alex2 wrote:Just draw the tiles instead of making them all sprites.
If you mean draw sprite tiles, that's what I'm doing. I was just concerned about how many I had to draw.

If you mean that I should put it on a fg/bg layer, I can't.

Re: Graphics Discussion: Requests, help and general

asdf The school quarter ended and I finally have time to get back to work on this. I spent part of the day making another frame for the portal using paralars' method, but it didn't work out very well. Screenshot: layer2transparent.png the animation looks really jerky, and I'm just not very happy wit...

Re: Graphics Discussion: Requests, help and general

To maintain a small palette, use dithering! Create areas of two colors aligned in a checkered manner to make it look like a consistent area of a color inbetween (e. g. the shaded edges of my avatar) You could also use that to create a pseudo-semi-transparent glow around it, by checkering colored an...

Re: Graphics Discussion: Requests, help and general

I've been working on the opening cinematic for the final level, and one of the things involved has been a portal/wormhole-type object that moves slowly across the screen. It's essentially just a circular window that masks any layer 1 information that it covers. I set up the foreground and background...

Re: SBMX: Tower of Biased 2 - a contest of sorts!

I, for one, am digging the community's standard for long levels. Longer levels provide more of a challenge to the player, both from an endurance standpoint, and from the standpoint that it becomes harder to "memorize" the obstacles. It forces the player to rely much more on skill than on m...

which game? In Hydorah you can only save 3 times and in the game I suggested you have (I believe) infinite continues but no saves. I don't know about the megaman/streetfighter game.

Re: request grab-bag

In other news anon bloodlust's avatar is malware. lolwut? Google chrome updated its list of malware sites to include the image host I was using from a million years ago. Which is weird, because it's not a malware site (although it is pretty shitty). I went ahead and deleted that avatar though. I'll...

Re: request grab-bag

So indie developer Locomalito, the guy who made Hydorah, just came out with a new freeware platformer called Maldita Castilla. It's tough as nails, but really well-made and worth taking a look at. It's more or less a love letter to the old ghouls and ghosts type games, so if you try it expect to die...

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general

So now that Addmusic 5 is not coming out, there's probably no way that the sound effect detuning bug is going to be resolvable in the final level's song. For those of you who don't know what that is, the sound channels that the SNES normally uses get can be tuned using certain commands in a songs co...

Re: A2MT Discussion: OW, Bosses, and Gimmicks

Just wanted to mention that there isn't a boss in the final final level. If someone want's to make one that's fine with me, but they should probably talk to me first so it fits thematically and aesthetically.

If not, the level is really neat by itself, and I have no doubt people will enjoy it.

Re: A2MT CHECKLIST

Since I've been kinda silent on this forum for a while, I figured I'd just give a small update as to how the final level is going. In terms of the level itself, the major milestones left for me to cover are music insertion, background insertion, and fixing one final bug with one of my asm gimmicks ....

Re: Music Discussion: Requests, help, and general

so uh, I've got the midi finished for the final final level. The song intentionally mucks around with it's tuning resulting in a bunch of semi-tones. Add a whole bunch of volume slides and vibratos and this is looking messy. Is there anyone out there with perfect pitch who wouldn't mind helping out...

Re: ASM: Request, help and general discussion

So me and limepie came up with a pretty awesome way to free up 95% of my reserved slots while still keeping my level attached to a2mt. However, getting it to work is going to take some massive amounts of programming. If anyone would be willing to help me trudge through this I'd really appreciate it....

Re: ASM: Request, help and general discussion

For funky hitbox, it might be easiest to put a couple of rectangular hitbox areas along the edge of whatever the thing is (and maybe define a point past the right/left of it as one big "take damage" area). If you write your own slim hit detection routine that ignores everything about inte...

Re: ASM: Request, help and general discussion

Well, I checked your thread on SMWC, and I still kinda don't know what you're trying to do exactly. If you want a tidal wave type thing to chase the player, I don't know why you need windowing. Couldn't you just say use layer 3 in additive mode with tidal tiles on it? I mean, usually windowing is c...
