Re: A Boy and His Blob (2009) - Mint

Raocow, you laugh like ALF.

In other news, referring to the Blob as "boy" is likely to cause no end of confusion.

Re: Mega Man 3 - Classic Rock vs. Blues

I talk about Needle Man. He was always my favorite Robot Master of the Mega man 3 bunch. He doesn't need you, and he will knead you in to oblivion with his glorious spring-loaded crown. Kneedl before your king, slave.

Re: Mega Man 3 - Classic Rock vs. Blues

I'm neither a Top Spin lover nor hater, but I did always find it an effective way to deal with those damn, dirty apes in this level. I mean, Magnet Missile is probably the easiest way to deal with them, but also the more broadly applicable weapon (while at the same time not have a huge amount of amm...

Personally, I've always found there to be something particularly ignominious about cutting yourself when you're trying to slice a piece of cheese. It is not a substance which exudes dignity.

Re: Mega Man 3 - Classic Rock vs. Blues

I always found it odd, too, that this game has no opening cutscene, especially considering it has a fair bit more story than the previous game (which did have an intro cutscene), with Dr. Wily apparently reforming and working with Dr. Light to build Gamma, Robot Masters mysteriously going berserk, e...

Re: Mega Man 2 - The Beginning

The ending of Mega Man 2 is curiously abstract, all things considered. I guess it makes sense, in a way, as there isn't really much of a story, or rather what story there is is sort of a simplified version of the previous game's (if delivered more stylishly), and the apparent twist is resolved immed...

Re: Mega Man 2 - The Beginning

I wasn't familiar with that particular type of lighter at the time, so I assumed Heat Man was based on a toaster the first time I played. For as we all know, toasters all have lids. And a tendency to periodically burst in to flame. It wouldn't be the weirdest thing in the game.

Re: Mega Man 2 - The Beginning

I always used to start with Flash Man as a child, mostly out of tradition, as his stage was the first Mega Man stage I ever played, and I'm pretty sure the reason I chose his stage for my initial Mega Manning experience was indeed because, as raocow points out, he looks like a homeless drunk uncle v...

Re: Mega Man - The Man that is a Robot Kid

It's interesting that two of the Robot Masters which go down easiest in the initial fights--namely Fire Man and Guts Man--end up being the most annoying in the refight tower here. This is because the strategy used against them basically amounts "stand there and shoot; they'll go down before you do"....

Re: MYUP - Mmmmmh... YUM!

Now, I know you're generally fond of all things JUMPy, raocow, but some of these levels are designed to be unabashedly terrible. You don't have to pretend they're secretly good and clever, indeed, this probably amounts to missing the joke. You'll make the authors frown if you miss their very subtle ...

Re: Mega Man - The Man that is a Robot Kid

Well then. I was not expecting Elec Man to go down that easily. I suspect that he (and to a lesser extent the Yellow Devil, though at least the latter, unlike Elec Man, has a perfectly learnable pattern) is the primary reason this game has a sort of undeserved reputation for being so much harder tha...

Re: Mega Man - The Man that is a Robot Kid

That was pretty much always my subtle Fire Man strategy as well. I'm always a touch baffled when people claim to find him difficult, as if you have anything near full health, he will always lose the war of attrition. The refights, however, are another matter entirely... An interesting thing to note ...

Re: Obscure "Mega Man X" Game Where The Police Are After Us

I'm beginning to suspect that the shocking twist ending to this series will involve raocow pulling off his hyper-realistic mask and revealing that he is, in fact, Dr. Cain. He will then proceed to pull the hyper-realistic masks off of all other people and objects (including the hyper-realistic masks...

Dude, raocow, don't beat the Three Musketeers with their weaknesses the first time; you'll make both the story and the fortress bosses worse.

Re: Obscure "Mega Man X" Game Where The Police Are After Us

As someone casually and without irony alluded to much earlier in the thread, Gravity Beetle's Japanese name is Gravity Beetbood. Beetbood. I'd be tempted to say that this was by far the most ridiculous of all the garbled anglicisms that make up the Japanese names of the Mavericks, but in fact they g...

Re: Level Contest Japan - PLARNT

You know, it's pretty weird that there are actual roads in City Town, yet for some reason all the cars diligently avoid them and instead drive on those public square things.

Also, today's second level was all kinds of crazy in so many delightful ways.

Re: Obscure "Mega Man X" Game Where raocow is even more overpowered now

In yesterday's news, I always found it rather disappointing that Agile, despite being by far the coolest and most powerful of the X hunters the first time around, inexplicably transforms into a head embedded in to a tube which actually ends up making him easier. It just seems a cruel joke. In today'...
