E3 2014

Post by Bwarch »

AW YISS, E3 begins tomorrow! Even though we seem to talk about this every year I can't quite find a general thread for it, so just start a new one I say.

First off, schedule times.

Image

And for Nintendo specifically, they're going with a digital event this year, just like last year.

It is a pity we won't get to see Nintendo's grand standing anymore (Zelda orchestra and Miyamoto entrances anyone?) but I suppose last year's Nintendo Direct just worked out so well that they went with it again for this year :(

Nintendo has a spiffy teaser-ish video up in collaboration with Mega 64

And there is of course the announced Brawl Invitational Tournament, which is also coinciding with Bestbuy to have Smash Bros U available to play at their locations!

And of course we have the ever popular leaks and rumors before the fact! Two lineups found:
http://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... leak_1.jpg
http://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2014/0 ... leak_2.jpg

The first one is fanboy wishes and nothing more imo, way too much on there that's not likely. The second one I could actually see.

Yeah that's just ridiculous. I mean jeesh, if you're gonna fake something at least make it believable! Just look at all that stuff:
-new Advance Wars
-new F-Zero
-Majora's Mask 3D
-new Metroid by Retro Studios
-3 new Nintendo franchises
-new Paper Mario
-new Star Fox

That is just way too much. I could believe it if it were a quarter of all those. Hell, I find it hard to believe they'd print it out on a sheet of paper.

If I'm not mistaken, Majora's Mask 3D has been hinted at for a pretty long time now.

Though yeah, besides maybe new Paper Mario (though, wouldn't IntSys be pretty busy with SMT x Fire Emblem right now?) and new Star Fox, most of that sounds pretty unlikely when it's all thrown together at once like that.

Oh, since it's kind of relevant and I don't want three posts in a row in the Humble Bundle thread (even if they are days apart), this is a thing: The E3 Digital TIcket. Includes Civilation III Complete, Anomaly 2, MX vs ATV Reflex, a bunch of DLC stuff no one probably cares about, and a month of Twitch Turbo.

This is the first time I've ever actually legit followed E3. It's pretty neat stuff.

Seeing their discussions and footage and whatnot about the new Star Wars Battlefront game have made me even more excited for it. Too bad it seems like it won't be released for a pretty long time. Well, they pretty much said that they're not close enough to being finished for them to comfortably declare a release date, which to me translates to "it'll be a while".

I caught bits and pieces of the other games they were showing. From what I saw the new Sims game seems really awkward, although I've never seen or touched a Sims game in my life so I wouldn't know anything about it. The FPS's they showcased, including the new Call of Duty and Halo, all look really, really neat. Too bad I seriously doubt I'll pick 'em up!

Time to go do stuff in the outside world and come back and watch some again later.

Looking at highlights, Microsoft's looked okay while EA's poor conference must've been in the conceptual stages like their games. Ubisoft's next, but I'm more interested in seeing what Sony and Nintendo have at this point.

Even now that I own both a 360 and PS3 I still could not care less about Sony and Microsoft's E3 events.
E3 in my mind is "Nintendo announcements."

Basically crossing my fingers for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Screen on the Gamepad and if I get that I'll be happy.

Basically.

Though I will probably dig through Sony a LITTLE bit as they can put out some pretty neat games sometimes, the big thing will indeed be Nintendo.

Sony, Microsoft, and Ubisoft all had okay conferences. EA's was horrid. Show me what you got later this morning, Nintendo.

The Konami presentation is in one hour. Saying this cause it's not in the OP.
Also I should have posted this earlier : http://www.e3countdown.com/

Basically this. But I also try to watch the other conferences, although I often ends up bored or disapointed.
This year, watched Microsoft: at least this time they had games. Too bad most of them don't interest me and are multiplat anyway (but they say that DLC will come first on this version, when DLC shouldn't be a thing to be proud damnit). Still some games they showed looked cool (like the one with the youtube video two post above mine). I didn't watched EA but I know it's shit like every years. Ubisoft was pretty bad, some dance (the streamer put Guile's theme over it so it was bearable), more asscreed and sequels I don't care and no Rayman. Didin't watched Sony because it was 3am and I won't miss my sleep time for that. Will also miss Konami (who isn't live anyway) because I'm at work.
Also I fucking hate when they annonce a game and show only cinematics but no gameplay.

So yeah I'm waiting for Nintendo, but I'm not putting my expectations too high just in case to avoid disapointement. But since they have smash bros I doubt I will.

