Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
There are lot of 2D fan games trying to emulate what a possible Saturn Sonic would be like (I mean, even official games, Sonic Mania is kinda that), but I would love to see a 3D Saturn style game, Sonic Robo Blast 2 is the closest I can think of. There are some one level prototypes I recall seeing on YouTube, but I don't think they will ever be completed.

Sonic Xtreme would probably not be good all things considered, but I wonder if a good game using that sorta vibe can existNoelle wrote: ↑6 months ago There are lot of 2D fan games trying to emulate what a possible Saturn Sonic would be like (I mean, even official games, Sonic Mania is kinda that), but I would love to see a 3D Saturn style game, Sonic Robo Blast 2 is the closest I can think of. Because Bug! and Sonic Lost World sure ain't it
I will say this, even using a framework, UltraSaturn has a decent chunk of effort in it but I'd still prefer old classic fangames and more unique recent ones over it if for the sake of a more coherent presentation, Time Attacked, Frenzy Adventure (shout out to its eroge bgm), Before and After the Sequel, arguably Time Twisted (I feel like I heard it's a bit divisive, but I may be confusing it with Triple Trouble 16bit)
Still the better 2D Sonic fan games aren't as common as one might think they are, and that's nature of a fangame community. I do hope people try to step out of emulating Mania as much as they do these days and try to find their own feel that speaks to their own teams, the 2000s were weird with its Sprite Rip abuse but they were kinda memorable for that.

Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
Yeah, I don't think Xtreme would work at all, but I think something similar to the Sonic World in Sonic Jam and Sonic R, but with actual platforming level design. With a lot of focus on the physics gameplay and a few speedier sections. Of course, it's easier said than done.

Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
Okay I haven't been here in a bit but I beat Shadow Generations a while back and it genuinely might be the best Sonic thing in a LONG time, probably since OG Colors/Generations or maybe even since Rush Adventure for me personally
The gameplay is a perfect blend of Adventure and Boost styles and the level design is genuinely incredible; it's SO fun to play. I liked the three items to collect per stage instead of five like the red rings in the main campaign, and Shadow's powers actually feel pretty fluid and functional overall. Morph is a bit janky and the game doesn't do a great job teaching about how to TRULY control it but once you get it down it's great (just a steep learning curve). The bosses are also very fun though pretty easy on the whole, even the hard mode versions
Overall I can't believe this was apparently made by the b-team because it's the best Modern "Sonic" has ever been from a gameplay perspective imo

I tend to stay on the side of the artist, but this just feels unbelievable... The man has been doing songs forever, and he interacts with fans a lot, appears in live shows, it just sounds extremely unlikely that he just wouldn't know that some of the songs were used in other games. Reminds me of the Hunnid-P situation, which was proven to be a lie. I don't know, I'm just skeptical about this.

Also, I love the "colour: pink", because despite the clearly red official artworks, his in-game sprite was pinkish.

Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
Finally watched the Sonic 3 movie (it actually only released here yesterday, but you won't make me leave my house on a holiday), I'm glad I managed to watch spoiler-free, I even avoided too many trailers. I enjoyed it a lot, it's what you would expect if you watched the other two movies, fairly lighthearted fun, a bit childish at moments but nothing terrible, neat references to the games, etc. Also, that post-credits scene had so many people screaming, I've never seen that in a movie theater in my life, not even close, it felt like a crowd at a concert. lmao
To be fair, it was a pretty amazing scene, got me excited like a child and it actually makes me legitimately wonder what the hell the 4th movie will even be like.

Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
i just find it slightly funnier that sonic 4: the game(s) will be extra invalidated by sheer accident just by having a game that already fits that role better (mania plus) AND a product with the same name that will inevitably be more popular (the movie)

Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
Sonic 4 is such an anomaly, it's so baffling that they decided to use the title Sonic 4 years after the early games, even though it wasn't at all the first 2D Sonic after 3&K (Pocket Color, the Advance trilogy and the Rush duology all existed before it). Chronologically Sonic Adventure would be Sonic 4, in essence Sonic Mania is Sonic 4 (same gameplay style and visual style, etc), now even the name will be associated with something else, so you will always have to specify it's those two games that have been kinda forgotten for the most part.
Although now that I think about it, long running series tend to have messy titles after a while, probably because some of them just forget certain games, like Mega Man 9 is technically 10, because MM&B is a mainline game even if it was meant to be an alternate telling of MM8 and they do reference in an ending along with MM8 (so canonically both happened?), or how New Super Mario Bros 2 is actually 3, Mario Party for handhelds and consoles follow different naming conventions, Final Fantasy just having each numbered sequel be its own miniseries, so you get numbered sequels for them too, among other things.

Re: Sonic the Threadgehog
It's because it's a cashgrab. It was just gonna be a normal phone game called Sonic the Portable, but Sega named it Sonic 4 to bait older fans despite not giving Dimps any ability to make it worthy of the name
