Metal Sonic was also featured pretty blatantly in pre-release material and the opening cutscene, so I don't know why they were trying to be mysterious or coy at all

Another decent strategy is to just... stop and let Eggman come to you, since he does rush back if you're too far away. Even after Tails says "he's getting away!" and all. The fact there are so many people eager to offer strategies in thread and comments is kinda testament to how hard this ...

the entire wheel segment is just an "okay do i survive by the grace of god alone or do i get hit and lose the emerald key right at the end" segment

Egg Fleet is just meant to be a really cool level. Crazy intense music, cool opening where you run down an airship with cannons and explosions, flying in and out of gunfire, new laser robot, everyone puts on their intense battleship-raiding voices, it's overall just super cool.

Also here's a fun fact I remembered while you were trying to get back to solid ground at one point: flying is only tiring if you move around. Verticality is totally free and not at all taxing on bunny arms

This boss is terrifying but only because there are places where you can't safely attack it without risking a cutscene dropping you in a pit

And also that it's worth noting you don't need to hold forward because your characters run forward automatically, all you need to do is steer
