Well at least you can play Wii games with a Gamecube Controller now. I bought the stupid Wii model that doesn't have GC stuff but now I'll be able to play Tales of Symphonia again.....once I get a Wii U.
Er... you realize it's just like a controller-adapter thing right? It's not going to play Gamecube games (or at least I don't expect it would).

'Tis a surprising revelation, to be sure! I thought for sure they'd rather find an 'ideal' controller setup for, say, the Pro controllers or something instead, but I guess this works too (though I should still give a Pro controller a try at the least).

Also Ike (Radiant Dawn version) was confirmed a week and a half ago but I imagine everyone already knows that by now.

You're pretty slow, this was annonced 4 days ago.

Video where it was annonced : (and was also posted on the nintendo twitter at the same time)

Also this video confirm the people participating in the smash tournaments at E3, along with the commentators, the host, the playable characters and the rules.
I'm happy to see they invited Amsa, along with other pro players.

Yesterday miiverse post introduced a nice new stage.

Time for a revival, because holy crap there was a lot of stuff revealed today.

Image
(Reveal Video: <link>)

First of all, I just want to say that I freaking called it. It looks like character popularity can have an effect on the roster after all! I can't say I knew what to expect regarding her moveset, but the Powers from Kid Icarus: Uprising being most of her moves is okay by me, and just judging from the trailer she looks ridiculously strong and nimble... which means she's probably really light. Reportedly Palutena gets a special niche in the "custom movesets" thing: unlike other characters who just take the specials and tweak them, Palutena can swap out her standard specials for entirely different ones.

Image
(Reveal Video: <link>)

Okay, THIS came out of completely fucking nowhere, but I'm... oddly okay with this. He looks to be another gimmicky joke character who fills out the "retro" aspect of the game - and by that I mean he wields a ton of stuff from other old 8-bit games, not just his own. Not sure what else to say, honestly.

Image

Eh... I guess this is the part of the game that appeals to the hardcore fanboys: playing your own custom-made character against the Nintendo mascots or some shiz. I'm really not sold on playable Miis. It's acceptable in Mario Kart, but Super Smash Bros. is something entirely different. On the plus side though, it was made clear by Sakurai that Mii Fighters are more of a side project, as he stated that they can't be used in any Online modes that aren't "With Friends", so I guess that's acceptable. I don't think I'll be touching these much however other than to see how they work.

Also, if the stinger of Pac-Man's reveal trailer and some words from people during the round table are any indication, Mr. Game & Watch is also confirmed to be returning. I'm definitely not complaining, he's one of my favourites.

Also, a full summary of the round table, courtesy of NintendoEverything:
Pac-Man

- Pac-Man confirmed for the new Super Smash Bros.
- 8-bit moves for the character
- Pac-Man 3DS stage confirmed
- Pac-Man turns into an 8-bit version
- Pac-Man is normally his character from Pac-Man World
- Sakurai wanted to make retro Pac-Man, but the standard is PacLand PacMan
- Pac-Man throws fruit and eats Pac-Dots
- Game & Watch is back
- Pac-Man turns into pizza style after recovery move
- Pac-Man have a triple up bmove.
- Seems to have an attack where he uses the ghosts, throws fruit, and even places a fire hydrant on the ground

Character customization

- Sakurai talks about adjusting fighting style of character
- each character has 12 special variations
- You can select amongst 3 moves for each special attack slot
- Mario has a fireball, a fast fireball, and a fire orb; not usable in For Glory
- Palutena is different; she has unique special attacks; not derivative
- Characters can equip items that increase attack, defense and speed, but there are checks and balances
- Equipment also modifies characters by adjusting their balance
- Make a character quicker but then they are weaker
- You can change clothing if your Mii
- Each fighter type has its own wardrobe to select from
- Mii Fighters cannot be used in With Anyone mode online
- Can be used With Friends Wii U/3DS connectivity
- You can carry customized characters through Wii U and 3DS
- Smash Run is easier to acquire unique items
- Smash Run is designed to help collect items/upgrades. These can be transferred to the Wii U game.

Figures

- FO stands for Figure Player. Users do not control them.
- figurines show up as FP (figure player) and are computer controlled. they can level up to 50. will learn your tendencies. better than level 9 cpus
- Figures will learntheir opponents tactics and adjust over time. They can also use items.
- FP are basically better computer players. can also be used as tag team players in matches
- Sakurai says you don’t have to get every single figure but he will
- Sakurai wants players to think of figures as their partners in battle. Sakurai says you don’t need to collect them all. But he will.

