Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Yeah, I kind of feared that level when you started this game. The thing that bothers me the most about it is that the crusher block right in front of the area where the machine is functions as such a huge deterrent, because the past doesn't have any checkpoints and the rest of the level is a super a...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Huh, you would really need to go out of your way if you want to see the Good Future verion of Act 1. They placed the machine at the end of the stage, and I didn't see any Future posts where raocow explored, so they must be all in the first half. Or just get all of the Time Stones and then get the f...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

The Japanese version of Stardust Speedway Bad Future is by far one of the funkiest tracks in this entire game

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Much like a lot of Sonic CD, this level is kind of a mess design-wise, but man, it's super cool aesthetically. I feel like if anything, that's the reason why so many people remember the game so fondly - all of the levels have fantastic artwork and super cool themes as well. There's something incredi...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

That's a problem with all of the (non-past) music in the original version of the game. It was fixed in the 2011 re-release.

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Ahhh, Wacky Workbench, home of the crushers that aren't actually crushers. It's really stupidly designed. Pretty much the only reason I managed to figure out how the crushers work is because I accidentally got smushed by one near the beginning of the level (the one above the Past sign raocow passed ...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

It's cool conceptually, and seeing the zones in different time periods is genuinely very interesting, especially since the game has great music and aesthetics. The problem is that because it's so hard to do, it really makes you only want to do it when there's an actual reward for doing so (ie, getti...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

The Good Future is theoretically easier since it doesn't have any enemies, but it takes so much effort to get there from the past that it really isn't worth it. If you manage to get all of the time stones early in the game, you could go to the future right away at the start of each act in order to b...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Funky Sonic fax! A lot of people don't know this, but when developing this game, Sega actually forced a neural network to play over 1000 hours of Sonic 1 and 2, and then used it to procedurally generate all of the levels in Sonic CD. So next time you find yourself thinking, "Wow, these levels a...

Re: request grab-bag

I am aware that Undertale is very over-LP'd, and probably over-suggested at this point as well, but as far as RPGs go I honestly can't think of one that's better suited to raocow's tastes. It's quirky and has a good sense of humor about itself, it's not super long and doesn't have a ton of boring ex...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Tidal Tempest is honestly one of the few times where I prefer the US soundtrack to the Japanese soundtrack. Gotta love those funky beats. Not a fan of how hard it is to time travel in this level though.

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

Super peel-out is way too fast. I wouldn't be able to see the spikes coming for half a second before slamming into them and dying anyway.

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

For some reason I've always assumed that the flowers represented the spirits of the animals Robotnik turned into machines, but in hindsight that's probably not what they were going for.

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

There's actually a few objects in the game that preserve Sonic's momentum while keeping him in place, which can be used for easy time travel. The spinny platforms we saw in Palmtree Panic Act 2 are an example of this- if you build up enough speed for the sparkle trail to appear and then land on one ...

Re: All The S@nics - CD - ...The Problem's Chronic!

If I may make a small correction, the signposts don't go away on a timer, but rather if you start going fast enough for the sparkle trail to appear behind Sonic for a few seconds, and then slow down or stop moving before you actually time travel. If you've touched a "past" sign and don't w...

Re: All The S@nics - 2 - I Could Go Super Sonic...

Honestly the music for both Sky Chase and Wing Fortress sounds like the composer either didn't know or forgot that this was the endgame. It's just way too slow-paced for what's supposed to be happening in the story. Which is a shame because the rest of the game's music is quite good.

Re: All The S@nics - 2 - I Could Go Super Sonic...

I never got to Oil Ocean Zone as a kid, but I knew about it because of the internet, and it always seemed incredibly threatening to me. I guess I didn't realize that the oil just acts like quicksand that you can easily jump out of. From my perspective it was a bunch of small platforms over insta-dea...

I will never forget Mystic Cave Zone because the second act has the pit. If you've played the game you probably know the one I'm talking about. I died so many times because of that monstrosity.

Re: All The S@nics - 2 - I Could Go Super Sonic...

I remember this level very well because it's the farthest I ever got in Sonic 2 as a kid, so everything after it was a great mystery to me. I think it has a lot more personality than Starlight Zone, by virtue of being both a lava level and a grassy mountain level, which seemed like a wild combinatio...

Re: All The S@nics - 2 - I Could Go Super Sonic...

I'm pretty sure Casino Night Zone actually has the fewest total checkpoints out of any level in the game (excluding Sky Chase), with each level only having two. Which is funny when you consider how easy it is to get fifty rings here! The music in this level is really fantastic. While the structure i...

Re: All The S@nics - 2 - I Could Go Super Sonic...

So how many save posts did rao skip today? I saw two. There are three total breadpoints in Act 1 and five in Act 2. The first one is actually fairly obscure because you have to take the lower route at the start of the level, continue until you come across two moving blocks, drop down, and then go b...

Re: All The S@nics - 2 - I Could Go Super Sonic...

Honestly, I greatly prefer the way Sonic 1 handled it. Putting the special ring at the end of the level means you can just run through it while grabbing as many rings as you can, without worrying about missing checkpoints. Sonic 2 requires you to be a lot more methodical about it, while simultaneous...
