Re: Pikmin - Pellet Posy

Oh man it’s Pikmin! This is one of my favourite game series of all time, so I’m very much looking forward to seeing this play out.

(still hoping we actually get a Pikmin 4 at some point)

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Auf wiedersehen

Huh, I guess today’s first room was made harder by some point. In the Switch version I just played, which is a slightly older version than the PC one, the first block doesn’t fall, so you can just keep returning to it after each key part. Also today I learned something new about the mechanics of thi...

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Sampai jumpa

Congratulations on finally making it past the cube room. I’m not entirely sure I’d call it the single hardest obstacle in the level, but I’m certainly having trouble coming up with one I personally found more difficult off the top of my head; the timing you need for those corner boosts off the movin...

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Hasta la vista

Did you take another look at 7C after Farewell released? Some C-side levels were made noticeably easier around that time. I just finished up replaying the entire game, and as far as I can tell, the only thing that has changed in 7C since my first playthrough was that a wall of spikes was added to p...

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Hasta la vista

And there we go, that’s Farewell finished for me again. Total death count this time was 1705 , compared to 3251 the first run. The replay has definitely cemented this as one of my favourite platformers of all time. Even got the moon berry this time around, which I didn’t the first time. Really fun c...

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Tot ziens

It’s interesting to me that raocow has problems with corner boosts but got wavedashes down almost immediately, because for me it was the exact opposite in my first playthrough of Farewell. It took me absolutely ages to just get past the last part of the wavedash tutorial, and anything involving chai...

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Arrivederci

A little tip regarding those clouds, that helped me internalise how to use them consistently: They work just the same as, say, the traffic light blocks in chapter 1, or any other type of up-moving platform in the game. You want to jump just as they reach the end of their upward movement. edit: heck ...

Re: Celeste: Farewell - Arrivederci

Man, this game is still so incredibly good. Just watching the warmup video made me start up a new playthrough, and it’s been super satisfying to realise that some of the muscle memory still remains and being able to just blaze through the A-sides (and if not quite blazing through the B-sides as well...

Re: Subzero Heroes - That's it? No Smash?

I’m always bad at actually posting in these LP threads, but man, I have to say that this game has been super impressive all around, both in terms of technology and gameplay, and a complete joy to watch. It’s been really fun to see just how far the SMBX engine has evolved; between this and MaGLX3, it...

Re: squarshetti squeels (MaGLX3)

Not having actually played any of the levels, I’d say my favourite is Green T for having a super neat gimmick that I’d love to see more of in a less crowded level. Also I’m not entirely sure why, but for something about that level gave me huge Nitroid vibes.

Re: squarshetti squeels (MaGLX3)

I must admit, I’m way too amused by seeing the Thwomp boss ported to SMBX. It even looks even more awkward to fight than the original, since the bomb explosions don’t linger like in SMW! For better or for worse, it really does feel like that thing has become my legacy in a way at this point. Also I ...

Re: What games are you playing?

Finally getting around to playing Return of the Obra Dinn, after having good things about it for a long time. Such a wonderful detective game, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything really like it before. I’m up to just above half of the fates solved at this point, and things are definitely starting ...

Re: (MaGLX)^3 = ?

Oh man, it’s finally here! I was never super fond of the engine myself (although admittedly, I haven’t done anything with it since all the way back in the first ASMBXT), but it’s always a lot of fun to see just what kind of crazy shenanigans people can pull off with it. Also we get more of Rameau’s ...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Now that I've heard that originally you were invincible the entire time I think I understand why it's like this. It would seem that it was never expected for you to play this without taking hits, and so taking this and expecting the player to survive this onslaught with a finite amount of hits just...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Everyone focuses on how the boss isn't well balanced/designed because it was made by a 12 year old but if he really was that old at the time, it's pretty damn impressive a 12 year old made this Also to confirm, is the capsule completions saved between deaths? Or does the game expect you to do these...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Didn’t over there have another section at some point? I vaguely remember an underwater room with very similar aesthetics.

Also I think at least like half of the other levels in the hack are also among the creators’ first, so you’re in good company there, raocow. :V

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Has anyone actually beaten the original (no extra midpoint) version of King Charles's Castle without savestates? Doing two very difficult rooms followed by two very difficult bosses doesn't seem feasible. In fact, has anyone beaten the 'fixed' version either? It's feasible (though difficult), but I...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

So yeah, I’d like to apologise for that Heavy Press battle, and I really can’t blame raocow for putting a checkpoint after it. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least three different ways that I’d improve it if I went back to it today. Although in this context, I don’t think it really adds a...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

To be honest, I’m fairly certain “being able to reasonably beat the whole thing without savestates” wasn’t in the design specs for King Charles’ Castle. Although if we had had the technology, there’d definitely have been an extra midpoint in the second hub (and a couple more in the second half); one...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

If I had to guess, I’d say that weird invincible net Goopa is caused by accidentally placing two of them in the same spot, triggering the double sprite glitch when you try to hit them? It’s the only real reason I can come up with why just that one behaves weirdly. I’m fairly certain you died to it i...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

I feel like the main issue with House of Turner is the same as with a lot of the other stuff chdata made: it feels like there was a lot of “ooh, wouldn’t it be cool if the level also had this!” when designing it, and no sense of when to stop (which I guess makes sense if he was that young when he ma...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Of the levels I made for this, I think Munchy Plant Ruins is my favourite. It’s not anything super special in terms of level design, but I still really like the atmosphere and aesthetics.

Also the Use Your Illusion big Boo fight is still excellent.

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

Fun fact about Panic Puzzle: it originally had a time limit of 40 seconds rather than 100, so it didn’t have the whole “music getting faster” thing going on. I remember changing the time limit specifically to create that gimmick, but in hindsight I kind of regret it, as it made actually running out ...

Re: ASMT 11th Anniversary LP - Hey There Guy

some o’ the phantos drunkenly going into hyperdrive sometimes. I mean, the phantos aren't natively part of SMW code, so I can only assume that it was made without a limit to its speed value, and similar to how aggression works in the original CIV game and how Ghandi's incredibly low aggression can'...
