Re: SMBX vs Lunar Magic: Which is better?

I have a question for people in the know about SMBX - is the engine built in a way that makes it difficult for some reason to freeze the world when Mario gets hit or gets a power up? For some reason when either of those things happen, Mario freezes but everything else keeps on moving. And also Mari...

Re: SMBX vs Lunar Magic: Which is better?

There's a work-in-progress SMW camera movement API , but so far I've heard it doesn't work as intended (not familiar with SMW's camera, so can't comment on that). However, there has been discussion for a better camera movement API which will not only provide accurate movement but also shrink the sc...

Re: SMBX vs Lunar Magic: Which is better?

Wohlstand is working on remaking SMBX and fixing the bad decisions for the PGE Engine. SMBX2 will likely switch over to it sometime after the engine is finished, though that's not happening anytime soon. How far along is that? Wohlstand used to post updates here but that hasn't happened in at least...

Re: SMBX vs Lunar Magic: Which is better?

I like SMBX and look forward to continued expansions and improvements but SMW is like way less janky ultimately. Obviously you can create jank in it but the baseline engine in terms of physics and shit is way less janky. What I would really be down for is a totally rebuilt from-the-ground-up platfo...

Re: Level Contest Japan - platforming horses

ngl I kinda hoped raocow would forget about 38A-World so that we could end on the high note >_> Why? Are all the 38-A levels terrible? I'll leave that judgement to yourself. In my opinion, the last level in 38A-world is almost unplayable thanks to the way its gimmick is used. Also I just checked an...

Re: Level Contest Japan - platforming horses

So, a warning: The fourth level is a garbage fire that breaks completely under the slightest stress, so: DON'T ENTER ANY PIPES. No, shadowstar won't help. It doesn't work, cheats seem to be disabled in this version of the engine. Is that level Ying Yang ? Because I'm highly afraid of that level's a...

Re: Level Contest Japan - platforming horses

Oh man! 7NameSam's Yoshi level is so interesting. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it used much LunaLua at all, if any. The level most certainly used SMBX2 elements, though I'm uncertain how much lua was written for the level itself. like 80 lines. -multipoints setup -parallax setup -setting powe...

Re: Level Contest Japan - platforming currency

I also think it would have benefitted from an engine where you don't start off inching along then suddenly fly forward at the speed of light within a second. SMBX has terrible momentum imo Not gonna mention which engine I think this level would have worked better in, but it's one where you have muc...

Re: Level Contest Japan - platforming currency

I feel like Bullet Heaven would've benefited from being like...half (or maybe 3/4) of the length it actually was, considering the difficulty of some of those jumps with the autoscrolling. I also think it would have benefitted from an engine where you don't start off inching along then suddenly fly ...
