Sweet! Is it going to be (or is it already) a Poliwrath or a Politoed?

This is far less than how many my younger brother has.
Yup, I'd say a shiny gyarados is still something special, as long as it wasn't the guaranteed one from HG/SS. See, what I really like about shinies is their rarity: for one caught in the wild it represents a thrilling, really lucky encounter. For a shiny pokemon you've bred, it represents the fruits of your labors, hours of hard work put into getting just the pokemon you wanted. That's why I like my natural shinies more, as opposed to the ones I got from the GTS; even if the GTS ones aren't generated/cloned, they don't carry with them the same memories as, say, the time I was level grinding and found a golden Donphan.
yogui wrote:

This pretty guy I found in a friend safari and posted about it previously in this thread. I use it sometimes on battlespot with a quick claw because he has a quiet nature (but 31 speed IV :/).
And a shiny Durant I found in horde battle, but it has pretty bad nature/stats so it stays in my box.

I also have shinies I got from wondertrad/trading but they are probably cloned, plus they don't have my trainer ID so I don't care about them.
Yush! Ghost types like Chandelure are soooo cool. And same here, I have a box of shinies I got from the GTS/Wondertrade/random passerby trades, but they aren't quite as special to me, since I didn't breed/encounter 'em myself. Then I have almost a full box's worth of shinies I've either encountered or bred out myself. Haha, I spend wayyyy too much time on this game. Oh, I have one other shiny, and she was my first: my little bro encountered a shiny banette in the wild (in Pearl, I think), and he gave her to me for my birthday, 'cause he knew Banette was one of my top favorites. Her name is Marie. ^.^

If anyone wants to know my natural shinies, I can list 'em, but be warned: I have a lot.

I found a Rhyhorn on my way to that place where Shaymin is in Platinum. Not sure I'd count that, though, if I'm not mistaken I caught it with one of like 50 billion Master Balls I got illegitimately in Gen 3 and transferred into it.

I need to replay all the games up to Gen 5 legitimately. But at the same time as far as I know GameFreak's bizarre obsession with giving Celebi away literally every time (after the first time) there's been an event for it leaves me with no way to even get a legit-looking Celebi in any game before Y, so it's all a very stupid thing to waste my time trying to do. Might replay Platinum anyway, though, I don't believe I used a Kricketune on my previous run which pretty much invalidates the whole thing.

Hey, as long as you didn't cheat to encounter the thing, I'd say it's legit.

Think I'll list my shinies. Whoo, this is gonna be a long list:

Encounters pre-Gen VI:
Marie - female banette; the aforementioned bday present, encountered by my bro.

Ivory - female donphan; my first shiny encounter, level grinding post-game in HG.

GreenPants - female scrafty; found her while I was trying to fill my dex in W2 for that Shiny Charm.
Encounters in Pokemon Y:
Mandrake - female vileplume; 1st gen VI shiny, & my only one so far to appear before beating a game.

Depth Charge - male qwilfish; chain-fished that sucker.

Grace - female butterfree; found her while walking back to a PC after an Elite 4 run.

Nectar - female bellossom; found her in a friend safari while looking for an ivysaur.

P. T. Barnum - male conkeldurr; 1st shiny encounter after getting the Shiny Charm.

Medusa - female seviper; found her on a berry-collecting spree.

Crayon - male smeargle; I gave him Payday, Water Shuriken, Magnet Bomb, and Heart Stamp.

Stomach Ache - female swalot; found her in a horde while looking for hidden ability plusles.

Nightfire - female chandelure; found in a friend safari while level grinding.

Dust Bunny - male diggersby; found while randomly running through grass.

Dergoyle - female gliscor; found in a horde while I was trying to mug items off random pokemon.

Boss - male dedenne; found in a friend safari while I was leveling up one of my other shinies.

Bubblegum - female ampharos; I was looking for Plus mareeps, and she was the "leader" of a horde.

Pistil - red flower florges; found her while level grinding in a friend safari.

Chomptail - female girafarig; friend safari again (I gotta say, Shiny Charm + Friend Safari's upped shiny odds probably factors heavily into a lot of these).

Mainspring - right now he's a klang, but I'm working on him (hey, I only got him today); friend safari.
Masuda Breeding:
Rosa - While breeding for a Storm Drain maractus with the stats I wanted, she popped out. Unlike a lot of my other projects, I wasn't breeding exclusively for a shiny, but I almost always use foreign parents when I breed.

Gandalf - male mismagius; mom was caught in a Fast Ball in HG.

