They are fighting elite four. I wonder how much longer it will take them to win the game.

Apparently.
I stopped watching after Red and from what I've heard, Crystal hasn't been nearly as exciting. The appeal wore off for most people it seems.

I mean, there's still ten thousand people watching it right now.
It's not like, dead, or anything. It's definitely still happening.

It's not, though. It's still on the front page of twitch. It's less active, sure, but it's not dead.

Confirming Crystal for Not Dead. Just not the 100k phenomena it was, it's now a 10-20k thing. Although a lot of people follow it on /r/twitchplayspokemon and the like when they're not watching the stream for general updates.
http://twitchplayspokemon.net/ is probably the best consolidated page.

Yeah, I've been casually following it. They've beaten Lance by now and are in Kanto. It really has lost some of its novelty, sad to say.

It’s was pretty obvious that it wasn’t gonna be as popular in its second run. Once a majority of the people saw the chaos, they won’t continue to follow it ‘cause they know what to expect. Most of us that remain choose to stick around ‘cause of the community (despite some peeps gettin’ too vain) and cool lore. I dunno, it’s just fun to see people expounding off of each other’s ideas. Love of stories and whatnot.

Oh yeah, I really got into the interpretations of everything during Red. Really, I think TPP as a whole would have benefited from a break between games. I probably would've gotten hyped if they had waited a month or two between games, but the novelty of the concept had worn out for me with the quick jump into Gen 2.
And really, once the concept itself grows even the slightest bit stale, it becomes more obvious that the stream is actually kind of painful to watch, haha. I felt exhausted just watching some of the crap that went down during Gen 1 and I didn't feel like jumping back into it again so soon after.
But still, I hope the best for the community and I hope it stays strong. TPP was genuinely one of the coolest gaming-related ideas that I've come across in a long time.

I'm pretty sure the reason it died down so much was that the first one was just that. It was a neat little thing for people to do. Even I was keeping up with the thread on NeoGAF and occasionally watching a few minutes on Twitch, and I don't even play Pokémon! They rushed to the second one too quickly to sustain its success, but then again, maybe it will go better with less people in there like it did when it first started up. I'm still amazed that 100k people were able to get Red to the end of his game with all the mistakes they made along the way.

We've been playing (this save) for over half an hour and no Starter yet - but we've been officially going for over an hour! Those soft resets, man.

They got a Shedinja.
Almost entirely useless for their purposes, but that's half the fun.

They started the randomized fire red run last night and the RNG has given the stream Hell. Their starter was a machop with the ability truant (which causes you to skip every other turn, literally the worst ability in the entire game), and every pokemon they've caught has a move that requires skipping a turn to charge/recharge.
oh and the wild pokemon they fought in the first area alone had hyper fang, hyper voice, and hyper beam. Its been an uphill battle.
