Re: Donkey Kong 64 - They're finally here!

I speak from experience. I played it the same way I played any other WiiU VC game: never resetting. I grabbed the Banana for Chunky that's on the spinny crusher thing in the big tall factory room, and then the game shortly crashed, and I realized what was up. Resetting will fix it, but you can't go...

Re: Donkey Kong 64 - They're finally here!

I've actually recently heard this is not the case, that the game was always designed to use the expansion pak, and the fact it patched up the memory leak (sorta) was a happy coincidence. Yeah, I just read an article mentioning it not long after writing that comment. What’s weird is that both the or...

Re: Donkey Kong 64 - They're finally here!

The fastest way to move with DK is by ducking & pressing B to do rolls. Actually, strangely, DK o’ all characters is the fastest in this game. This is 1 o’ those games I loved years ago & @ 1 point would play every year, but have since become less enchanted with its crustiness. Probably ’cau...

Re: Super Raocow World: The Legend Continues

The room with the keys was actually good. Like not even ironically good. seconding this, that could've been absolutely toxic but was implemented well with a real obvious tell (and the lock wasn't on one of the tallest keyramids) 3rd this. I also liked the level with the floors that transformed into...

Re: Super Roo World: The Legend Continues

Given how ruthless you've been towards a lot of the levels in this game, I'm genuinely surprised you are defending this level in particular, out of all of them. * out o' all of them ** out o’ all o’ them I don’t think I’ve been harsher on this hack than anyone else. I praised plenty o’ levels, like...

Re: Super "Mario" World: The Legend Continues

¿Why did FuSoYa apologize for “Pipe World 2” o’ all levels? I actually always loved this level & had ne’er heard that anyone had complained ’bout this level till recently: it’s just a maze, which is a genuine puzzle, rather than obscure nonsense that requires the message box power-up to find, li...

Re: Super Rao World: The Legend Continues

Other than that blind jump before the + block formation & maybe a li’l obscure glitch exploitation necessary to beat the secret exit ( tho the intro revealing the solution mollifies that a bit), I always liked “Pipe World 1”. It feels like it captures the spirit o’ Super Mario Bros. 3 while stil...

Re: Super Hatricia World: The Legend Continues

I don’t know what you guys are talking ’bout: expecting the player to run for like 4 hours inside ice blocks after breaking a single block ’mong millions ’hind a coin you have to collect 1st, rather than turn to ice, which goes directly gainst intuition, is great level design. So is having 2 levels ...

Re: Super Sama World: The Legend Continues

Potato wedges are very good. I just realized that this hack is half generic levels you’d see in 1 o’ the less creative New Super Mario Bros. games, half romhack BS, a bizarre combination that fuels this game’s schizo difficulty. “Ice World 2” was these 2 merged together: a normal, forgettable romp w...

Re: super cat planet cat world: the legend continues!

I’d like to revise my earlier statement: “Crystal Star World” is now the worst-designed level in this hack so far. “Crystal Cavern 1”’s arbitrary elements a’least felt a li’l interesting, while this mixes “puzzles” with that toxic mix o’ being arbitrary & cliché @ the same time, while the rest i...

Re: Super Donkey Kong World: The Legend Continues

“Crystal Cavern 1”’s mix o’ cheap & seemingly arbitrary elements might make it the worst-designed level we’ve seen so far. “Crystal Cavern 2” was refreshingly short. “Vacant Ghost House” & its stupid door “puzzles” suck; but you have to admit, it sucks in the same way legit vanilla SMW ghost...

Re: Super Boon World: The Legend Continues

“Water World 4” & its babysitting is basically every level I made in a rom hack I made ’bout a decade ago. lemmy's land rocked, and i am also highly partial to NC/BOTVGH, if you know what these are you know I was shocked to discover that Lemmy’s Land still exists. Unfortunately, while NC & i...

Re: Super Mega Man World: The Legend Continues

I don’t know what you guys are talking ’bout: needing to run on top o’ the level for like 2 hours just to reach the keyhole is peak level design. Oh man. THAT exit. Where you have to just KNOW that not only does the walk-off-edge-to-leave-level sprite's effects persist through warps, but ALSO that o...

Re: YUMP2 - 28 - Cocoa Cave

People typically consider "requires extreme precision where failure to be precise equals guaranteed instant death" to be Kaizo, so that's why. Hot take: “kaizo” is a word whose definition has been stretched so much beyond its original concept that it’s lost all meaning. If you call a hack...

Re: YUMP2 - 15 - Not Roy

Which absolute madman ported MF Doom - Hoe Cakes for the 'sky world' overworld tho That’s what that song was. I knew I heard it before & it was driving me nuts this whole time trying to remember. This game has a surprisingly good o’erworld. Most hacks, e’en the great 1s, usually just have them ...

Re: COMING UP NEXT

panic in the mushroom kingdom 1&2 are infamous for having a, quote, "Palace of Hentai" as the ultimate reward. it's just a series of hallways with hentai images converted to 4bpp Long ago I once made a rom hack with a bonus level that parodied this called “Really Sexy Porn!!!” or some...

Re: Donkey Kong Land 2 - Grumpy Old Game Boys

Overall, unfortunately, a game about as exciting and impressive as its palette choices. :ehh: Tho I like how they make their palettes look mo’ colorful by not using white & black, 1 thing that bothers me ’bout this game’s palettes are that they use the same palettes for the same level themes. F...

Re: 2 MICE - 5 - the miceorcist

I think “my cold dead heart” looked very cleverly constructed, just a bit too early in the game.

If anything, I have bigger problems with “swallowing an entire ghost pepper ON CAMERA” being 2 unrelated levels sewed into 1.

Re: 2 MICE - 4 - miceal weapon

It’s refreshing to see chocolate graphics — ’specially with graphics that actually feel like they go together & are not from disparate video games. That last level’s gimmick looked like DKC3 jank, tho. In particular, the block & block destroyers hitboxes seem to fall into that classic mistak...
