Re: Favorite Video Game Music
Video game music is such a special thing to me. I think that being a composer of video game music would be my all time dream job. I'll admit I haven't read this whole thread yet, but I wanted to put in a couple standout songs that are my favorites. Also, please excuse me if I format something wrong or anything, I'm new and am getting used to this forum still.
Chrono Cross: Absolutely GORGEOUS soundtrack that can still make me well up tears for some tracks.
Prisoners of Fate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd7ggm04GFo
Life https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU5aMM88_64
Magical Dreamers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU5aMM88_64
Final Fantasy: Grew up with the series and still love it, there are many awesome tracks, but I'll list some of my favorites here that are not as popularized (I think).
FF6: Magitek Research Facility https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAf087gh1c4
FF7: Forested Temple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2YJpKUARA4
FF8: Starting Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wThnQM2WDVk
FF9: Geez, the whole soundtrack lol but especially You're Not Alone! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKAoSY5bhSw
I could go on forever with FF but won't...
Megaman: Yeah, another series FULL of awesome music!
MM4: Pharoah Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMrjBaP-olQ
MM5: Gravity Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9sOiROSpNU
MM9: Tornado Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTvjc12new0
M10: Nitro Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doxUxFs ... A&index=23
I'll stop my post here for now, but so much more to share!

Hey, this is a useful thread.
I think I'm going to make a list here and update it as I go, kind of like how Games Beaten thread works but with VGMs.
Long and incomplete list incoming:

God, how have I forgotten about Goof Troop (SNES) for so long that game's sound track had some of the most amazing music in a video game to date and it contains one of my top 3 video game songs:
Lose My Way
cont' playlist.
Fukken Capcom, stop being so amazing.

Sooo I have been playing a bit of Borderlands The Pre-Sequel lately and I have to admit,
this song is one of the best I heard so far.
(Spoilers. Obviously.)
And here is a close Number 2:

I love how you picked the one I've actually listened to out of all the choices from that channel.

Played through Dungeon Explorer in its entirety last week. Had an absolute blast. I've been experiencing all notable PC Engine games at once recently, and it's amazing.
Channel logo got me into:
Unlike Konami's Parodius, it's all original music. It's all very quorky, hilarious, feelgood and intense at once (might wanna skip that long intro).

Re: Favorite Video Game Music
Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom is an overlooked collect-athon platformer game , probably because its a licensed game based on a kid's show. However this game is surprisingly really fun, to the point where I recently re-bought it and fully completed it. It has great level designs, really great comedic dialog, and can even be surprisingly difficult at times without resorting to fake difficulty.
But one of the best things in the game is the music. In most licensed games, the music is usually like a 30 second loop. In this case, you usually get a full 3 minute loop of some well crafted music, like this one that plays on the first stage.

Earthworm Jim 2 was another game with a pretty good sound track but one song kinda sticks out...
Oh man, Lorenz Soil was so frustratingly hard as a kid, and this music was totally enough to keep me coming back. The main instruments have this kinda... "hopeful" quality over this dark, wet background.
Cont' Playlist.

Re: Favorite Video Game Music
Wario Land 4's soundtrack had such a varied set of outstanding music, from fun and jaunty tunes like Toy Block Tower
to calming and emotional pieces like Monsoon Jungle
and god damn if it didn't have the best frikken staff roll theme of anything ever
I know it's pretty much just slightly edited level themes but there's something about it; especially that intro and the Toy Block Tower remix, ahhg, they're just so good.
Cont' FVGM Playlist.
If you were watching any of that on youtube you may have noticed that all of those songs were uploaded just recently over the last few days to my account that's because I uploaded crisp, High Fidelity versions of the all of WL4's songs from midi files and soundfonts extracted from the rom and without the sound filtering the GBA/emulators have, I did this mostly because I wanted my own FVGM playlist to have good sounding sound for my own use. Well... you can listen to it heeeeeeeeeeeeeere.
That image was a bit bigger than expected...

Just dropping in to show off one song, not sure if it's been mentioned yet in this thread but it's kind of long-ish so I don't feel like looking through everything.

I like a lot of video game songs, but I'm really digging a lot of Smash 3DS/U's remixes, especially Magicant's.

Re: Favorite Video Game Music
Oh lawd, where do I even begin with this? There is so much to cover here. Music is, in my opinion, one of the defining characteristics of any game, and always one of my favorite parts. I'd just like to recognize a few tracks and games.
So here we are. Plays have been enacted. Empires have come and gone. The mightiest have passed away and withered, alike the least. Fires have burned, thousandfold. Yet, did not the great wind serenely continue its course? Does not the blackbird still sing its song? Does not the mistletoe still dwell in the oak's crown? Forgotten, what once has been told. Veiled, the words that once so rang out. Shrouded, like the larva in its cocoon. Let him hear it, who will.
