Re: Paper Mario Series
I loved Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door. The characters, the graphical style, the music... it's still one of the best RPGs ever made and I still look back on it fondly. Heck, I still get somewhat depressed when I see the cutscenes during the final battle with that crystal star music... The other ...

Re: request grab-bag
2 Player Co-op Quest 2 looks like a good hack for raocow to play. Made by cyphermur9t (behind the Mario Gives Up series and Mushroom Kingdom Meltdown, it's an interesting little hack that lets the second player control the enemies and attempt to kill Mario as he progresses through the game. Like tha...

Re: Bragging time: what games do you kick ass at?
Mario Kart, at least in terms of time trials and online play. Wario Land (especially 4), which I've thoroughly beaten on Super Hard mode. Probably Mario games in general to be honest, I've pretty much blasted through each and every one I've played in every genre without too much hassle. Which should...

Re: Game design articles and maybe discussion
What are the last two games in that roster? All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros and VS Mario Bros. Wiki articles for them: http://www.mariowiki.com/All_Night_Nippon_Super_Mario_Bros. http://www.mariowiki.com/Vs._Super_Mario_Bros. They're basically kind of like DLC type games for the original, and wer...

Re: Game design articles and maybe discussion
To be fair, people forget that originally, there were actually quite a lot of cookie cutter Super Mario Bros titles in the NES days. For example: http://nintendo3dsdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/smb.png Along with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0HQOKmAPRA But yeah, I'll add more to this in ...

Re: Game design articles and maybe discussion
If you want some more game design stuff, here's some resources I'd recommend. Sirlin's website: http://www.sirlin.net/ It's mostly about fighting games and tournament play, but he does also write about things like what makes a 2D platformer great. Game Design Companion: A Critical Analysis of Wario ...

Re: Brutal Mario Demo 9.5; Is It Real?
At the current rate, I'm almost wondering how long until carol just ups and leaves the internet. I mean seriously. How much drama has been attached to this game now? Three hoaxes, various demos being leaked, his account being hacked... It's no surprise the guy's keeping his mouth shut and staying ou...

Re: Brutal Mario Demo 9.5; Is It Real?
This again? Oh come on. When will we finally get a real update about Brutal Mario rather than yet another crappy hoax? Makes me wonder how the extra level and stuff was added to the ROM though. Given how much it glitches out when I merely try and move Mario to a different spot on the overworld in th...

Re: request grab-bag
How about a few months with no collabs?
Seriously, it seems every site under the bloody sun has a team/group project going on nowadays (or a contest) and that raocow has to somehow play each and every one of them.
How about some more one man/small team games/hacks?

Well, I beat that level entirely. Although I had to cheat when the floor's collision detection stopped working. Re: Brutal Mario Demo 9.5; Is It Real?
Sigh. Looks like I've got more emailing to do. Personally though, I'm not sure. On the one hand, it's the kind of quirky idea that a genuine Japanese hack might use it (albeit for one of their not so ASM heavy stages). On the other hand, it's supposed to be in Brutal Mario, the game which has gener...

Re: request grab-bag
You know, with how overly hard the Yoshi Hacks raocow has played in the past, it would be interesting to see him tackle 6 Extra levels of the GBA version. Just to compare. Meh, I'd think it'd be funnier to see him tackle the secret/extra levels in Yoshi's Island DS. Those were absolutely brutal. Bu...

Re: request grab-bag
what about banjo kazooie/tooie? or super mario star road (sm64 hack) It'd be interesting, but has raocow even played any 3D platformers on his channel? Could be quite an odd thing to get used to, given the very different gameplay setup/style of game design in these types of games. On the other hand...

Wario Land 4, or the other Wario Land games. Some people were working on editors for them at some point, but progress seems to have stalled.

It doesn't explain why they don't make their own archive though. I mean, other countries do so: http://www.smwhacking.de/ I'm also sure I saw a French site somewhere. But yeah, the isolationist tendencies of the Japanese suck. I think they need to get over the whole 'avoid using communities run by p...

Re: www.7atpages.jp/smw??
Now where are we supposed to find our obscure Japanese hacks!? With great difficulty. I still wonder why the hell the Japanese are so scared of just starting a SMW Central like website for their work. Call it Mariohacks.co.jp or something and make finding interesting stuff less of a trawl through f...

Re: request grab-bag
One of the later bosses had about FIFTY health with the final one having over EIGHTY hit points. Haha, seriously? You almost made me choke on my coffee there. That sounds like some hilariously bad balancing, which actually sounds par for the course for that series. Yeah, the boss design in the game...

Re: request grab-bag
I've just been playing Drama Mistery 2 again for a review, and I'll say one more thing about it: Good grief the bosses have far too much health. I mean seriously? Did every boss need about 15 health? And that's just the normal ones. One of the later bosses had about FIFTY health with the final one h...

Re: request grab-bag
Yeah, it definitely does get rather surreal. I think the final world is some sort of trip into the creator's psyche or something, because everything seems so... weird and depressing and somewhat nonsensical. Still think the bosses take way too long to die though. And some people here are gonna so gr...

Re: SMBX: The UNOFFICIAL OFFICIAL Definition of Clash!
My opinion of clash (which I shouldn't mention but will anyway) is that it's honestly not worth worrying about. I mean, keep these things in mind: 1. Fan games and hacks are fan made, released for free, by people who mostly can't draw their own graphics. For them to have absolutely anything interest...

Re: request grab-bag
By the way, what ever happened to that "8 Powers" SMW hack? Does anyone know if the makers ever completed it? I'd love to see an LP of the finished version. It's finished. Has a fairly fancy* final boss and some rather bland final levels now. * Fancy means 'for this game'. It has varied a...

Re: www.7atpages.jp/smw??
From what I heard, atpages disabled cgi scripting (or more precisely, using perl/cgi bin scripts) for hosted sites, and that took down this site because of how it was coded.
It's also apparently why the VIP 5 uploader is still up.
