Be careful, raocow, if you don't keep an eye on those trees you'll never know when they're going to attack

Re: Hyper Light Drifter - please don't tell me to do the maths

I beat the game on both difficulties using a mouse and keyboard, and I never really encountered a problem with them.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter - please don't tell me to do the maths

I honestly can't imagine playing this game on a controller. HLD is a game where you'll need fast reflexes if you want to shoot things before they hit you, and having to take the time to aim with a joystick seems like it would be really difficult to do.

Re: MaGL 3 results: daddy issues

While I do like the music in the sky section on its own, I feel like that song was way too upbeat for the level, which kinda detracted from the atmosphere. Of the three sections, I liked the first part the best; the combination of the background, the music, and the graphics really set a nice tone fo...

Re: Hyper Light Drifter - please don't tell me to do the maths

Worth noting that to find one of the northern monoliths you'll have to re-explore one of the secret pathways you've already discovered. It's probably one of the most out of the way secrets in the game; without consulting a guide I probably wouldn't have known it was there.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter - please don't tell me to do the maths

So yeah, each branch of the game has eight modules in it; four of these are marked on your map, while the other four are secret and must be sought out on your own. You only need to collect four modules from each area to complete the game, but each area has a door that requires all eight modules to o...

Re: Hyper Light Drifter - let's be nice to pixels

The game's nonlinear, so there isn't really a "first boss". IIRC none of the areas change based on which order you play them in, although the southern area can only be accessed after you've cleared the other three, so naturally it's the most difficult of the four directions.

Re: Hyper Light Drifter - let's be nice to pixels

I'm curious about the two dash upgrades too, I only got the one in the dojo, considering it's the same button combo do they... combine or something? It's not the same combo. One of them is dash-then-sword, the other is sword-then-dash. Sword-dash makes you do a dash that chains between nearby enemi...

Re: MaGL 3 results: elite koopa family reunion

The problem with a level that long is that it means it's inevitably going to lose any sort of focus it had in the beginning. It sort of felt like it just kept piling unrelated obstacles onto the level without doing a whole lot of interesting things with them.

How are you supposed to tell where you are if you can't even see the sprite of the character you're controlling?

Re: MaGL 3 results: dinosaur omelette

I liked the idea of the first section a lot. Second section felt pretty barren and repetitive.

I feel like more attention could have been payed to the aesthetics as well, because this level was not very pretty to look at for over ten minutes.

Re: MaGL 3 results: playing (9) on the 9th

My main problem with SPYIKES! is that the first half of the level feels pretty detached from the second half. I feel like the level maker should have picked one gimmick and focused on that instead of putting two unrelated gimmicks together in different halves of the same level.

Re: Super Mario Star Road - raocow plays a 3D game (Back from the dead edition)

Yeah, I think it's pretty simple to see the image and think, "oh, the star's somewhere in-between orange coral." All you need to do is explore the level a bit and you'll find it.

I do think the floatiness of the angel girl could stand to be toned down a bit? Or at least the bounciness when you hit a wall.

That's not very nice. :(

Also, I really like the music in the bonus area. It's strangely chill.

Sprite buoyancy is probably my favorite thing in SMW, and it was cool seeing this level use it in combination with the mines.

Re: JUMP - Don't be hasty, this must be talkhaus' Mario Party.

I love how the secret exits in worldpeace's levels always sort of expand upon the core concept of the level in an interesting way, instead of just making you redo the whole level again but with a P-switch or something.

Minor nitpick, but Chains of Atrophy really could've used a song other than the default SMW underwater theme.

Re: JUMP - It's a talkhaus collab without demo in it.

I really liked the level with the moving pipes. They're a super neat mechanic that I think gets pretty underutilized, even in vanilla hacks.

Re: Mario Enjoys Spinning - Mario Gives Up 3 (SMW)

Wow, this hack is... a little all over the place? That ghost house level seemed kind of pointless, other than to serve as a reference to what was likely the flavor of the month at the time, but isn't really that relevant anymore.

I'd say that anything a player wouldn't know at that point the game on their own would count as a spoiler.

Saying "things will get really depressing" doesn't strike me as particularly vague either. :/
