Re: Level Contest Japan - cave story
I remembered the 2nd one being longer okay? :p That said, I kinda like the 2nd one... as soon as it actually starts having ideas. Sadly, the level ends not long after it actually introduces these ideas (conveyor switching). I feel like the super meat boy music did a great deal in the level's impress...

Re: Level Contest Japan - cave story
Neat, how'd you make the screen not scroll in the cave map? I guess it's possible now to make the map not scroll after certain points? Effectively making map edges? Cool. Though I wonder how that can break with the 'walk anywhere' cheat? I set the camera's x and y coordinates to a fixed value if th...

It's actually my personal least favourite. I find the gimmick to be incredibly jarring.

Re: Level Contest Japan - freedom
I'm kinda curious how long it would have taken raocow to figure that jump out if he'd never managed to get on top of the pipe like that, lol. Also what was the overworld music? I could only make it out just a little bit but it reminded me of some of the music from Mischief Makers. https://www.youtu...

Re: request grab-bag
The question is whether or not raocow can make it entertaining/interesting to watch. If he couldn't do it with minimal maximal, can he do it with this? Keep in mind S. Mario and Wings of Vi aren't fondly remembered by everyone. Agreed. I don't think the editing style in minmax was very pleasant to ...

Re: Level Contest Japan - freedom
If anyone else is bothered by the super inflated death counter just subtract 3142 from the death counter to see what it would be not including the deaths in (minimal) (Maximal). Is there a way raocow could just forcibly modify the death counter and set it back to what it would be without mM? Not on...

Re: Level Contest Japan - spike zone hell
I know some would probably disagree with this opinion, but I would've opted to not reveal the "author's note" in the Lua file. It's not like it was in the level itself, so players wouldn't have been likely to see it unless they went in to look at the code in curiosity or (as the comment s...

Re: Level Contest Japan - spike zone hell
My favorite part is how somehow the boss fucked up the life counter so every death against her counted as two deaths The death counter integration was added by Enjl, and min/max's code is...uhh........ I'm gonna guess the boss somehow runs the custom insta-respawn death code Enjl hooked into, but a...

Re: Level Contest Japan - spike zone hell
I actually liked it a lot as it had plenty of checkpoints and wasn't too demanding. What do you mean it's not too demanding? Some of those jumps are pixel precise due to the way SMBX handles hitboxes and the fact that the level designer seems to have not erred on the side of caution/worked around S...

Re: Level Contest Japan - spike zone hell
I was digging through the level folder earlier and found a little comment in a file called __ForPlayers.lua Here it is: --[[ I suspect that somehow some players won't be able to clear this level that of which I am quite consistent at. This level was designed for normal- skilled players with a non-gr...

Re: SMBX Level Contest Japan (LCJ) - Compilation Episode - Release! (v1.5)
Also: My exits/star count for individual levels got nuked twice by now. Does this have an effect on anything? Actual star count is still fine. Huh what? How? Once when updating the game, a second time due to power loss during playing. Isolated Icy Islands is at 0/1 exits, 0/3 stars despite everythi...

Re: Level Contest Japan - PLARNT
Wow, that last level could have made it's own game. Though looking at the lengths of the 1st and 2nd halves, they should have each been their own level (never thought I would say that). Especially in a non-contest setting. It just seemed like the 1st half was winding down to a close, when you find ...

Re: Level Contest Japan - still putting off veggie pile
I cannot rule out the possibility that I'm at fault for the arrows breaking, but I really have no idea what action might've screwed things up, especially since I don't remember playing any non-broken version. My edits to the code were nothing but attempts to fix the intro that refuses to play, which...
