Re: A Thousand Miles - 3&K - Miles

Child me was always so confused by Livin in the City, because child me was sure the lyrics said "where everything is green, can't you see", and cities are not known for being green. I have always, always heard it as "where everything is real fantasy," which is honestly better th...

Re: A Thousand Miles - 3&K - Miles

Since we're coming up on Saturn stuff soon, how is "Sonic R" going to be treated when we get to that point? There are only 5 courses, so you'd think it could be a single-shot video. Thing is, each course is designed with Chaos Emeralds where you have to not only find them but still come i...

Re: A Hat in Time - Beanie

People seem to be confused about what the Conductor is supposed to be... I've always interpreted him as being some kind of dinosaur, which is basically just a prehistoric bird if you really think about it.

Re: Peach's Memory - 4 - Curiosity

I'm appreciating how this hack is making use of geometry that Mario can actually navigate and platform on; it stands in stark contrast to some other Mario 64 hacks, where the authors are so focused on making things look "aesthetically pleasing" that it becomes incredibly janky to actually ...

Re: A Hat in Time - More Hats

I'm really enjoying the atmosphere of the Subcon Forest area, especially the music... It's very reminiscent of Chapter 4 from Paper Mario TTYD, which I loved in spite of all the backtracking precisely because of how strong the atmosphere was.

Re: All The SOUPER S@nics - 3&K - Invincible

I'll be honest, Angel Island and Hydrocity are really the only zones where the Act 2 music is substantially different from the Act 1 music. The "different music for each act" feature is handled much better by Advance and Mania, in my opinion.

Re: All The SOUPER S@nics - 3&K - Invincible

I know a lot of people don't like the Ice Cap Act 2 music, and I understand why, but personally I think it's a cool minimalist remix of the song. It's really interesting what sort of effect you can get just by altering when certain instruments play.

Re: Super Mario 63 - The Flash Games of Shaivism

While the levels aren't well-designed by any stretch of the imagination, I'd argue there's still value in the game in terms of how fun it is to play. It's a game where you can just sort of flail around into victory, where getting 100% is more a matter of finding all of the secrets than being super g...

Re: All the S@nics - 3&K - Speed Demon

While it is likely true that Michael Jackson worked on some of the music in Sonic 3, I really dislike how some people overblow that and make it sound like he wrote every song in the game, which simply isn't true. The music for Angel Island was composed by Tomonori Sawada, the music for Hydrocity (at...

Re: Super Mario 63 - A Deficient Composite Flash Game

The Wing Cap in this game is kind of strange at first, but controls a lot better when you realize that it basically works like the cape from Super Mario World, except instead of using left and right to control it, you use up and down. As far as I'm aware, there isn't anywhere it the game where it ac...

Re: Super Mario 63 - A Deficient Composite Flash Game

Yeah, despite all the jank you'd expect from a 2009 Flash fangame (like the mish-mashed graphics, the weird music panning, all of the spelling and grammatical errors) this game is actually pretty fun to play, and I think you can easily see why so many people have fond memories of playing this game a...

Re: Super Mario 63 - The Hit Game for Nintendo 63

Yeah, the music panning is super weird in this game. Someone in the comments suggested that it might be because Mario is the audio source, which seems likely since the panning seems to happen when Mario is on the side of the screen. Really bizarre.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- Pounding the Pavement

The main reason why Donkey Kong Country 2 stands out to me as such a classic game is its incredible sense of atmosphere. Like yes, it's a game where you beat up pirate-themed reptiles as two cartoon monkeys, but at the same time, everything else about the game, from its environments to its music, ha...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- I Passed

I played Toxic Tower yesterday, and I was honestly surprised that it's way easier than its reputation would suggest, compared to levels like Red Hot Ride and Bramble Scramble which are definitely actually hard. I wonder what it is about this level that people had such great trouble with as kids.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- 200 Yen

Watching today's video made me think that it'd be cool to see raocow play Diddy Kong Racing, but then I also thought, has raocow ever played a racing game? Haven't really seen many racing games LPs (or any, for that matter.) I've heard people claim that modern 3D Sonic plays practically like a raci...

The gimmick of most levels in Sonic Chaos is that Sonic is foiling Eggman's plan at a much earlier stage than most, so most levels are only mostly finished challenges with few badniks to challenge Sonic.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- This Guy?

I think Stickerbush Symphony might be one of the most well-known and well-remembered examples of ostinato in a video game, and for good reason. That five-note motif repeats throughout the entire song, never changing except for that little "beebeep" stinger at the end of every fourth measur...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- A Mysterious Attack

The main reason why I don't like Glimmer's Galleon is because for some reason the devs felt the need to blind the player every time they turn around. Without that, the level would be basically fine, since the darkness doesn't really obscure that much of the level.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- One Punch

I also think DKC2's soundtrack is a huge step up from DKC1. I mean, the first game has some good tunes, but DKC2 has a ton of really memorable songs, such as Mining Melancholy, Bayou Boogie, Forest Interlude, Snakey Chantey, Krook's March, and of course, Stickerbush Symphony. David Wise has a real k...

But yeah, can't really come up with many examples of games that use opera. It just really weirds me out, kay? Portal 2 would like a word with you. Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

I had no idea you could actually get stuck like that in the original version of the game. That's a real lack of foresight on the devs' part.
