also, Nintendo does DLC and updates nowadays, so the likelihood is that once Mario Maker releases, that won't be the "final" version
who knows how big it could expand eventually?

(1) Aesthetic options
(2) World Building
(3) The ability to go beyond the programming (opening up new avenues and options years after the games release)
Having said that, Mario Maker looks like a must buy.
(1) It's polished as all get out (both as an editor and from a gameplay front)
(2) The new gameplay elements and slew of options puts vanilla SMBX and Mario World to shame (not to mention the NSMB franchise)
(3) It should have a much larger community than the online Mario fangame community. Bigger community = more levels and more people playing your levels
Short of legal action, Mario Maker won't destroy the online Mario Fan Game community. The limitations of an official builder will prevent that. But then I still enjoy messing around with Mario Paint despite access to much better art and music programs, so I suspect Mario Maker will have legs on it for years to come. This game will probably be the Wii U's crowning jewel, short of something spectacular popping up over the next year or two. And judging by this year's E3, that ain't happening.
Couldn't have said it any better myself.

"A postgame level created by a certain guest level maker had to be pulled from the game because the company said person works for cannot allow him to show any kind of endorsement for SMBX or any other product that could be seen as a competitor to Mario Maker."
is my guess, but the whole premise is wishful thinking in itself.

While I'm sure there'll be some disclosure at some point, the vague nebulousness of this makes me think that it's something awkward like that.
And to be honest, no one should be that surprised - Mario is Nintendo's sacred cow after all. The fact that they're now in the game maker space for it, there's going to be fallout.

That would make some sense, but given that Mario Maker has been known about since last E3 (a year ago), and MAGLX2 started sign-ups about 5 months ago, I'm having some trouble envisioning a scenario where something was planned and progressed far enough to be an actual thing only for the guest contributor to suddenly go "OH WAIT SHIT I'M NOT ALLOWED TO ACTUALLY DO THIS BECAUSE MARIO MAKER EXISTS, DELETE EVERYTHING, SORRY."
Unless work on the MAGLX2 postgame started like 9 whole months before sign-ups even opened.

All I was trying to say was that a formal Mario Maker MaGL is unlikely as neither myself or raocow share that excitement. Other contests could be neat and I certainly won't hesitate to accept them in the subforum should you choose to make them. As someone burned by Mario Maker, I'm unfortunately kinda biased against it regardless of its final outcome or quality, but that's totally my problem-ish so I won't let it impact my modding or whatever)
No offense to you ,raocow or the others, but its like hearing a sculpter complain about how limited legos are. Most of the more experienced romhackers/Mario X things creators are at a level far beyond what mario maker is offering, this is for people who want to make mario games, and not something extremely complicated.
Also calling it "burned by" seems a bit much when this is nintendo's games and characters afterall, and nothing they do would be spiting you personally.

Except I'm pretty sure it is spiting her personally, because apparently whatever the hell Nintendo's done effects MaGLx2 and nothing else, which again makes absolutely no sense but there you are, going by her literally impossible story, this is indeed the case

Even still, to me, that sounds really out of scope for what should be a contest package, where the main feature should be the the levels made for the contest.
I dunno, after seeing the packaging and presentation of the last two VLDCs, I really feel like SMWC got it right, and packaged it in such a great fashion, that looking back at MaGLX1 just looks like the complete wrong way to do it for me now.

I hate to be the debbie downer here, but I hope the actual levels submitted to the contest aren't fully eclipsed by this magnificent post-game that's been a lot larger than any of us could have anticipated.

It did work last time, so it will work again. We have also developed a lot since the last hub, which did serve it's purpose, but could have been a lot better with the new tools.

Fully agree. After seeing VLDC8, I'm really starting to feel like these contests should be less of "who can make the best level", but a celebration of the community, and a chance for people to make a level and get it scored, and for a community to come together to make levels.
Very quickly in the VLDC8 LP I stopped caring about scores, and just wanted to see what people could make with zero pressure.

I love all the extra touches they've brought to the old games. Whether it's Magikoopas in SMB3, the new powerups, more springboard interactions, the music blocks having musical notes coming out of them when you bounce...

I think those new skins are really good looking too. I hope they made them different looking on different modes. Having official smb, smb2, smb3, and smw versions of spriteart for smash characters would be useful.
Edit: especially so if they also have all the different power-up states too.

I think they said the Amiibo costumes only work with the SMB1 theme.

Well this is odd according to this video SMW lava isn't instant death in the game:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3snfnk_iUA
Yoshi can walk on lava too.
Oh yeah it was confirmed in the first live treehouse on Tuesday that the amiibo costumes only work with the SMB 1 theme.
It's a shame I'd like to see 16-bit Wii fit trainer.
Not sure if this video was posted here yet but it shows off some of the online features:

Well that's odd about the lava though it's most likely still instant death.
And here's Day 2 of SMM. Showcases more of the level designer.

Oops my bad, that's actually pretty neat let's you create "fake lava".
Just saw this on the live stream:

Looks like there will be 80+ costumes! Keep in mind the ones shown so far have their own death and victory sound effects.
EDIT:
This sounds awesome:
