Yes, that counts, which is why it's notoriously hard - in fact it's literally impossible to get the Sector X medal if you only qualified for the Blue path as a result.

I thought it was at the time; apparently it can be done but Venom II's medal counts for Venom I as well and Wolfen Mk. II count for 50 points apiece so it's hella easier to get the medal from Venom II once you know how to dogfight.
