A complete guide to (good) palette creation
Do you want your level to look less bland? Do you want to give vanilla GFX a new feel? Do you just want an eye pleasing color scheme for your level? This, my friend is for you. So, that leaves us with our first question: What is a considered a "good palette"? Well, there certainly isn't an...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
please give me a lot of feedback, but this thread seems like a lot to keep up with. Please just PM me or leave comments on the youtube video. Those will be a lot easier to find than searching the thread every day (although i suppose I could try to do that). so, two videos one showing the bonus part...

Re: A2MT's... intro?
Wouldn't it be kind of weird, to have some sort of "intro", followed by "talkhaus presents", followed by a title screen? Seems it would be a bit much to me. We should either use the "intro" screen as our giant awesome unlimited color "talkhaus presents" and sk...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
About my level, it haven't really made any progress, as I've busy with vacation... Left to do: Insert ceiling generator (Did this before, but sprite tool screwed up my other custom sprites, and my backup is at home) Get music ported (Is it possible to find any porters on SMWC and recruit them? I th...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
Anyone that can draw graphics like that should definitely have more than 2 slots. Although, you've done nicely with what you were provided, a lot of people seem to waste space in their map16 and palettes. How many ExGFX slots has Terry taken? About my level, it hasn't really made any progress,...

Re: Lookie! I Brok'd It! - ROM help thread
Well, I'm looking at the ExAnimation slot for it, and I'm seeing it as 7 frames, not 6. Also, it's 680 to 6E0, no 980 or 990 in sight. I was tired, and wrote the 6s as 9s >.> Also, the animation skipped 6E0 for some reason in the test level, (at least in my rom), but it does indeed have 7 frames, a...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
That isn't clear at all when you start the level. It just doesn't seem like very good level design. But what part isn't clear? And what's your opinion on the rest of the level? It isn't clear what you're supposed to do. The rest of the level looks okay, but I honestly don't think it brings anything...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
I also would strongly suggest a different ground palette, and possibly some ExGFX. You should also use a BG, in addition to your HDMA, since you aren't using Layer 2. As for the place where you need a key to go through the door, I would suggest changing the key's graphics to something else. You als...

Re: Lookie! I Brok'd It! - ROM help thread
Ok, so, the tile that consists of dripping water. What I want to do is make it skip the animation frame where there's nothing in the two 8x8 tiles for the drips (if you get what I'm saying). I'm not sure if I just have to remove one of the numbers on the list on the ExAnimation menu or do something...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
Ugh, I hate being away from home, all my normal SMW hacking stuff is there, so it probably is my fault. Edit: Yeah, bad rom on my end, ugh. Edit 2: Holy crap, your level is confusing. I can't even get past the first screen. So, I opened it in LM, and holy crap, I still don't know what I'm supposed t...

Dear, people... Sorry I just can't help myself. My level is almost done so probably not a whole lot of further problems, but I just don't get the side-screen exit disabled. At first I could walk off the stage on the very left screen boundry and exit the level, I blocked it with some clouds, but now...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
Ok I'll try again tomorrow. Maybe I somehow messed up the original code. And I'm only using layer 2 on one sublevel which actually wasn't the one I wad working on. But I doubt that'll make a difference. I could be setting up my code wrong too. The way I did it was paste the original code and then b...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
basically the HDMA code by itself is fine. The normal code by itself is fine. Both together make all the colors in the BG mess up and flicker and jitter. I really haven't a clue. There has to be something else wrong, I have an HDMA gradient in my BG, along with that code in my level asm file. I am ...

LDA #$01 STA $14AF LDA $148F CMP #$01 BEQ Key RTS Key: STZ $14AF RTS Okay so I can tell this does something depending on the on/off switch and whether or not Demo is holding something, but I'm not exactly sure what it does. The only thing I can find wrong with my HDMA is that it breaks when the key...

Re: Testing and Development - First post, update about respo
How do you insert HDMA things like those gradients? I'm sure it would make my level better since there's not much background? And yeah this might be a stupid question and I should probably check on SMWcentral but maybe it's not hard and requires like 2 lines of levelasm or something. Not quite two ...

It wouldn't matter if they weren't near completion anyways, seeing as we need to get all of our levels in before we can even insert the chests.chdata in the Stage Props thread wrote:I'm almost finished coding it, I just need to test it and confirm my maths.

i can't lighten the hdma cause i dont know how to i just found the code. what about this i personally think this looks better. That looks much better, but if you want to experiment.... HDMA is easy in these modern times. HDMA Gradient Ripper: http://www.smwcentral.net/download.php?id=301&type=t...
