Re: Vanilla Level Design Contest X - We've passed 100th! Prelude to 'the!

Why does every conversation have to mention jump? What does that have to do with anything? Anyway, I do disagree with the judges that this isn't a "level", cause it is. And it's quite creative. But when we host contests on smwc, it's generally accepted that the "level design" cat...

Re: Vanilla Level Design Contest X - We've hit 100th now! Also raocow liked the new level

I thought this level was quite creative and I probably would have personally ranked it higher myself had I been a judge, but I also have to wholeheartedly agree with Rameau on both points. One, we have to be careful to separate the viewer experience from the playing experience (in both situations). ...

Re: VIP6 - Yamagata

The fact that the hack community has created this expectation of amazing final bosses at the end of hacks is the bane of the modern hacker lol. There's a handful of people that can code at the level of worldpeace/carol. But it also takes a seriously massive amount of time and the undertaking is prob...

Re: VIP6 - Akita

idol takes it to the extreme but plenty of people inside and outside the jump team do it. It's not exclusive to one group of designers (idk why jump team even needs to be mentioned, what do they have to do with anything lol). I guess I should clarify that this style isn't just about whether there's ...

Re: VIP6 - Akita

Maybe the dirt decor? Most Japanese hackers don't really bother trying to "decorate" thier levels outside of palettes and custom backgrounds/foregrounds. In "western" hacking (I put western in quotes because we toss everything non-Japanese in there), it's like 50/50 whether the d...

I'm fairly certain it was a troll/joke entry. Here is a (seemingly) legit hack released by them: https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=87613

Re: Vanilla Level Design Contest X - Oh boy here we go

There was a gap year between vldcx and vldc11, so vldcx actually occured in 2017. SMWC and hacking as a whole has changed in a surprising amount of ways since then, and we've certainly learned some lessons from what happened. In the ruleset, it stated that you should mention in your intro level mess...

Re: 2 MICE - 2 - paramice

I just want to add that from my interactions with both authors, neither strike me as the type to genuinely be anti-accessibility. idol was a large proponent for accessibility in one jump project and I recall SNN being a big fan of how JUMP 1/2 was easier and more accessible than JUMP 1

Re: 2 MICE - 1 - the miceix reloaded

I quite liked this hack. It has a lot of creativity Edit: there has also been a bit of talk about the description on smwc saying "we hate jump team now". This is just classic idol humor and should not be taken seriously, as both idol and SNN are in the jump chat and talk to everyone there ...

Fantastic playing raocow, great job. And thanks for the kind comments everyone. MiracleWater and I are pretty happy with how this lp turned out. I refrained from commenting till now cause I didn't wanna jinx anything lol. But I'm glad you enjoyed it. A couple things that some people may find interes...

Re: request grab-bag

Most people in the hacking community don't really consider the Hyper series to be Kaizo, despite its tremendous difficulty. Hyper 6 is probably the hardest non-Kaizo hack ever made. But a lot of the difficulty comes from extreme length and unfairness, which are usually avoided in Kaizo. The style is...

Re: Super SIG World 38 - So It Goes

[Insert surprised pikachu] I'm sorry my post was harsh, it ended up being more harsh than it sounded in my head. I just wanted to show that there are some interesting things that SIG does. The idea that all 2,000+ of the levels he's made are the exact same is just not a good conclusion to make, as o...

Re: Super SIG World 38 - Surprisingly, Isn't Garbage

I recommend watching this video of SIG world 36, city world. It has some pretty neat ideas, and is also quite challenging and unique.

Judging 38 hacks based on the first 2 worlds of 1 of the hacks isn't cool. Don't do that

Re: Super SIG World 38 - Stealthily Inserting Goals

I greatly respect SIG for living his best life and making 38 vanillaish hacks because he feels like it. And if he wants to make 38 more the exact same way, by all mean, if it makes him happy, I say go for it. I personally enjoy quite a few aspects of this hack. The aesthetics are appealing to me for...

Re: request grab-bag

I know I know, trust me I get it. I don't like 4chan and their culture, so I was skeptical. But as a fan of hacking, I had to play it, and I ended up really enjoying it. A lot of people on SMWC who dislike or don't browse 4chan gave the hack a try and also enjoyed it. But I understand if you want to...

Re: JUMP ϕ(14)/ϕ(13) - Half a jump is still a jump

Personally, I will never get tired of hearing the underwater theme and the cave theme, those are great songs. My favorite is when non-water levels use the water theme (looking at you chains of atrophy). Besides that, most of the songs I find okay, the only song that becomes grating fast is the defau...

Re: JUMP mode(0.5,1/2,2/4,3/6,1,2/1,4/2,6/3) - Spring cleaning? Wonderful. Just wonderful.

*sigh*. It always seems like talking about Mario hacks turns into this, doesn't it. No matter where you go Forums are a place for free discussion and if you didn't like a level in the hack, you should voice your opinion (without dipping into being rude), just as the creators and other players may ha...

Re: JUMP logₑ(√(-1))/((√(-1))*π) - Half a jump is still a jump

So the reason why the pot room leads you to 2 completely random rooms is because that path is actually a bit easier than the lolyoshi bro room path. We figured that rng would be a good exchange for an easier path. You take the bro path, you have a harder time but at least you know what you're doing....

Re: JUMP logₑ(√(-1))/((√(-1))*π) - Half a jump is still a jump

Clarification: worldpeace nearly quit hacking after making the boss. He had lots of fun working on everything else except this because he didn't enjoy the lack of freedom when working with bowser and not with any sort of boss. So the pots room, I'll provide some dev commentary. Iso returned one triu...

Re: JUMP φ/(1+(√5)) - Half a jump is still a jump

This is one of lolyoshi's best works in my opinion, in a way it could be his magnum opus, and represents everything about the way he makes levels. There's also a couple other designers that have these sort of levels (though vastly different than So Sadistic), they represent the epitome of that desig...
