Re: VIP6 - Gifu

I tried looking at the acceleration in RAM, and it seems you reach max speed in 2/3 of the normal time to max speed when upside time (when just holding forward). That's shockingly different (at least to me--I suppose with all the jumps small runs in the vertical section it was hard to tell). It is a...

Re: VIP6 - Gifu

As far as i could tell the physics were fine, except you have less margin for error on corners:
points at which the next forward movement will lead to a fall
points at which the next forward movement will lead to a fall

Re: VIP6 - Kanagawa

Does anyone have a list of all the hard-save locations in the hack? I figured I'd at least attempt to play along with VIP6 on my SD2SNES, but not having an easy way to save between levels has become kind of a problem. I know you can get a save prompt by beating the w2 ghost house again (some of the...

Re: Vanilla Level Design Contest X - We've hit 100th now! Also raocow liked the new level

So, raocow was frightened by an entry that performed the elementary courtesy of giving the player extra chances. Surely we could all lose lives stupidly, or even sensibly, in a quite easy level. The idea that you have to make the level so bland that no one is going to risk spending more than five li...

Re: VIP6 - Fukushima

This hack does have a custom, interesting, difficult boss, if one not as fancy as tanasinn or julius; and it's not clear that there would ever have been an extra final boss, since the person responsible for those two seems to have moved on after VIP 5. Rather than being postponed for a boss that was...

Re: VIP6 - Aomori

it,s not really much of a story, honestly from what I understand - some people in the team believe they should have a sort of level 'standard' to be accepted - some other people believe that goes against the ethos of what 'vip and wall mix' represent - implosion - nobody works on the game anymore i...

I was expecting (as an ironic twist) the complete opposite of 2mice to be the only other hack on the 'up-coming' list made by two Canadians (Super Demo World).

Re: 2 MICE - 6 - adolescence of mice

The detonator is probably based on the key. Everyone knows that you cannot jump while standing on two keys, although you can jump while standing on one key, or three keys, or, indeed, any number of keys other than two. This is because the key, instead of setting the value of the RAM Address which ho...

Re: Super SIG World 38 - Shiny Indicators of Greed

There are some things in this hack that, although they are familiar from previous instalments of the SIG series, there is no effort made to explain when explanation would seem to be warranted. Whether SIG thought that SIG players should know the score by episode 38 or whether it was that he did not,...

Re: Super SIG World 38 - Surprisingly, Isn't Garbage

I can't see why we need to shit on this guy for having a hobby. Let's just sit back and enjoy raocow saying the same things he has said over the course of thousands of surpassingly mediocre let's play episodes, the content of much of which must be virtually indistinguishable to a casual viewer. Spea...

Re: VIP 5 2019 - Like mammoth-sized lungs to a trumpeter playing Moto Perpetuo

Since smw itself always uses capitals, I've always thought small letters in level names looked hacky. Those crazy Japanese kids with their fuck-off big letters were the only ones doing it right.

Re: JUMP ((d/dx)(√x))*√x - Half a jump is still a jump

Like some others, I was inspired by the VIP series in making my level. It was harking back to those VIP levels that take some peculiar cultural reference and try to make an smw level out of it (see e.g THE GREED from VIP5 (apologies to maks for using the old translation)). Yesterday we saw raocow bo...

New Bitmap Image.png Let this nonsense serve as a warning to those who seek to explicate the intentions of others. Re: SUPER - Mario and Detteiu's Trap Tower

I loved this level. I thought the switch palace yesterday was far worse. While it had one-tile-man stuff and half-tile bounces on turn blocks, this is beatable if you are only smart. I was not smart and was still able to beat it (I never understood luring the disco under at the end but kept a mushro...

Re: SUPER - Mario and Detteiu's Trap Tower

I am fairly sure that the kicking koopa was inconsistent in itself and was not able to be influenced by player actions. The interesting thing is that no matter if he falls off the ledge with the shell or not, you can still make progress, you just have to do different things. Therefore that part is a...

[009] Manky Bridge 2

I decided to restart my level entirely as there were many concerns voiced about the level's difficulty (or lack of it), and the general absence of D (for Depraved) rated levels. What better than to remake a beloved favourite? I hope to 'push the envelope' with this one in terms of length and puzzle ...

Re: SUPER - Mario and Detteiu's Trap Tower

I meant to explain why there would be no corners on the custom block by saying the japanese man used a japanese tool when btsd or whatever else was available. (It is possible he used btsd but made the corners empty on purpose--now that's what I call sadism.) There is no intention of 'defence' (unles...
