Re: Vanilla Level Design Contest 11 -- Add a plus in there and you get two

I kinda wasn't big on either of today's levels. -_-;
Atmosphere was neat, though.

Re: COMING UP NEXT

I tend to really love watching the vanilla contests, personally. A lot of entries tend to use vanilla stuff in pretty creative ways I never would've thought of, and most of the levels end up being lightweight fun which is nice to have every now and then. I always like hearing raocow's thoughts on co...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

To add on with kind of a less important footnote, it's kind of strange to me that jalapeño is the example used originally for not-being-anglicized because, like, it totally is. For starters, the "j" in Spanish is /x/, a voiceless velar fricative, which doesn't exist in most modern dialects of Englis...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

My young brain was like "it's spelled differently from en garde so it's not the same even though it's a play on that" and thus me and my brother used (and still use) [ɛŋgɑɹd] most of the time but occasionally [ɑŋgɑɹd] or [əŋgɑɹd]. We're pretty inconsistent about it.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

In contrast to some others here, Kong-Fused Cliffs is far and away my least-favorite level in the game. Like, it's the only level in the whole game I can honestly say I dislike.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

The GBA version changed Swanky's minigame, so Bleak is as far as I know the only time those mechanics are used. Bosses that use completely different mechanics from the rest of the game are a huge pet peeve of mine, so I feel like I'd have hated that fight if I wasn't already familiar with the origin...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

So like, Arich has a unique-ish boss theme in the GBA version (creatively titled "Arich Boss" in the sound test). It's reused for a later boss, too, but the rest of the game all uses the same boss track. Even the final boss doesn't have a unique theme. Because of that and the fact that this is the s...

In contrast, a bunch of officially-licensed stuff spells it with a space, like the Sonic Mania OST and the Archie comics. It's still ambiguous!

I don't think Can't Buy Me Love in particular but growing up the music there reminded me of the Beatles on some level for some reason. I'm kinda curious why, I should look into that.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

DKC3 was the first one I played, at someone else's, but I did so when I was like 3 and thought I'd hallucinated it for a while until I ended up getting DKC1 in elementary school. So I actually finished each game in the trilogy in order. DKC2 is my favorite of the trilogy and I find it significantly ...

Re: All The SOUPER S@nics - 3&K - Invincible

I much prefer the Collection versions of Carnival Night and Launch Base. The Collection Ice Cap is great but the original is one of my favorite tracks in S3&K and it doesn't quite reach that.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- Brushing Up

the GBA-only boss When I was little I was so surprised that this fight existed. Cranky's "I sure didn't expect that" summed it up nicely. It's not a bad fight, but also not particularly standout-y. Maybe a little carol-y. I remember it giving me so much more trouble than the rest of the game since ...

For whatever reason, of all the levels in the game, Windy Well gave me the most trouble when I was a kid. I am not sure why, it's not as hard as many of the other endgame levels.
