be able to look at the opponents Screen, otherwise it wont work.cheez8 wrote:PoFV is not at all in the same vein as other Touhou games. If that's true, then I guess I stand corrected! It's still going to take time to attract other runners though, especially to a lesser-known game with as much of an RNG presence as this has. Keep at it and you'll gather attention for sure~
