If anything, Super Paper Mario should be the Paper Mario game getting represented by a stage.Bwarch wrote:Look at what this lil' shit made
It's beautiful and an amazing idea and it's completely fake. From a parody Sakurai account.

You are VASTLY underestimating the amount of work it would take to create new models/animations/assets etc. for ~50 characters for something that only happens on one stage. And that's assuming that assist trophies, items and attack particle effects remain unchanged, let alone if you want those paperized too.Bwarch wrote:Go big or go home.swirlybomb wrote:But I think it'd be asking an awful lot to do something of that scale for just a single stage.
Also they have to do SOMETHING to make an impression on gamers and keep people buying Smash as much as they have. Not that the work thus far isn't impressive, but to go above and beyond would be a nice gesture and would get people to say "Wow I NEED this Smash even though I have the other three games with the same gameplay."
And since they yanked out cutscenes and therefore downgraded YEAH.
COULD USE SOMETHING PRETTY AMAZING.

I did say "pretty amazing", it is a lot of work, know that thanks.
I wouldn't have been opposed to just the characters being paperized and leaving items and assists and whatnot normal.
Anyway though it's useless debate since it's not going to happen anyway, Sakurai does what he and his team feels like doing regardless of what the fans want.

Would be great if they did that, but the amount of work for just one stage is too much.

If he was giving out the game for free, or starting a whole new IP, then yes, but hijacking an existing franchise to your own specific creative direction just smacks of "I want to do my own thing but don't think it will be successful, so I need to ride the coat-tails of something that already is successful", or just straight-up "I'm a genius and everyone else is an idiot". Having just come off watching the Star Trek films, which is a little unrelated, it's no coincidence that the two most-hated films (1 & 5) are the ones where the creator thought they knew better than every one of the fans.Bwarch wrote:Which is probably for the best all things considered, cutscene and story mode stupidity aside.Bwarch wrote: Sakurai does what he and his team feels like doing regardless of what the fans want.
Re: Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U: WARNING! NEW THREAD APPROACHING!
Looks like a new character is going to be revealed on Monday, via the Smash Bros. website. It's going to be streamed live and it's definitely a newcomer... apparently. Anyway, it's 7:00 PDT and 16:00 CEST.
I'm still hoping for Professor Layton, but... it quite literally could be anyone.

It could be the Prince of All Cosmos or Vibrava. Sure, it would be a little weird, but who wouldn't want to have Sandstorm as a Final Smash? Am I right, or am I right? C'mon, answer me. Correct! Off to Earth now, see you later!skyluigi2 wrote:Looks like a new character is going to be revealed on Monday, via the Smash Bros. website. https://twitter.com/nimbus_land/status/ ... 7337731074Apparently the new character reveal on Monday is most likely to be Shulk from Xenoblade? Xenoblade's director RT'd the Smash Bros news tweet
It WOULD make sense since they made such a big deal about the new X game coming up on the Wii U. Sakurai supporting fellow Nintendo IPs.

Re: Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U: WARNING! NEW THREAD APPROACHING!
My theories on the newcomer, in decreasing order of likelihood:
1) Demise - There's a Skyward Sword stage, so might as well include the final boss, right? Only problem is whether that means Ganondorf will have to make room for him, though...
2) An Inkling - Given how much confidence Nintendo seemed to have in Splatoon, they might end up giving the characters an early-bird cameo.
3) Someone right out of left field - I'm sure Sakurai would have something really devious up his sleeve to deter the overhype and make the stream worth it. [ispoiler]Like John Egbert because of Hussie's one-time connection with Bandai Namco, though that is a pretty long shot.[/ispoiler]
The only thing that I don't like about the announcement is that I'll be busy doing something when the stream begins in my time zone. I'm still looking forward to watching it when I return, though!

Captain Falcon and a bunch of Fire Emblem characters, except Roy (haha).

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
HOLY CRAP
Lucina and Robin? YAY! eat a dick chrom
His final smash isn't marrying the opponent 0/10
Also, the Falcon finally makes his appearance. 'Bout damn time buddy, I was gettin' worried my all time favourite would be missing.

OH MY GOD FIRE EMBLEM CONFIRMED NOT DEAD
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Re: Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U: WARNING! NEW THREAD APPROACHING!
I'm maybe expecting some kind of representation, but a playable fighter from a completely new series (Fire Emblem didn't begin with Roy) feels a tad too much. Not that I'd complain.Joseph Staleknight wrote:An Inkling - Given how much confidence Nintendo seemed to have in Splatoon, they might end up giving the characters an early-bird cameo.
His moveset in Origins/Legends is almost a standard Smash moveset excluding special moves. I guess he'd work fine.Davybot wrote:>A Rayman trophy is in Sm4sh

Re: Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U: WARNING! NEW THREAD APPROACHING!
If a character is revealed as a trophy it's more or less hinted that they aren't actually characters. This is the case with Ridley and Waluigi, as Sakurai himself said with the Waluigi trophy reveal that he would only get a trophy but not make it into battle.
Which makes me a sad panda indeed. I'd love to play as Barbara.

It's very interesting to see four character slots for Fire Emblem I think, with a female costume reveal as well. Robin looks fun to play.
I can't help but wish the two new character slots were for something else tho, since I'm not into Fire Emblem. But EH. I'll just keep on hoping for Splatoon to get a character slot.

Ok so Robin is Magical Olimar with a sword?
At least that's what it feels like.

Re: Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U: WARNING! NEW THREAD APPROACHING!
Rayman is one of my favorite video game characters, and I would LOVE to play as him in smash. But with three iconic 3rd party characters, I knew it wouldn't happen this time.
So why did he get a trophy???
This news sure blindsided me. What is even the point of having him as a trophy?

What is the point of anybody being a trophy? They're just trophies at the end of the day, collectibles of characters that are not playable.
The team wanted a Rayman trophy in the game and by golly gosh they got one.

i guess since its becoming Nintendo And Friends instead of just Nintendo, they can have some of their more minor friends in the more minor parts of the game :)
(i really want a DQ slime to show up in smash run)

Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

This is mostly my opinion on the reveal, but rather than disappointment, I rather felt indifferent about the whole thing.InsaneIntentions1 wrote:Since I'm not a fan of Fire Emblem I found this reveal disappointing
If Mario has taught me anything, it's that most things rely on whether there's something good in a nearby box.

I'm happy with this, but I was pretty much already expecting it so it's not super exciting. Well, I was expecting Chrom and Lucina anyway. Didn't expect Robin. (Actually, I didn't know who Robin was at first, since I named my strategist something different and gave him a different appearance.)
