Re: SMBX: Mechdragon777 showcase; What a showoff, amirite?
I mean "My levels are too big and hard" isn't exactly the worst thing, mine tend to be really short and easy, but that might be an SMBX vs SMW kinda thing (At least the level size). This kinda makes me wish I had more than just my contest entries to show my own progression, and I think it'...

Re: VLDC9 - vermiform lookalikes deciduous circuses 9
Those canopy platforms after the midpoint in -UNNAMED- actually have a couple holes in them, they're missing some of the inside corner tiles on slopes so you can fall through randomly. The whole level basically has all these little problems that a bit more testing would've ironed out. Platforms bein...

Re: MaGL 3 results: daddy issues
I've heard of Gaia (mother earth), but this is the first time I've even seen the name Ouranos. Who dat? The Greek god of the sky, Husband to Gaia. Also known as Uranus. He was also her first son or something. Greek mythology is kinda weird. They were parents to the titans. Mario in this plays the r...

its fun. dude's not submitting this to the Louvre it's just for raocow to get a chuckle at. its probably for the best you dont take yourself super seriously when entering contests like this (i've seen what happens when you do, it's cringey as heck and not very fun) But meatface luigi and crying mar...

Re: MaGL 3 results: daddy issues
I really liked this level and thought it would win. The vertical wrap is really cool and works way more smoothly than I would've expected, and the whole level is designed really well around it. Usuaully when people try to make levels with vertical wrap there's a lot of just falling and avoiding proj...

Re: MaGL 3 results: actually it's vvvvvv now
Am I the only one who doesn't think that DIARY OF ANNE FRANK deserved the placement it got? Not trying to knock on lolyoshi or anything, but the level just felt like a romp with simple gimmick and no real atmosphere to it. At that point, what does a romp even mean. I dunno. I always took it to mean...

Re: MaGL 3 results: the most colorful entry
@Tyty I'm not sure if we're on the same page (or if that was even a response to me). I mean that when Pyro was saying how she didn't use the full range, I just found it unusual to see a case of the high range being neglected since normally I see the low range being neglected due to the 5-10 scale. ...

Re: MaGL 3 results: the most colorful entry
You do lose a bit of finesse on the scale if you do the multiplier thing. It'd potentially mean a lot of ties... Which i guess isn't really a bad thing, it would just be an oddity of the system. Maybe if a judge leans one way or another you could curve the scores to more evenly distribute them?... B...

Re: MaGL 3 results: blueluigi's not so crappy after all
I absolutely adored the spritework in today's first level and the second one was my favorite in the whole contest. Despite being certifiably bad at video games I didn't have issues with time or anything and once it clicked that the level was repeating horizontally I was absolutely enamored. It's the...

Re: MaGL 3 results: those poor fish
On a tangentially related note, it seems that there's been a difference in mindset based on which engine is used in a contest, i.e. SMW or SMBX. From observing talkhaus SMW contests like this one, I felt that the way peeps look at the contest - the vey attitude with which SMW engine is treated - is...

re: 7 Golden Statues: I've heard echoes that someone abused a script to spam-download the hack and push it to the top. I don't administrate SMWC anymore so I don't have database access to check, but it is definitely an outlier. It was definitely odd to me that someone managed to beat Brutal Mario, ...

Re: Super Mario Star Road - raocow plays a 3D game (Back from the dead edition)
I don't think I ever found the X marks the spot star myself... But I was much less patient with the game, and by that point I was a bit ticked off from getting stuck in the wall in a few places in the big tree level so I just wanted to rush the next key. - The snowball race in Cool Cool mountain. - ...

Re: Make A Good Level Contest (SMW) 3 - Discussion
I'll drop some feedbacks, why not? Do I dare ask what some of ya thought about my level? Honestly yours was my favorite of all of them, the right length with a really solid gimmick, and I found the second half super interesting with how it scrolled. I had the opposite problem SNN did, where I found ...

Re: [TWO DAYS LEFT] Make A Good Level Contest (SMW) 3 - Discussion
It took me about 3 days to make a small, sorta-average 1-world vanilla SMW hack years ago, but I'm honestly VERY familiar with lunar magic and vanilla is easier than working with resources... not to mention that I have a job now and don't really have the free time I used to. It was over the course o...

Re: Super Mario Star Road - raocow plays a 3D game
I've never tried it personally, mostly because I've received emphatic, though probably overblown, warnings from friends to stay away. Hi it's me, I'm the one who doesn't like it and told FP to stay away. Camera and controls aside, it has a lot of frustrating jumps and little chips in the level desi...

Re: SMWCX - Dream Den
Honestly with powerups placed normally instead of just getting two at the start, that segment looks like it would actually be fun. Other than the weird vine and the difficult albatoss jump, it's all either standard mario stuff, or like the bombs stuff that showed up earlier in the collab.

Re: SMWCX - Phantasm
Honestly when signups first started I wanted to apply and make a level using that sewer tileset for my failed MAGL2 level (I really liked that tileset and still want to use it) but I had to really wrestle with SMBX itself to do so, so I ended up basically not participating in the project because it ...

Re: Make A Good Level Contest (SMW) 3 - Discussion
With absolutely no restrictions I tend to think a bit crazy as to what I can do in SMW, but I don't have the ASM skills to back it up, so I guess I'll try and stay vanilla and not ram the deadline like last time. Now the real question is if I can break away from a line-guide fuzzy and diggin' chuck ...

Re: 8th VLDC: RIP Ningamer
I personally didn't like either of the levels in today's video, but I feel like a lot of people (at least in the youtube comments) are being kinda soft on the first level due to the fact it looks good, and due to the fact the second one went really poorly. It's super cramped and not a lot of the ene...

Re: 8th VLDC: RIP Ningamer
Haha, that bouncing platform caught me off-guard. I checked it since that didn't happen in my testing when I was making it, but it seems to happen consistently in the vldc patched rom. I'm not sure why! It doesn't seem to happen when I test my own patch either. It's funny though. I'm glad it ended u...

Re: SMBX: SMBX Japan; Horikawa lives there!
It seems to me like maybe the designer of today's level might've been testing as luigi. It's a little thing you really don't consider sometimes, and even Nintendo can be at fault for it. Super Mario Advance 2 has the opposite problem where in Valley of Bowser 2 it's way harder to get through the yel...
