Good night, sweet prince.
Fortunately, there are websites that have gathered data to try to replicate the servers and bring back the functionality for emulators and homebrew consoles!

I think the website has been greatly improved with the addition of WARIO.
Although I didn't use it much, it's sad that it's gone.

Pretty hilarious choice for a 404 image.Sturg wrote:I think the website has been greatly improved with the addition of WARIO.

I didn't use it much either, but it's sad that I won't be able to go on occasionally and race in Mario Kart online any more.

I wish I got more friend passes in Pokemon Battle Revolution. The random matchups in that were awesome. Those friend passes were really crazy.

They really ought to make a Pokémon Stadium sort of thing for the WiiU. Maybe even a full-out game, like Colosseum or XD.Leeroh Zenon wrote:I wish I got more friend passes in Pokemon Battle Revolution. The random matchups in that were awesome. Those friend passes were really crazy.

I have heard some things about a new, fan-made WFC that acts a lot like the former, but it's sad to see the official one is gone now.

"Good Riddance", said no one ever.
Train harder, run faster, be stronger, better, evolution never over.
Re: R.I.P. Nintendo WFC
There were two reasons why I wasn't so disappointed by this. One, I think they were running on Gamespy servers to begin with, and the other is that it used the outdated WEP system when most have moved on to other connection types. Still, I heard that some people were trying to keep it around.

Man, I hope that's true, 'cause random matchups in PBR were really fun and remarkably free of hacks, only really dumb kids who threw a bunch of dragons on a team because they looked cool.Jayoshi wrote:I have heard some things about a new, fan-made WFC that acts a lot like the former, but it's sad to see the official one is gone now.

Re: R.I.P. Nintendo WFC
...welp. Now it looks like I'll never be able to experience the tons of wireless stuffs hidden away in Dragon Quest 9 when I eventually get to that game. Not that I could have *anyhow*, given how it works, and the fact that I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere populated mostly by old people. But still.
Really, I think the concept behind that bonus content in DQ9 was an interesting one, but it really doesn't seem like it'd work well literally anywhere other than urban Japan, where gaming is more common, Dragon Quest is a cultural obsession, and populations are more densely packed. It should have been changed a lot for its overseas releases, since you just don't get those kinds of coincidental encounters outside of gaming/anime conventions in the states, and I wouldn't imagine it's much different in Europe.
But then, I really, really, *really* dislike the shoehorning of online/multiplayer/social aspects creeping into traditionally single player RPGs. Especially if the only way to unlock certain aspects of the single player mode *is* to use those social modes... I know a lot of people enjoy multiplayer games, and I'm not actually against *that*, so much as... I got into RPGs precisely *because* I generally have few, if *any*, gamer friends offline, so I enjoyed being able to do everything without having to worry about someone else. Now... well... Meh.
...but, this is now turning into a personal rant, so I'll shut up now.

This is sad. I have fond memories of playing Mario Kart DS and the incredibly laggy Super Smash Bros. Brawl with my friends online. But alas, I suppose that era has been over for some time now anyway.
Farewell, old friend. I'll lay a Fire Flower on your grave.

It's kind of sad... no more Mario Kart Wii, Pokémon trading/battling, Smash Bros., even the Professor Layton puzzles can't be downloaded any more. Still, let's look to the future. Long live Nintendo Network!
