Splatoon is a pretty fun game... but my house's wi-fi doesn't agree with my Wii U. I have to mess around with it literally every time I want to do online stuff, and it's not worth the hassle.

Yeah, that sucks. Kinda wish they had a consistent timeframe for NA Splatfests like they do for Europe/Australia and Japan. Still, as long as we get Sea Snails it shouldn't be too bad.
Anyway, can't wait to read up on the results! I'll be expecting my guaranteed 18 snails (plus potential change) the coming morning.

Yeah I was all like "Oh cool I'm gonna play all night just to see what happens" then it overed so I beat the single player campaign instead.

Nice speedrun!
Also, looks like Team Roller Coasters pulled off an upset in NA and beat the more popular Water Slides for an epic win. While I was on the latter team, I have to say that is really awesome since it's the first time popularity wasn't a major factor like before.

I am annoyed because a carbon roller forgot he was playing ranked and decided to paint around spawn. On Kelp Dome.
We lost.
Also I think that carbon rollers aren't actually as good as the dynamo roller in ranked. Just an opinion though.

IDK. Dynamo Rollers just have such a HUGE startup. So easy to read, you practically need to hit over a wall or around a corner.
I really just feel like the best Rollers, at least in Ranked, are the ones that really know how to do Assassin Roller. Since Carbon Rollers are so quick getting that one hit kill out, it's really good for routing the enemy team.
On the other hand, on Splat Zones like Towers, Skatepark, you know, the ones with the really small zones, Dynamo's huge flick area is really good to contest a zone. But you really need to corner or catch someone by surprise to constantly kill, which I don't feel is good to rely on in lieu of more reliable options.
For Tower Control, just hide behind the pillar opposite the Roller and he ends up completely vulnerable.
There are a few situations where Dynamo can win out, but overall I feel like it's barely a contest in Carbon Roller's favor as the better weapon in Ranked.
In Turf War though...

This is starting to get frustrating. I feel like i'm bad but I'm usually near the top of the score thingy. Is there something I should be doing aside from avoiding gunfights whenever possible (cause we both always die?) and trying to paint the ground cause that's all I got. Or maybe I'm just on a lot of bad teams
Also UGHHH I hate this skatepark map. It's either 100% loss or win by like .2%
Edit: Oh I like ranked mode a lot better

What weapon are you maining?
What's your gear setup?
What I can really tell you is try to practice winning out in duels instead of stalemating, but make sure you always take them with you at very least. Although sometimes it's better to back off, there's of course times when you need to disrupt the enemy team more than clean up after them.
As for Skatepark, one thing of note is that using the ramps to get up the center tower is easily the worst way to climb it. That's all I can really think of to say right now.
One of my favorite maps, in contrast.

e: I agree, unless you can get a group of at least 4 friends to play Turf War with. Learn how each other plays, play to counter them, get teamed up together against randoms and absolutely body them... Really good fun.

The answer to the first two questions is I dunno! I'm kind of messing around with stuff, but I keep going back to the zapper (uhh, the orange one? it has the useless turret thing and the ink rocket) but I don't think I have anything I feel 100% comfortable with yet. And my gear is just ??? cause I don't really have anything too decent. I guess you're supposed to use those snails to add more stuff onto what you have or whatever.
Also I think I'm just bad at aiming. A lot of times I feel like I'm dead after the other guy has been long dead. I had a really noticeable one tonight where there was a roller guy a pretty decent bit away, he died, and then like a second later I exploded too. Most of the time it's way quicker but I'm wondering if maybe it's some connectivity thing too (when i'm not just bad at aiming)

Stuff
I'm not really sure what the best gear setup for the N Zap is, but I do know one thing:
You need to learn how useful the sprinkler can be. The best sprinklers are ones that are hard find or hard to reach, but encompass a good amount of strategic area. For example, a good one is getting it on the train tracks in Depot.
Here's an album showing a few other really good spots:

Your dreaded Skatepark, for example:

As opposed to the obvious placing it in the middle of the freaking pillar in the middle.
Try going into Recon mode and looking for good spots. Get creative.
Also yeah, lag is a problem at times. Getting splatted by a Kraken 10 feet away going away to you is the dumbest thing.

Yeah, I'm sure the sprinkler is better than I give it credit for. It just doesn't have that immediate effect so it's hard for me to gauge its usefulness. Usually when i see an enemy one it's like "Oh" then i shoot it and it's gone. I liked grenades or bombs or whatever because they seemed to do more but I can see the argument about sprinklers being better (or just better in different situations)
I just like playing stupid aggressive and jumping into their spawns when I do the regular battles (this isn't why I always die mind you) which I know is a bad idea. TBH it seems to me that paint roller would be my ideal weapon but... I just couldn't get into it! I like machine gunning stuff way more. Maybe I'll try more paint rollers in the future. I may just end up doing more ranked though cause those games actually felt close and got crazy near the ends of them.
I was actually putting my sprinkler on the tower when I was playing yesterday. Not sure if that was a good idea or not but it felt fun so why not? Like I said, I'll probably be doing more of that. I don't really care about rank and don't know if I should. I might have to actually read on some things cause I didn't actually know the cat gave you money.
Anyway yeah. I'm usually on skype if someone wants to coax me into playing

The sprinkler is a lot of fun to use since you can get really creative with it. I use it a lot since I main the Kelp Splatterscope, so it's a good sub for a support weapon like a sniper.
Although, to be fair, ranked battles are all snipers are good for, so I tend to avoid Turf War.

Tower Control is very hit-or-miss for me, especially in Walleye Warehouse and Urchin Underpass. Moray Towers is my jam, though!

How to make the E-Litre 3K more Dangerous? Just add an Scope on it!

i dont find the scopes that helpful really, the reticle helps aiming well enough and i like being able to catch someone trying to sneak up out of the corner of my eye.
Though lately, ive just been inking the halls behind me, and when Im not targeting someone, taking a quick glance at the gamepad to see if someone is coloring over them and going to try to sneak attack.

The scoped E-liter is bomb, guys; I love it. I wasn't sure about the burst bombs at first, but they're actually really good for inking walls to support other team members and so you can get to higher ground. It's also nice to finally have a way to deal with people close to you, since the bombs kill in two hits. The echolocator is super useful, as well. All in all, it's a very good setup.
Like you said, I just check the map occasionally to see if anyone is sneaking up on me. The scope helps with precision a lot.

Honestly, I'm going to wait until Moray Towers gets into circulation for Turf Wars to see if it's really that good for me. Considering how sniper-friendly the stage is, I'm most likely going to need one there.
As for the Neo Splash-O-Matic (which also got released yesterday), I'm really digging it as much as the original. It doesn't have Suction Bombs or Bomb Rush, but the Burst Bombs are handy in a pinch and can complement the weapon's precision for easy splatting. Also, the Inkzooka is going to be pretty handy for those far-off foes, which is nice since you can quickly build up turf with the gun to gain it.
In unrelated news, finally beat all the amiibo challenges and got every special unlock they had. Especially the "limited ink" challenges. My head still hurts from bonking it on the GamePad out of sheer frustration...at least it's made out of Nintendium....

I love how if you get all the way to the end of the level and free the Zap Fish with the very last bit of ink, you still lose anyway. Really super amazing design there.
Although to be fair, I was playing like garbage that time.
Other than that time, I didn't find the challenges that bad. But that one time made me SUPER salty.

Those ink-saver challenges were probably the hardest thing in the entire game. XD I always ran out right at the end of that one level with the sponge blocks and the ink cannon at the end.
