Re: Achilles of the Might - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

Wow. o_o Good job, raocow. Of course, I hope it was apparent why people normally have so much trouble with Galamoth. I haven't used the Alucard Sword in a very long time and forgot that the teleport move could be chained for practical invulnerability. Huh. Also what the heck, you don't have the Skil...

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

One of the only things I'll say in defense of the rankings (and this has likely been brought up in other contests) is that even though you're seeing giant discrepancies in ordinal positions (1st, 2nd, 40th, 50th, and so on), the actual scores are extremely close to one another until you get down to ...

Re: Echoing of the Quite - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

I found both of the GBA Metroids to be quite linear, honestly, but it's abhorrent how much of Zero Mission is cordoned off from the player before the endgame. I'll take the dragged-out, text-heavy, unskippable cutscenes over that any day. The squid room was really fun, when I played this for the fir...

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

If you're talking about the blocks that are halfway stuck in the dirt all over the place, they're officially sanctioned on the global map16 page provided at the start of the contest. Entrants were given limited space to make their own tiles, so many people used the decorations from that page.

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

The thing that hit raocow in the Fishin' Boo section of Stormwood Manor is a shelless red koopa. I'm not sure why it was invisible, but I suspect it has to do with an incorrect sprite header.

Re: Uppercut of the Sleight - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

Today's English lesson with Min: "then" is a transitional adverb that joins two clauses together, while "than" makes a comparison. Examples: I'm going to the store, then I'm coming home. I have fewer eggs than you. Yes, I have to be that guy. Sorry. I was just thinking yesterday ...

Re: Wandering of the Right - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

I bet he tries to take on the hardest boss without that item that makes him easy Most likely, because I don't think he'll find that item without assistance. But that's because there is literally nothing in the game that hints at how to find that item. I never found it myself until I looked up onlin...

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

So, interesting thing to note: Why the Sand's Hot was made by the same guy who did the Cave of Lost Pride in SMWCP. Can you tell? Not that WtSH isn't leagues better, mind. Oh my god SMWC needs more music. Music keeps getting brought up, so it should be mentioned somewhere that most of these re...

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

They're still really inconsistent though. Even when being careful I still have issues with sliding off them because Mario randomly decided not to jump this time. It is true. The cool thing about my level is that many of the jumps involving them are vertically-oriented, though, as I find it's much e...

Re: Towering of the Wright - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

The Flamberge is one of my favorite weapons in the game. It's a disc one nuke because you can get it before the halfway point of the first castle, it has high attack power with a long reach, and you can offset the slow attack speed with jump canceling. Of course, raocow is having such an easy time a...

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

Oh man, raocow not only really liked my level, but he only died once to it. Now I feel vindicated about my placement all over again... But I digress: when I made that level, I wasn't considering aesthetics (other than that sweet, sweet volcanic remix), but entirely the level design and challen...

No worries. It's going to be positive, believe it or not. It's been a while since my initial reaction to my placement, and I've had a lot of time to think about this beyond the whole "there were only two judges" thing.

Umm...what does him having ranked first in a previous contest have to do with anything, though? Sorry, I shouldn't have deleted what I originally said about this being a strike against favoritism (perceived or otherwise) in these contests, but I left it out for any potential (though unlikely) anger...

Re: The 2014th Smoo Central Vanilla Contest

Yeah...considering YCZ ranked first in one of the previous contests, Lotus Cave Overpass is a true testament to the nonsensical ranking of many of the levels. It's a hard stage, but not as difficult as Inferno Athletic. It's short and to the point to make up for it, too, which is a format I'm thinki...

Re: Possession of the Byte - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

What's with the alternating damage colours, by the way? Do Gram's damage types alternate, or is that just a visual perk I never noticed before? It's a visual perk. When playing the game, the damage Alucard inflicts on enemies will nearly always be orange, but when doing something that causes the ac...

Re: Possession of the Byte - Castlevania SotN (PSP version) Blind

Luckily, SotN and HoD are the only Castlevanias with weird experience scaling. It's much easier to max your level in the others. That probably sounds strange, but the way experience works in SotN is that each enemy has a base EXP they give and this amount gets lowered for every level you are above t...

You say Tolkien and all the kids say Mad-Eye Moody.

I'm really glad things got more dangerous for cowrao. I hate to sound like a sadist, but he was making the game look like a joke there for a while. I mean yeah, SotN is the easiest Castlevania in existence, but come on.

There's a goat familiar? Being intentionally misleading. What were in those other three candles on the left side of the map where he found the Power of Wol...