Looking through summaries of Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft and EA's conferences...can't find anything I'd care about in any of them. I really try but I just don't. All my irl friends laugh at me for not having any main modern Sony/MS stuff. I know there's good games on there but they really don't interest me enough to justify buying any of it.

Regarding Nintendo...I care about what they're doing, but I still have to catch up with all their previous consoles. Still alot of games on SNES, GC and GBA that I need to play before I can get into Wii U/3DS. I sold my Wii a few years ago, probably not gonna get it again, since the Wii U is backwards compatible.

Okay so I took a quick peek through Sony's youtube for trailers and here's the games I'm interested in that were shown off in the E3 for Sony.

Entwined: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv5SEynpCWQ

This one is probably going to be a MUST BUY for me, and it came out TODAY so hey!!

Night in the Woods (OF COURSE) (Though I'll probably buy this for PC instead): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNVklzubWnQ

EarthNight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yDdPU0bHf0

Grim Fandango Remake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG2wFVfi5Rw

I never got to play the original so hey, remastered, sure. Why not?

ABZÛ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=403DsARZqoo

I'll check it out JUST because Austin is composing on the music side. Fanboy galore there.

Pavilion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOX2odz6DDM

It's got a neat art style okay don't look at me like that frick. I can be won over by cool art.

Lost in all the hubbub of the other conferences was the announcement that Shantae and the Pirate's Curse will also be hitting the Wii U along with the 3DS. Here's the new trailer for it.

Gunman Clive 2 was also announced for the 3DS. The first was a fun, short Wild West take on old-school platformers like Mega Man and Contra.

You know what? You should probably just be looking at Nintendo's YT page since they've been uploading trailers to eShop games for a bit now.

I looked at this because of Isocitration's LP of that other Shantae game and I gotta say it does look pretty awesome. Too bad Wii U and 3DS are not PC!
EDIT: Are there even games that they mention at E3 that are coming to PC/Steam? I know I haven't probably even checked out half the games mentioned at E3 but none of them have been PC.

Night in the Woods will be on PC, GTA V is confirmed for multiplatform, and I would be surprised if the Grim Fandango remake didn't come out for PC considering that just about everything else Double Fine has done is on the PC. Call of Duty will of course be on PC. Star Wars: Battlefront as well.

There are in fact multiplatform games that are on there.

BOOP, NINTENDO IN 2 HOURS, BEEP.

And even though I haven't seen it talked about/seen a trailer, The Witness has a playable demo on the show floor.

http://the-witness.net/news/

Something really weird that I've been seeing is that Nintendo's event is only gonna be half an hour long o.0? I sure hope they use the time wisely.

Looks like Time Magazine Jumped the Gun on an interview with Shigero Miyamoto, and ended up leaking what his new projects were.

ALRIGHT SHOW'S OVER GUYS.

If you want to watch the full thing you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GisRY6h100U
I recommend, it was good and really well put together. Good job Nintendo you win at E3.

Here's my notes and all the trailers:
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m91qkP5ZaN8
Bayonetta 2 shown off further
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvP4EFjagfU
Smash U has figures ala Skylanders, they affect gameplay.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odUjMhc6YgU
Pokemon remakes shown off
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFlL2pW6lY8
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqEOsvTmcoE
Zelda U (Seems to be taking some heavy inspiration from Skyrim, art style seems a lot like Skyward Sword but not identical)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHEECedZXOw
Mario Maker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLS458ekSEI
Splatoon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L54s2m1dPs

Palutena announced in Smash Bros as playable character
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqTW13AYniY
Mario Party 10
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I69x8Bvm9zM
Yoshi's Wooly World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vR8EHatIIE

---
My thoughts:
I think Yoshi's Wooly World looks good and I hope it's better than the past games for the fans' sake. I like the graphic style and think the view is much better since YNI was way too zoomed in.

I REALLY like Splatoon, I think that could be a lot of fun and I like how much thought they've put into mechanics.

Palutena's reveal in Smash was AMAZING OH MY GOODNESS WHAT A GOOD REVEAL VIDEO.

Captain Toad looks fun.

Mario Maker unfortunately looks very much basic, too basic for the forum to get interested in I think.

Is it okay to mention it without spoilers then since it's over?

I really that cartoony squid shooting game who's name is a pun that escapes me at the moment. Maybe that's just my soft spot though since I think squids are cool :P

Also, it appears that what everyone thought about that Mario Maker was right. It isn't very impressive, but hey, at least you can use NSMBU AND the original SMB graphics.

Yes it is okay to talk about it without spoilers now that everything is revealed officially. Splatoon is the squid game and it looks really great.

I was REALLY hoping Mario Maker would be impressive but it's really not unfortunately lol
