Re: donkey kong country returns - He's Finally Back

I liked DKCR, once I played the 3DS version which had not-awful controls. I don't know if going for 100% on each level to begin with is a great idea - a lot of levels late game get pretty draining and it's worth taking your time with it. The game does have some issues though, but raocow isn't up to ...

Thank you for that 100% unlock code.

Now I don't have to suffer story mode a hundred times.

Re: Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove - The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Shovelry

I think Showdown's fundamental problem is that it just.....feels bad to play. You can clearly tell that there's been a tonne of effort put in, but on a basic, gameplay platforming level it just feels crap. I wish it wasn't, because I love 2D arena type things (Towerfall Ascension and Killer Queen ar...

Re: Shovel Kinght: King of Cards - Wheelin', dealin'|Prince John, that phony king of England|Yeah!

Watching raocow complete the challenge modes has inspired me to start giving them a go.

They're more fun than I thought they'd be in general.

Showdown is terrible, though.

Re: Shovel Kinght: King of Cards - Lay that country on me, babe!

And it really is kind of a sudden jump to me. From wanting to be king because of an inflated ego to being a tyrant just because? I'm curious: How do you think a person of King Knight's disposition—emotionally stunted, vapid, inflated ego, detached from reality—would rule as a monarch? Discount any ...

Re: Shovel Kinght: King of Cards - Lay that country on me, babe!

I don't know about those who played all four campaigns, but if I got this ending and knew this was the last part of the Shovel Knight saga, I'd want to do one last playthrough of Shovel of Hope to bring everything full circle and give the happy ending King Knight's campaign most certainly did not h...

It was really nice to see you start using your Heirlooms as tools in the last few videos.

That bubble frog save was perfect.

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

I don't know how anyone could even read SMWC with their insane per-user post customization. Any time I end up reading a thread there my retinas burn out going between green on black and then pink on red and then beige on grey, and random anime characters in the background. It's like every post is i...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

I think the biggest difference between ASMT and SMWCP is pretty simple: SMWCP is hubris. ASMT is a love letter to someone in particular, our affable raocow.

Like, ASMT has a lot of dumb but it's mostly fun dumb, but SMWCP is like an entire romhack of dumb, that is also boring type of dumb.

Re: Shovel Kinght: King of Cards - If he cannot have his way...

For what it's worth, you can cheese a lot of really dumb areas of levels in King Knight with the frog bubble, you can cross humongous distances and it can also save you from pits really well because bubbling resets your side dash. It's worth keeping on most of the time! (Fire Sword is pretty good fo...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Fun fact about Panic Puzzle: it originally had a time limit of 40 seconds rather than 100, so it didn’t have the whole “music getting faster” thing going on. I remember changing the time limit specifically to create that gimmick, but in hindsight I kind of regret it, as it made actually running out...

I think at worst, you should shelve the Joustus for a while. I haven't seen you that frustrated or distraught playing a game for a long time.

Re: Kirby 64 - Ribbon

That was a fun watch. raocow has just enough familiarity with the game to not get frustrated watching him play, but still had to work out all the puzzles again since they were lost to the mists of time.

I wouldn't say it's my favourite, but I always had a soft spot for Kirby 64.

At least unlike Winky or Rattly, you don't need a physics degree for basic movement.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Unbelievable type of a situation

It definitely feels like the Gyrocopter was there to allow you go access another entire world (Made incredibly obvious by the fact that raocow noted that the exact amount of extra B coins for the last Boomer would be "one extra world") and there was some serious time crunch at the end shor...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

In the first K. Rool fight at Kastle Kaos, I don't know if raocow grasped how the first phase was supposed to work: you duck under him so that he passes you, and you try to position yourself and the barrel so that after he passes by you have more time to hit him before he turns toward you again. Th...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Because that's the thing, of course the level has "just" reversed controls, you can adapt to that, and the swimming itself is not that hard, but neither of us had ever encountered reversed controls in a game before . It just makes no logical sense, why would pushing left now mean right? I...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

For the record, the reason why there's such weirdness with the barrel switcher and bees is that in 1.0 there's too much space between the despawn distance and the switch so they disappear. In later revisions additional buzzes have been added that force you to trip the switch to progress. Also for so...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Fun fact, as an Australian kid I'd never seen the word en guarde, so I originally pronounced Enguarde as "Ohn-guhr-ade". It wasn't until I encountered french in High School that I realised I'd made a mockery of it :D

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I really think the "Enguarde" thing is getting weird and kinda nitpicky towards raocow, personally. It's getting into making fun of people's accents territory.

Ropey Rumpus is cool level, I think. It just demands a lot of precision from the player that the game hasn't really asked for yet.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

With regards to Blunder, he also has additional dialogue if you open up the lost world without ever speaking to him first. And yeah, Razor Ridge is a slog. I personally disliked Kong-Fused Cliffs far more than Buzzer Barrage, but neither of them are great levels and they set the world off on a reall...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I think raocow was unfair to the game, making fun o’ the floating “theater”, since you can clearly see that it’s hanging by rope. A better question is how rope can hold up a huge plot o’ land or why said huge plot o’ land doesn’t leave any noticeable shadow on the ground below it. If you actually l...
