Re: MaGL X2 Discussion. No raocows! NOT the sign up thread!

Question! The SMBX editor in the MAGLX2 devkit is for whatever reason being persistently flagged as a "potential" virus by Avast and I can't extract it, but everything else in the folder extracts fine. Can I copy over the SMBX exe from the other downloads into that (because for whatever re...

Re: MaGL X2 Discussion. No raocows! NOT the sign up thread!

I'm not going to create a system of "10 points for aesthetic broken down into the following 10 1-point segments." I want more freedom than that in the judgements. However, because people were a little mixed on their judgements last time around (though this didn't matter because, as long a...

What do you mean "but you haven't touched the SMBX editor much before"

I don't care.

"What Blue Pipe" is hands down one of my favorite levels so far. It's very pleasing aesthetically, I really like that graphical style, and it looks like it'd be fun enough, and... what blue pipe? I don't know either, because it was grey! That's the joke, isn't it? What blue pipe? There is...

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

This stage really makes me want a proper Mega Man open-ended metroidvania. Not like the kinda half-metroidvania-but-actually-incredibly-linear experience that was ZX and ZXA (not that they were bad) but a game that drops the 'pick stages' in favour of a big open ended network where you find all the ...

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

Edit: The advice I read way back when I first heard of this hack was to fight Ring Man first. Not hard to see why, since his weapon is so crazy useful both for getting items and defeating enemies. I think he also takes double buster damage? I was always suggested to get Diveman's weapon first, beca...

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

Things you missed even though you read it today: You can also do the classic Bright Man Time Stop by firing the weapon upwards. Also: The weapon name is just "Toad". More specifically, it's a black dot followed by Toad - the old Final Fantasy style method of indicating a Black Magic spell....

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

That MM GB HUD (too many acronyms) is kinda neat, and at the very least didn't overstay it's welcome. I think PureSabe only used it because Bright Man's gimmick (the limited visibility) was messing with the normal HUD somehow. That's correct. The NES naturally draws things in lines left to right. T...

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

oh I'm a day behind whoops psst raocow: you could have used skull wheel to speed you up during the ringman not-quick-laser segments. Also the lava segments. also used balloon to help with some. But I'm still glad you're learning at least a little. for those asking about eddie: Inhaling him gets you ...

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

Also, I'm going to join in and advocate the use of Rush Cannon against bosses, because it actually makes them more interesting. Yup. You've probably realised by now this game is pretty silly and also has its moments of brilliance. The game hands you a one-hit-kill weapon with the Rush Cannon. Do yo...

Re: Stoneman IV minus Infinity

I love that you noticed the little technical things: Yes, there have never been horizontal + vertical scrolling simultaneously, slopes, or 'one sided' platforms in any of the NES Mega Man games. And yes. I know people regularly tell you "hey raocow, you should use your powerups!" but in th...

So uh, am I the only one crazy enough to be playing through this game on Distorted? For the record, I'm up to the Black Rock Fortress as I write this and haven't been watching raocow's videos of what's head or anything, just watching them a distance after I've already cleared an area, so I'm going i...

Re: CRAZ'D!: It's like AUS with less birds

Just reminding raocow that the green health cross item that he was confused about is a permanent health upgrade. Or, well, functionality, it means you take less damage from attacks.
Also that he has come so many times within like an inch of discovering another one right near the start of the game

Re: CRAZ'D!: It's like AUS with less birds

Oh man this game. There's quite a lot of... yeah. A lot of stuff. That I can't talk about! Including some extra random stuff. Also rage-inducing bosses that are occasionally really :/ because they don't always work right. But I can say that I will be disappointed if a very specific random text does ...

Re: An SMWCentral Production: A game about some eggs

I do feel like weighing in on something: Each of the levels involved in the cave of the elements are, separately, actually pretty well done. For using a minimum of ASM, I did notice that they kept a great variety in the actual obstacles faced throughout and managed to be pretty consistantly shifting...

Re: Well, this thread isn't what I expected to do either!

If you haven't played it yet Eversion would be awesome. http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html In my oppinion a NES game for once would be cool to see too, like for example Kirby's Adventure. I am extremely okay with raocow playing Eversion, but only on two conditions: 1. raocow can't have...

Re: smwcentral madness: Vanilla 2010

Seems like the Volcano used on the Larry's Volcano OW is the one from the ASMT overworld. GN could've used it as a baseROM maybe? Yeah, I noticed that too. I guess it's wasn't judged against him though, because it was all about the level itself, not the overworld; it's just the first non-vanilla gr...

Re: smwcentral madness: Vanilla 2010

One of the commenters brought up an interesting point, which would be to see a "true" vanilla level - no palette changing, no tile swapping, etc.; just nothing but a really good level design without using anything but the defaults. But that's thought for another time and place, because und...

Re: smwcentral madness: Vanilla 2010

Oh my god what

Oh my god _what_

There are only two explanations I'll accept for why this is 22nd place:
*The other levels are all this fantastic
*The gameplay faults (Lots of autoscrolling length, sudden bridgebuilding) -really- dragged this down in the judges' scores.

Seriously.