Smash Run

- Sakurai is shifting to discuss smash run. The field is random.
- Sakurai is picking Donkey Kong for Smash Run. he is playing it.
- You pick up powers that you can use in battle via the touch screen.
- There is a jet pack item.
- Warp lets you jump to a different area of the map in smash run
- Smash Run can end with a regular battle, a throwing contest or a running contest

Q&A

- Question: why would you want to release the different versions far apart?
Answer: Biggest reason is debug process. it is a really big game. They need several hundred testers and splitting the release gives them more time to space it out

- Question: why are character transformations removed?
Answer: we want people to focus on single characters more deeply

- Question: any plans for the competitive scene moving forward?
Answer: Sakurai doesn’t work with the competitive events directly. he loves the fans and will keep an eye on it

- Question: balance
Answer: it gets very technical. Sakurai was responsible for the changes from N64 to Melee. He had to use a broader grading system with help from staff when working on Brawl. The process became tricky due to biases in the graders’ playing style. For the new games they have 12 graders, but there could still be balance anomalies. When creating a game, we cannot just appeal to traditional fanbases. We need to reach out to new gamers, and cater to many target users. Sakurai points out some chars are better suited for 2 vs 4 player and with or without items. Sakurai considers smash a party game. - Question: your games have a stylish menu design. What is your philosophy on menu design? Answer: In Famitsu magazine he has written a whole page on that topic. The important items have to be big–words or icon, but easily understood. Sakurai loves menus. he writes a column for Famitsu and wrote all about it already there. He makes the important menu items big. doesn’t need to be words but need to be easily understood.

- Question: A competitive Smash player is trying to challenge Sakurai to see if he can win and help balance the game.
Answer: Sakurai asked “have you ever made a game?”

- Question: when was Greninja chosen to be added?
Answer: All of the characters to consider were on our internal roster from the beginning of development. We had a slot for a new Pokemon reserved, but did not way for X and Y. We decided to use Greninja well before X/Y came out, based on early reference drawings.

- Question: How are they ensuring a good online experience this time?
Answer: With brawl the players could set up everything, with freedom. But we learned that some folks team up or play differently, making it difficult for all to enjoy. There is a reporting system. As far as technical connection issues, we’re still working on it. They use async communication in Mario Kart and other games to improve this, but that doesn’t work well for fighting games. So there is cascading failure, especially for four players. That is why they ask people to have the best communication system available (eg a LAN adapter)

Closing

- Footage shown from the Smash Invitational
- Sakurai enjoyed watching the tourney, was nervous it might crash
- Sakurai is heading back to Japan tomorrow
- Sakurai thanks us for coming and he is out. show over. nothing else revealed tonight
...Whew! I can't contain all this hype.

Also:
- Question: A competitive Smash player is trying to challenge Sakurai to see if he can win and help balance the game.
Answer: Sakurai asked “have you ever made a game?”
I laughed harder than I should've.

HECK YEAH PACMAN

I'm totally fine his design because it's my favorite and 'realistically blue eyed' Pac-Man never sat well with me. Not totally sure what his move-set will be like, with the exception of the usage of various projectiles and such.

Gotta say, I was genuinely surprised that Pac-Man got in. For a minute I actually thought it was a joke, at least until I checked the official site.

So that's pretty much Bandai Namco's character contribution, huh? Well, I guess he does have a pretty funny-looking moveset going for him.

I did not know about Pac Man! Not sure whether I'll end up using him yet or not, but he seems like another interesting retro addition.

Mii's could be kind of interesting with the customizable movesets and all, and I do have one of my own characters that I might be interested in attempting to create. I just hope they actually do good voices for them this time. The ones in Mario Kart sound so unnatural and it's kind of off-putting...

It's probably fair to assume that they also wanted to avoid the whole "you are now fighting Hitler with a gun for an arm" situation, or at least to restrict it to people who know each other.

I'm a little hesitant about the customisation: too much can kill a game since you don't know what to expect from each character anymore (see TF2). However if you can see in advance what people have chosen then that should be fine.

Still want Lucas.

I wonder why the tournament used 2 Wii U consoles. They seemed to switch back and forth a lot between the two, the 2nd wasn't merely a backup console.

Unlikely, although the trailer animation style for her references/matches one of the Kid Icarus animated shorts: specifically, this one.

The funniest part about this is that, since Namco Bandai is helping Nintendo and Sora with this, the former can actually happen

They could just steal his moveset from Digimon Rumble Arena and Digimon Battle Spirit, those two even had Final Smashes in the form of digivolutions

It has, like, a 0.5% chance of happening tho, we're more likely to get a Tekken character if Bamco feels like adding another character

Miis should not talk at all. It's annoying when you have a specific character in mind and the voice clip doesn't match who you're thinking of. If I make an Eggman or Waluigi Mii to go fight and the voice that comes out of their mouths is wrong, it's really distracting.

Good point actually, that would be better. For some reason I was thinking about it like they were already definitely going to do voices for them.
