Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Oh yeah, since I'm currently building the Shield dungeon, I decided to check on what each Shield blocks. Here's what I've found: -The following weapons can be blocked: Rock, Arrow (Spear), Boomerang, Fireball, Sword Beam, Magic, Fire, "Script Weapon", and Boss Fireball. Explosions are impo...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

As far as I can tell, the incentive to explore was based on a Z1 model: find money, buy things. I don't think the heart limit should go higher than 20, if it's changed at all, because it becomes inflation at that point, and we'd have to start adjusting enemy damage. 20 hearts minus 11 is 9 heart co...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Starting the game with 3 makes sense because every Zelda game has you start with 3 (except Skyward Sword) and because Sheath has 3 hearts in ASMBXT. It also works with Shemp's heart container budget from page 21 (11 from dungeons, 8 heart pieces in minidungeons, 3 heart containers for legendary ene...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

I'll get to testing that tomorrow (currently very late for me), but I have a question for all: Exactly how many hearts should we be expecting for each dungeon, again? I think maybe we should go ahead and decide that, along with how many pieces of heart will become available between which dungeons an...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

"Sand Castle". To do that, you'd have to move a lot of screens to keep the progression the same or similar, which is the biggest flaw in my opinion. We need to have a discussion about A2XT in general, about sprites and what they did with Sheath therein. I think I spotted a different sandc...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

I like the bouncing. And covering the arena with damage combos makes sense as a final gambit, I think. I just need to thread the needle between an attack that's no threat and something impossible to dodge. The fight will definitely need rebalancing if the player isn't expected to have any projectil...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Huh. Now the doubled size has made it almost impossible to dodge at this speed, not helped by the rocks actually exploding (which increases the range they can deal damage at). Oh, and I just realized: you're testing this with the wrong equipment. For level 3, you should be testing with 5 hearts, woo...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

I made a rough draft of the Leever boss for level 3. It's in the level 3 Dropbox folder. Admittedly I haven't actually played the dungeon at all, but that's why all the combo changes that happen during the fight are designated as constants at the top of the script file. I gave it a test, but I have...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Is anyone actually using wisps? There's jinxers on overworld 1 near the Destroyer's Shrine unless someone removed them. I see where you're coming from though that a whisp ring is excessive for barely any jinxers. Probably we should have more jinxers or cut the whisp ring. Personally I think jinxers...

Re: AZCT - Luna's chariot (Shield Dungeon Topic)

I'd like to use the atxs-style maps for every dungeon for consistency's sake, and will happily make one up for people in a style like Shoe's Zone (meaning pixel art in the parts of the frame that aren't taken up by the map itself) but you're welcome to use your own map if you'd rather. Haven't play...

Re: AZCT - Luna's chariot (Shield Dungeon Topic)

Four way movement, ewwww. Anyway. http://i.imgur.com/SSURezH.png NES dungeon type doesn't work well with freeform style rooms. Either the DMap or every individual screen that doesn't use the traditional door structure needs to be made interior type. EDIT: I just figured out that turning on the ques...

Re: AZCT - Luna's chariot (Shield Dungeon Topic)

So, I've taken over this dungeon since Aposke is banned now, and I currently have some form of something in the dropbox that could perhaps possibly be tested? https://www.dropbox.com/s/nq2g4i1in4kdg9e/shields.qst?dl=0 Notes: -Dungeon has no music since Aposke never uploaded it to the dropbox, and th...

Re: Wandering Around Again (New Wand Subdungeon?)

That I knew, I'm just wondering if: A. We can do Side Warp rather than standard door warp to the next room when they're fake walls. B. (This I didn't mention earlier) We can use different tiles than the standard wall. I was thinking of using "locked" doors (these would lead to one of two ...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

I already did that with the text file in the flipper dungeon subfolder, and I agree that change log files for each thing would be helpful. Apparently I finished that on June 21! Ah, thank you very much for doing that, then! On that note, I suppose I should go ahead and upload what I have done for t...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Oh yes, before I forget, I have a request to make: Whenever we update things in the dropbox, I'd like there to be a companion changelog for each item detailing what's changed in each update. I know I'd like to know what the heck's been changed every time I see a file updated in the dropbox, so it'd ...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Well, if you don't remember it at all, we have a problem! Clearly it needs more work to make it memorable. I don't think I explained it very well, looking back on it. I should go back and re-work the text. The concept in-story was that the jewelry shop (I think - or one of the stores anyway) was in...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Just mentioning that if you do need to scrap the potion note system from Overworld 1, I'm fine with that. I should have consulted the rest of you before using it anyway given that we can only have one note. I...don't even recall what this is... But regardless, with ZScript, we can make it so we can...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

So I'm looking at my plans for Etwas Ruins, and I'm thinking I should just work the layout and ask someone else to do the enemy placements. My notes indicate using a Patra/Gohma combination for the boss fight, is something like that workable? Patra+Gohma? Not sure. If the Gohma is one that doesn't ...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

So that's a no to a dispenser? There's a very good possibility that AZCT will be done by or around the time-frame of NCFC, and it's certainly my intention as well. But is that how we want to distribute? Well, I'm not sure we should have the player go back to the dungeon just to get a replacement sh...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

I think the original idea involved a sort of shield dispenser in the dungeon itself (probably first screen) that would output the player's most recent shield if they didn't have it in their inventory anymore. That's as easy as a global variable and an item drop script in that room. Thematically, it...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

Although that leaves another question with the shop idea: what if the player buys the second shield first and then visits the dungeon? I would think a shop for the shield after the room it was in might be a good idea, although I don't know if there is a workaround, such as a flag that after getting...

Re: AZCT: A Zelda Classic Thing - Basic Planning Thread

...I just realized something. The level 2 shield is able to be eaten by like-likes.

How will we deal with this? Will we make it so the shields can't be eaten, or unlock a shop after you get the shield?
