my only experience with it was being 7, and messing around with it (and horribly failing because I had no clue what was going on) on a church computer with windows 95.

I don't really have a top ten, but I have a top two, does that count?
1) Yoshi's Island
This game is probably the best designed game I've ever played. The gameplay was completely smooth and flawless, the graphics were beautiful and perfectly stylized, every level oozed its own flavor, and the music was top notch. I can't name a single bad thing about this game, it's a total joy from beginning to end. It might be a little nostalgia talking (the GBA remake was pretty much my first real video game), but looking at it again with a critical eye gained from gaming experience, I still feel it's the absolute best the platforming genre has to offer.
2) Mother 3
This game is beautiful. I'm not saying this lightly either, there are only a few pieces of media in this world I can truly point at and call beautiful, and let me tell you, this game by far earns that title. Every single aspect of the game just overflows with detail and care, from the amazing spritework and smooth animation, to the battle system that (unlike most RPGs) never feels like a chore, to the absolutely god-tier soundtrack, to the humor, to the wide range of unique, interesting locales, to the characters that are a joy to interact with to... fucking everything. And the writing. Hooooly fuck, the writing. I don't think I can adequately describe the sheer quality of this game's writing, it's that well done. It's a game whose soul is right there on the table, waiting in anticipation for you to inspect all the crevasses and hidden depths of it. It's the most genuine game I've ever played.

My favorite game is The Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control II). I haven't found any game I like better than or even as much as it.
After that, King's Quest VI, Endgame: Singularity, Xonotic, Kobo Deluxe, and Torus Trooper closely follow, in no particular order. The unethical (exclusively proprietary software) game Super Metroid also closely follows UQM in terms of how much I like it from a design and gameplay standpoint.
