At least unlike Winky or Rattly, you don't need a physics degree for basic movement.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Unbelievable type of a situation

It definitely feels like the Gyrocopter was there to allow you go access another entire world (Made incredibly obvious by the fact that raocow noted that the exact amount of extra B coins for the last Boomer would be "one extra world") and there was some serious time crunch at the end shortening som...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

In the first K. Rool fight at Kastle Kaos, I don't know if raocow grasped how the first phase was supposed to work: you duck under him so that he passes you, and you try to position yourself and the barrel so that after he passes by you have more time to hit him before he turns toward you again. Th...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Because that's the thing, of course the level has "just" reversed controls, you can adapt to that, and the swimming itself is not that hard, but neither of us had ever encountered reversed controls in a game before . It just makes no logical sense, why would pushing left now mean right? I know I sa...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

For the record, the reason why there's such weirdness with the barrel switcher and bees is that in 1.0 there's too much space between the despawn distance and the switch so they disappear. In later revisions additional buzzes have been added that force you to trip the switch to progress. Also for so...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Fun fact, as an Australian kid I'd never seen the word en guarde, so I originally pronounced Enguarde as "Ohn-guhr-ade". It wasn't until I encountered french in High School that I realised I'd made a mockery of it :D

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I really think the "Enguarde" thing is getting weird and kinda nitpicky towards raocow, personally. It's getting into making fun of people's accents territory.

Ropey Rumpus is cool level, I think. It just demands a lot of precision from the player that the game hasn't really asked for yet.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

With regards to Blunder, he also has additional dialogue if you open up the lost world without ever speaking to him first. And yeah, Razor Ridge is a slog. I personally disliked Kong-Fused Cliffs far more than Buzzer Barrage, but neither of them are great levels and they set the world off on a reall...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

I think raocow was unfair to the game, making fun o’ the floating “theater”, since you can clearly see that it’s hanging by rope. A better question is how rope can hold up a huge plot o’ land or why said huge plot o’ land doesn’t leave any noticeable shadow on the ground below it. If you actually l...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Because you didn't seem to figure it out while you were playing raocow, the way Nibbla works is that

it will try and sit 3-4 tiles behind you at all times. If you turn around on the spot it'll swim past you to sit on the other side.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Okay, we're just under a third of the way to 100% and I'm not seeing any point to these collectibles at all yet. raocow is past the point where there is a point to the bonus coins, but he hasn't done the required thing to use them yet. I'm guessing he won't twig on the required thing for quite a wh...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

The level geometry behind the waterfalls is some of the most jank in the entire DKC series. It behaves really, really strangely.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

The GBA soundtrack isn't bad, but if you expected the handheld port to allow you to relive the nostalgia, the OST is a major disappoint because every track is different. Having done a bunch of GBA hacking, it was a really sensible decision - the GBA's basically incapable of good sounding low tones ...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

Also, reading the comments here, I'm surprised so many people love DKC2 but are "meh" on 3. One thing I always found about 2 (which is probably why I always enjoyed 3 better) was that the difficulty curve of 2 is really inconsistent. The easiest and hardest levels are pretty appropriately placed, b...

Watching raocow absolutely dumpster both K. Rool fights was cathartic, to be honest.

They're all pattern memorisation but hahahaha, it feels good to watch.

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- I Passed

I'm gonna guess that it's Poisonous Pipeline ? If so then I agree that that one isn't terribly great either. It'd be a lot more tolerable if jumping out of the water wasn't such an issue. Fun fact, I didn't get the level gimmick as a kid and couldn't figure out how to progress until I accidentally ...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 2 -- Saitama

I think the thing about Jungle Jinx is not so much that it's hard, but it's a really janky level for an otherwise really polished game. There's so many ways for those tyre spawns and ledge lips to really screw you up unexpectedly due to slight timing/movement shifts even if you've got reasonably pre...

Re: Wario Land 3 - With input from Samus

It's amazing how consistently awful "Above The Clouds" is as a level in this game. Like, it's the standout terrible level of this game. I somehow expunged how bad it was from my memory and today's video just reminded me of the experience of it. It appears that they got a romhacker drunk and let them...

Re: Wario Land 3 - With input from Samus

I don't know who at Nintendo R&D1 was obsessed with golf when developing this game, but they needed to put down their clubs and focus on the most interesting part of golf instead, the course design, rather than the actual hitting of a ball. As someone who actually likes Golf games, I'm constantly r...