Cold Oinks - female; I just really wanted a mamoswine with a silly name like this, so I did the only logical thing and bred until I got a shiny one.

Lovely - a female empoleon with Defiant. How rare is that!?

Adonis - male milotic; he didn't have the Cute Charm I wanted him to have, but all in all I think he came out rather well.

Red Terror - female dusclops; has max defenses, and holds an eviolite, thank you very much.

*Edit*: and now I just finished breeding Rocket the male arcanine, as well.
I'm actually rather surprised I have so many, when I think about it. I mean, as far as the shinies I've bred go, those will eventually appear if I employ the Masuda Method and hatch enough eggs (and trust me, I've hatched soooooo many eggs).

But for the random encounters, I guess it's just because I play the game so often that I'm bound to encounter a shiny every now and then. It probably helps that they upped the odds of getting a shiny in Gen VI, and that I got the Shiny Charm on top of that. As well, Friend Safaris have higher odds of shinies appearing (as I said earlier), and that's where a fairly good amount of mine have come from.

So uh, yeah, I'd highly recommend filling your pokedex and making lots of friends.

I caught a shiny Unown because I was busy trying to catch all the forms. I also, apparently, saw a shiny Litwick at some point when I was playing Pokémon Black. I guess I didn't even notice a difference, because I only found out when I was browsing my Pokédex randomly one day and found the Shiny page filled for it.

I also found a shiny Murkrow in a horde while I was playing my friend's copy of X. He fell victim to the Lumiose glitch, though.

Nuuuu, not that stupid Lumiose Glitch! Did he get the patch to fix it, though? I think even after the glitch happens to you, you can get the patch and you'll be working again. Also yeah, Litwick's shiny coloration is pretty subtle. That's why whenever I start any wild battle, I inspect the screen carefully to see if there are any sparkles. There are more than a few pokemon whose shiny palette is barely noticeable from the regular one, and I'm too paranoid about losing a shiny.

What was your first pokemon game? For me, it was playing the postgame of my bro's copy of Pearl. I had loved pokemon since it first came out, but didn't actually start playing the video games until 4th gen. >.>;

Technically, my actual first pokemon game experience is either "Stadium", "Snap", or "Hey You, Pikachu!"... in Japanese.

Leaf Green was my first pokemon game I own, though it was shared with my little brother. My youngest brother had Fire Red as his first pokemon game. My eldest had Pokemon Blue as his first.

My first game was Red. My brother got blue. Then I got Gold and he got Silver.
All the pokemons games I played in order:
Red -> Yellow -> Gold -> Crystal -> Sapphire (on emulator) -> Colloseum -> XD -> Diamond -> HeartGold -> X
I also played a bit of some games on emulator just to try but never finished them, including fire red and platinium. And for HeartGold I bought it but never finished it as I got tired of pokemon. Until HeartGold I didn't played any new pokemon games and skipped all Gen 5 until I decided to start playing pokemon again with Pokemon X.

I never really thought much of Pokemon, until there was a girl I liked that was way into it. I tried Pearl, had alot of fun with it but stopped at the elite four because I didn't grind enough and I didn't care. Later I played Black, and I beat that all the way through because she did too, (yeah I'm pathetic) even though I didn't like it that much.

A year later when all the teenage hormones calmed down I tried Yellow and I had a blast. I beat the elite four and I got all pokeymans excluding porygon and the trade evolutions.

Some time after that I played Emerald. I got really bored during that playthrough but I beat the entire thing anyways.

I like Pokemon, but not much. I can see the appeal, but it doesn't mean much to me. It just seems like a flat, simplified, drawn out rpg with a collecting gimmick, and in later sequels, many mechanics I need nor want to use. The game definitely has its charm, but that charm doesn't work for me in more than one game. I think I can say I don't see the value in any of the games past Gen 2 (plan to play Crystal sometime soon), without that attitude coming from nostalgia glasses.

E: oh yeah I also played Red Resque Team forever ago, before I even knew what a girl was. That one's fantastic. Though I guess Mystery Dungeon is another thing entirely.

But at least, compared to other RPGs, there is a multiplayer mode. (Only one I remember is Dragon Quest IX. Its pretty cool to grind together.)

My first pokemon game was either Blue or Yellow, I can't remember exactly. Oddly enough, I have more nostalgic memories of gens 2 and 3 than I do for gen 1, at least as far as the games are concerned (I was more into the anime back in gen 1 I think). Squirtle's still my favorite starter though 8-) .
