Boskeopolis Land

If anyone’s e’er wondered why I only seem to exist when raocow plays Wario Land , Donkey Kong Country , or Sonic 3D Blast , it’s ’cause I spend most o’ my time working on this game I’ve been working on for mo’ than 3 years so far. TbOuioWTEdY It’s a platformer, heavily inspired by, well, Wario Land ...

I love this urban level theme & wished they’d used something like that in the SNES games.

Re: Donkey Kong Land - No Country for Old Game Boys

I agree that these games’ graphics look muddy a lot, but these games had some fine Super Game Boy palettes. They seemed to be 1 o’ the few developers to realize the brightest color didn’t have to be pure white & the darkest color didn’t have to be pure black. Rare’s weird with counters for lives...

Re: Peach's Memory - 12 - Hardships

I can empathize with raocow not due to the controls or physics but ’cause o’ that music. In this video, I only had to listen to probably a 20th o’ the amount that raocow had to listen to, & it drove me nuts. I love Super Mario Odyssey, but this song is just awful.

Re: All The S@nics - 3D Blast - Fuzzy And Blue

Not to be a grump, ¿but why did they make the Saturn version o’ Green Grove Zone have muzak as its level music? It’s the 1st stage in the game: it needs to be pumping. This isn’t pumping. They had such musical power & they wasted it on Kenny G. This is almost as bad as when the new versions o’ S...

Re: A Hat in Time - Top Hat

Sunshine stands out in retrospect not only for having a unique and compelling gameplay mechanic that's never been revisited, but also having a grounded, cohesive world, with some stages leaning heavy on the exploratory possibilities that Mario 64's hardware couldn't allow. Yeah, I would agree that ...

Re: A Hat in Time - Top Hat

The rationale ’hind this game always confused me, which is probably why I felt let down by this game ( that & its strikingly low-quality graphics — people like to compare this to GameCube games; but Super Mario Sunshine & Wind Waker look much better than this game ). I always thought this wa...

Re: All The S@nics - 3D Blast - Fuzzy And Blue

For the longest time when I was young, this was the only Sonic game we had, & the only Genesis game we had other than generic baseball game & generic football game, so for the longest time this was what I thought o’ when I thought o’ Sonic. I’m shocked that this came out as late as 1996, whi...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

pp is boring It's not really that that I'm talking about, I can see what you mean, it and Rocket Rush are both anticlimactic, underwhelming levels. It's just that I've seen people in this very thread who got mad at Poisonous Pipeline over never encountering backwards controls before and it's like, ...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

“Konveyor Rope Klash”’s 1 o’ those gimmicks — DKC3 has many, actually — that seems so obvious, it’s surprising they hadn’t done it yet. This level feels like a DKC2 level: its gimmick isn’t as wacky as some o’ DKC3 ’s wackier gimmicks, it gives breaks doing basic platforming, & it hides bonus it...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I think “Tyrant Twin Tussle” makes a solid regular-game level, but a poor example o’ a bonus-world level. “Swoopy Salvo” is yet ’nother “dodge moving obstacles” level, but definitely the best, since you’re not expected to just wait round for a shield to come round, but can manoeuvrer yourself to aim...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

raocow made a comment on yesterday’s video ’bout the “Enguard Kongtroversy” that he wanted to adapt it to sound mo’ like English, like how it seems French speakers do when they take foreign words ( & I know that Spanish does with foreign words ). This is interesting, as this concept doesn’t actu...

¿When was the last time you played this game raocow? I play this game almost yearly & I don’t remember half o’ this bear stuff like the flower thing ( granted, I always procrastinate all the bear stuff till the end & oft don’t bother making it to the end… ). “Ropey Rumpus”, despite having a ...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Now I really want to make a franchise called “Crunch House”. It sounds like a music genre, like a mix o’ house & heavy metal. Strangely, like the other 2 DKC games, the 6th world in this game is the weakest. & in this game, it’s a starker contrast, as “K. Rool Keep” was still solid & “Ch...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I like how zigzaggy “Krevice Kreepers”’s map is & the Koin puzzle, but its main gimmick is too 1-note. If ’twere much shorter & cut out all the repetitions it’d be a much better level. The indication Rare gives for which houses you can drive through in “Tearaway Toboggan” is not much o’ an i...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I think if I’ve learned anything from these videos it’s that raocow cared a lot mo’ ’bout the canon & worldbuilding o’ these games as a kid than I e’er did. I really want to love “Ripsaw Rampage”, as it’s so cool, conceptually. The 1 major flaw is that the stupid camera is locked ( & e’en if...

The janky cliff hit detection was mo’ the boss than Squirt himself. You know, I remember it considered popular consensus that “Mekanos” is better than “Cotton-Top Cove” ( ¿who wouldn’t prefer factory levels to water levels? ), but looking @ the levels we’ve seen now & looking ’head @ tomorrow’s ...

Re: Crash Bandicoot Trilogy - U R Not Red E

E’en when it’s not being ridiculously mean-spirited with invisible platforms, this game’s level design otherwise feels mediocre. The fact that we mostly focus on the BS parts emphasizes to me that the rest isn’t e’en memorable ’nough to notice, which I think is e’en worse. While I was watching the “...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I think “Fish Food Frenzy” might be my favorite level in this game. It’s such a clever gimmick you’d ne’er see in any other platformer. There’s only 2 problems with the level: 1. That banana bonus. Laziest bonus in the game. 2. I forgot to mention this in the last water level, but maybe this is a be...

I love how you beat the 1st 2 worlds just so you can get a patch Funky could easily just buy @ a store. Ellie’s weird, how complicated she is. She has the spit & suck mechanic, the ability to vacuum in barrels from far ’way, but she also runs from rats & can't dive underwater. Squitter is th...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

“Barrel Shield Bust-Up” is a good example o’ a level that makes you stop & go, stop & go, just dodging moving projectiles, as opposed to DKC2 , which usually avoided that kind o’ thing & was usually carefully constructed to allow you to keep constant pace. 1 advantage I think DKC3 has th...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - The Kongtroversial Kongklusion

I think we should've saved “Kongtroversial Kongklusion” for DK64 , since that’s arguably the true conclusion to the Rare series. I’m disappointed that raocow isn’t playing with the “MERRY” cheat on & that nobody else has castigated him for it yet. I think this game is underrated, but I would agr...

Re: Crash Bandicoot Trilogy - U R Not Red E

I’m confused by raocow knowing bouncing ’tween the blocks from GDQ, but not the fact that masks are hitpoints. ¿Did you just happen to drop into the stream as a player bounced ’tween blocks & then decide to leave to avoid spoilers before masks came up? The 1st Crash Bandicoot ’s an interesting a...
