Are you downloading the 1.68 version and using a clean rom when you patch..? When I download it and try and open it it works fine for me, I'll try and ask around see if anyone else is having this issue.

If you're using custom sprites or blocks it's a good idea, yeah. But if not it should be very easy for you or us to move it to the latest baserom, so it'll look better overall if you get the newest baserom but it's probably not essential.
