Re: SBMX: Tower of Biased 2 - a contest of sorts!
The thing that really bothers me about the long levels is that, for the last level, Nighttime Thicket, the author posted on YouTube and he said that he only made the level as long as it was because the community likes long levels. By having community standards, it stifles individual creativity as le...

Some YouTube guy who posted this. I mean, if you can't trust some random guy on YouTube who can barely spell, who can you trust?
"The reason was because it lost points was because it lagged like crazy making it impossible for some of the judges to play. Sure glad it worked fine for raocow"

Re: SBMX: Tower of Biased 2 - a contest of sorts!
If Aquatic Abyss would have been a high ranked entry if not for the lag, it would seem that this contest is aiming for levels that are heavy on exploration and atmosphere while being light on action. That's pretty much the types of games I would spend eternity playing if I was in hell, so yeah ... m...

Re: The not quite as much Drama thread with added Mistery
As far as I know, no other levels in this game are quite as unfairly or badly designed as the mine cart one. Not saying much (I recall one secret world boss being physically impossible to kill because of terrible design), but it's unlikely raocow will lose even more lives in a later level. Although...

Re: The not quite as much Drama thread with added Mistery
haha, yeah, I was wondering how raocow was going to deal with that minecart level. I gave it about 50 tries and that was enough for me. Without save scumming I never would have made it through this game.

Re: request grab-bag
Apparently it is a fan game too. Capcom has simply taken it under their wing and given it an official release. See, other video games company CEOs who are obviously reading this, fan games are not a threat to your sales. You can use fan games to your advantage to increase your profits. Shutting them...

Re: The drama thread that involves some Mistery
There's plenty of games where a health system works well in 2D Platformers. Mega Man and Castlevania are probably the two most notable examples.

Re: Drama MISTery
Well, I played a bit more of the game and I now have a new opinion. I still think this will make for a great LP, but not because it's good. Because it's so bad . It's not bad in a boring way like 8 Powers, but in a Plan 9 From Outer Space or The Room bad. The dude tried to make a good game, but made...

Re: Drama MISTery
Yeah, I think the game looks pretty good too. Sure, it has this rough, inconsistent feel to it, but this is a fan game. That's the nature of the beast. I'd rather see a designer go for something different, even if it's rough around the edges, than play it safe and basic.

Re: Yoshi Island level design contest (no results yet)
I'm not sure what was up with that last section. I don't mean the cheap "Wizards in tunnels" crap, but the overall theme of the level. It felt like it was from a completely different level. I really wish more hackers knew when to say enough is enough regarding level length,

Re: Yoshi Island level design contest (no results yet)
That would be great. The immortality problem seriously limits the variety in level design. Although, I did enjoy the last two levels (Yoshi in Space & Kaizo Yoshi)Septentrion Pleiades wrote:I do like the idea of ASM in YI hacks. Re: Yoshi Island level design contest (no results yet)
And I'm bored already. I'm not sure what it is, but I can't seem to get into Yoshi's Island hacks. I love the game and in theory YI hacks should make for some great LPs, but they just don't work for me. Every level feels exactly the same as all the others. The Automatic level was awesome though.

Zelda 2 is awesome. It's obviously very different from the other Zeldas and a little unpolished, but that doesn't make it a bad game.

Re: request grab-bag
Rockman 4 Minus Infinity is definitely awesome, but maybe not a good idea immediately following Mari Ari's endgame. A breather in between seems like the way to go.

Re: request grab-bag
Yoshi's Island is a great game to watch as long as it doesn't reach a near triple digit episode count. A 12 level contest sounds like the perfect B side while raocow tackles endgame Mari-Ari.

Re: request grab-bag
Extra Mario Bros. strikes me as a game that is technically impressive and interesting in design, but poor from a gameplay perspective. Definitely not a game where I care to see an LP of it.

Re: farting around with prehistoric animals - Romancing Mario
Jeez raocow, all this rampant slowdown is making it hard to enjoy the videos. It can't be much fun to play either. Just take 30 seconds or so at the beginning of your next recording and fix the emulator.

Re: farting around with prehistoric animals - Romancing Mario
I did the exact same thing as raocow in this level. You first beat the level as Mario chucking shells at the switches, so when you realize that you need Yoshi it's after the puzzle's "solution" is already burned into your memory. You're also frustrated and getting tired of playing at this ...

Re: farting around with prehistoric animals - Romancing Mario
If you want to play this and other older hacks (Demo World, VIP 1,etc) without the majority of the slowdown, a useful trick (if you can use zsnes) is the following: Open zsnesw.cfg in notepad. Change "per2exec=100" to "per2exec=150". Load the game you want to play from the title...
