I agree with SAJewers that some refinement was needed for the level, but Foodland was a far cry from crap.MrDeePay wrote:Just because something is "tame by NES standards" doesn't make it any less crap.

Re: ASMBXT; World 5 is weird
Oh, Foodland was fine. Sure, it was cheap and it required some memorization, but it was pretty tame by NES standards. I had a lot fun with it.

I think it's because stupid internet restrictions with Canada ISPs Just going to point out not all Canadian provinces have internet restrictions It has nothing to do with provincial regulations. The problem is that the big ISPs basically run unchecked and impose harsh restrictions on us (such bandw...

Re: raocow Plays: ASMBXT something stupid
If you're the only one to accomplish it, after all those people playtested it, and raocow tried for 20+ minutes... it's too hard. And how is "specific" play not "perfect" play? It looks like if you deviate at all from the "speicifc" path, making the slightest mistake, ...

Re: raocow Plays: ASMBXT something stupid
One thing about the way to start flying is it is mostly momentum based. All you need is to run at max speed in one direction for a few blocks. Because of Iris/Luigi's slow acceleration, she/he needs more space. I'm glad raocow switched to Demo for the winning run. Iris does not have the running spa...

Neat little game. Reminded me quite a bit of Smart Ball for the SNES.

Haha, I just came here to recommend that. Super Mario XP isn't exactly great, but it's a decent little game that's not too long.

Re: INTERMISSION
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Random humour is funny, but it's very difficult to pull it off well. You can't go just "Woah, look at me! I'm so WACKY!!!!! Hyuk!" and expect to make the next Airplane. Whoever made these games really didn't get that.

Re: 3000 Fails in Search of Demo
Ugh, raocow. This slowdown isn't too bad right now, but it's going to be brutal if you play a more intense hack later. You might want to go back to ZSNES which is much less resource intensive.

Re: 3000 Fails in Search of Demo
Was I right in my assumption that there is no "end" so to speak? Just that castle collection thing and the derpy scene with Bowser? Nothing that triggers credits, right? Yeah, that's the end. There is a secret world after Bowser, but no more story and no end credits. Just a whole lot of G...

Re: 3000 Fails in Search of Demo
Well, I just finished the game a few minutes ago. It actually gets kinda good in the late game. It by no means becomes the next Second Reality Project, but the level design and creativity gets way better. For most of the game I was just forcing myself through it to finish the thing off, but near the...

Re: 3000 Fails in Search of Demo
the best raocow level is completely key carrying with multiple phantos of multiple sizes with autoscroll and green springing things with random wind going and a rug/tarp maze. You have no idea how much a level like this made me cringe in horror. i forgot all about the bullet generator A homing bull...

Re: 3000 Fails in Search of Demo
I don't think this game has much going for it from what I played of it. Horikawa Otane must either have a weird idea of what a good hack is, or there really aren't any good Japanese hacks left. The game itself is decent, but that might be the worst thing you could ever say about a game. It's not a ...

What's wrong with ZSNES? I started my playthrough on ZNSES and I'm in world 2 right now. Should I switch to BSNES before something horrible happens?

Re: The magical GMC Jam(s)
I'd like to know how many GMCs are left too. The first GMC was okay as a short break from a main project, but I'm not very interested in these newgrounds-style games. It's very impressive that they were made in three days, but that doesn't make them good. As for Copy Kitty, there's just too much cha...

Re: SBMX: Tower of Biased 2 - a contest of sorts!
You weren't here earlier. We already had loads of confusion over definitions of nonlinearity. I'm working off the literal definition of "The level is not a straight line". Oh, well, if that's the definition we're using, than I agree. The openness added to the level. A straight line is a g...

Re: SBMX: Tower of Biased 2 - a contest of sorts!
Also, I said I'd bring back up the discussion of linearity when I had this example. (Please, keep this an intelligent debate on game design and not an argument.) If you had flattened out Skyward Sanctuary into a straight line, would it still be as great of a level? Skyward Sanctuary was not non-lin...

Re: SBMX: Tower of Biased 2 - a contest of sorts!
Yeah, I think we can all agree with that. Forcing the player to take a short detour to hit a switch that removes a wall of out of place blocks along the main path is just terrible level design. Especially so when it's done 4 times a level.

Yeah, long and challenging is being replaced by long and boring. Huge improvement.Ignoritus wrote:Notice a theme here though. All of the levels higher up are getting easier.
