Official "Mario Maker"!
http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/5/5784190 ... 2014-rumor
Just heard about this, and while this idea technically exists, I think it'd be cool to see what Nintendo does with it.

Re: Official "Mario Maker"?
placing bet right now, it will only be an editor for mario 1, maybe a play luigi option, and will be really simple.
I will probably still buy it.

Oh gods that would be horrendous.
Nintendo isn't that big of a jerk, and if Mario Maker is the game that they've been hyping they need enough content to fill an hour and a half.

If NES remix is any indication, there's not much to expect from these concepts.
It could be something very lackluster, or they could redeem themselves with something actually worthwhile. We'll see.

Re: Official "Mario Maker"?
It's really not within Nintendo's view to care about what small online communities are up to.
If they come out with an official level editor it will be the most widely used Mario level editor by far, quickly eclipsing all the levels ever made on SMWC and in SMBX alone. Even if it blows.

You mean all the levels made in the course of 8 years in quick succession by hundreds upon hundreds of users? That may be stretching it a bit.Bwarch wrote:quickly eclipsing all the levels ever made on SMWC
I'd need to see how this would turn out. Wouldn't get it, but I'd just be curious as to what it is.
A normal guy, if you can believe it.

I stand by my point. An online community is one thing, Nintendo reaches out to millions. Perhaps it would take some time to eclipse, but I think it would still happen.

Yeah. The levels would have a larger percentage of bad (because the more accessible something is, the more possible it is for someone to use it without really caring or trying that hard), but there would be tons and tons and tons of them.
It's not like SMW hacking would become "obsolete", though. It'd still just be a different thing that some people do.

Re: Official "Mario Maker"?
Absolutely agreed, on both points. Though it would be interesting to see if Talkhaus picked it up at all and messed around with it, depending on who good it is. If it exists at all, haha.

Yeah, someone could've just made a sign, taken a picture of it and been like "leak this, it'll be hilarious".

Lol. How would Nintendo ever come up with those crazy and innovative new ideas without borrowing the tireless efforts of Redigit? I know SMBX was the first time I ever encountered such an idea as "storing a bomb for later".
Re: Official "Mario Maker"?
tbh this is what I'm really thinking? I want to say it's fake but its like...this isn't something super wanted and amazing to be considered automatically fake so it could possibly be real? idk anymore.agie777 wrote:Yeah, someone could've just made a sign, taken a picture of it and been like "leak this, it'll be hilarious".

exept Hello, and SMB, and SMW2:YI, and pokemon, and anything that'd require people to pay to use.Blivsey wrote:Look forward to A Mario Maker Thing coming soon, because the Talkhaus just can't resist a level editor
There's no way that anyone could convince enough people from the talkhaus to pay for a watered down service that we already have for free in spades to make a project.

If it does turn out to be real, look forward to seeing another 10.000 1-1 remakes, block-parades and kaizo's. If anything, anything from either SMWC, Talkhaus or any other mario hacking community will instantly be some of the best to come out of the editor.
And yeah, selling such a thing is pretty sad.

You don't know how in depth it could be, haha. That's the thing, it's just a rumor for now. And we never know, it could be amazingly deep, or it could be garbage.

Re: Official "Mario Maker"?
I don't get the hostility at this idea. Mario is Nintendo's IP. Making an official Mario level editor seems like a good idea to me. Saying "This is just something we can get for free elsewhere" is A) not necessarily true, since we don't know what this thing will be like (if it exists), and B) ignoring the fact that the things we've been using are technically illegal copyright infringement. I can understand Nintendo wanting to find a way to make money when they see people doing something with their IP which isn't bringing them any profit.
Actually, that's probably why they shut SMBX down. They've probably been sitting on this idea for a while and are just now getting ready to make it real. It's all well and good to make fan content, but when you start actually competing with the copyright holder, you can expect them to start throwing their legal weight around.
Have people just lost so much faith in Nintendo that they don't think they can do a decent editor? I admit that the one leaked image looks... troubling. But we know nothing about this, really. It could be something great. I'm skeptical until more information is revealed, but I won't be decrying it just yet.

These... aren't exactly things SMBX invented (or even popularized).darkychao wrote: So far I've noticed 3 things including this, maybe more I forgot

Re: Official "Mario Maker"?
Romhacking isn't really illegal as long as you own a legal copy of the game (which most people do, probably) you can do whatever you want to the game now that you own it, you could throw it at a bus if you wanted, it's your game. as long as you don't do anything expressly illegal, like try to pirate it or sell it, it's fine. (it's also fair use as long as it's non-profit)Ishntknew wrote:I don't get the hostility at this idea. Mario is Nintendo's IP. Making an official Mario level editor seems like a good idea to me. SMBX fell well within the lines of fair use somewhere between it being completely non-profit and probably even loosely parodyIshntknew wrote:Actually, that's probably why they shut SMBX down. Err, SMBX is still there... it's just at a new URL now. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo shuts them down for good now... not to mention other fan games like Zelda Classic...
