Re: Betterified VI - Bestified - Janus Cannon
TOAD HOUSE EXTREME might not just be a funny warp back to idk. That's a very preventable zip setup above the pipe you come out of, that's not necessarily a thing but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a thing

Re: MAFAB 3 - Feud At Beach
Nah raocow you didn't get your buttons mixed up, the prompts are just wrong; assuming one lays out their controls SMW-style B should only be Jump (on Nintendo controllers) or Alt-Jump (on everything else). Unless the author was either playing SMBX on a GameCube controller (????? pls no) or the inten...

Re: Paper Mario - The Last Stage
TTYD is definitely "a good sequel" in the purest sense - it expands on basically everything from the original without losing the "simple RPG" spirit of it. It's a fantastic game and if you enjoyed 64 you'd probably love it... ...but encounters are definitely still encounters in t...

Re: Paper Mario - Strider
Regarding the Star Piece panels, there's a minor quality-of-life improvement in finding them around this point that the game never tells you about (to my knowledge): The Ultra Hammer is also able to flip them. Went and independently verified: there is one line of dialogue that implies this and for ...

Re: CLDC 2020 - It's been a while
So I'd argue the cloud cover on the first level isn't inherently bad - there's definitely a gameplay hook to be had in asking the player to keep an eye on what's ahead and have a good sense of things' speeds and such - but you've really really gotta be careful with that and I feel like this one... w...

Re: CLDC 2020 - It's been a while
Man between the Redrawn graphics, the health system, the Elite Koopas and the generators 59th really feels like we pulled it out of a time capsule from the 2010s
Which isn't as funny remembering we basically did pull it out of a time capsule from 2020, but nonetheless

Re: Paper Mario - The Bridge of Khazad-dûm
That's at least part of why I've been wrapping my stuff in spoiler tags (or trying to, anyway) - that way my backseating is opt-in. That's the only correct way to do it, tbh. Offer the info, but don't force it onto people, let 'em click the spoiler if they want it. I've also been making sure before...

Re: Paper Mario - Over Hill and Under Hill
Yeah no people never listen on the internet. Doesn't matter how explicit you are for how long about not wanting advice, people always, without fail, do it anyway and then lie to themselves and to you that it's "just because they care :)" or whatever. (Hot tip: if they cared maybe they'd fu...

Re: Paper Mario - (thread title too short)
Little tip to something that might save time next time you have a back-and-forth kinda day: There are a few badges that'll let you skip weak encounters. You should be able to get one of 'em in Rowf's shop, if you want it for next time. If you don't wanna spend the money, one of the others is coming ...

okay im finishing watching episode 4 and raocow's all like "save until i get 25. save until i get 25" and how much should i bet that you can actually get all of them within the amount of star pieces you get in the game if you try to go for Most% but since raocow won't be buying anything u...

Re: Paper Mario - At the Sign of the Prancing Pony
Yeah between Russ T. and Merluvlee this game is extremely good about making sure you know everything you need to know. It'll give you every hint you need, it'll tell you everything you missed, the only real exception being a lot of the recipes (largely optional) and a few oddly-worded badge descript...

Re: Paper Mario - A Long-Expected Party
Been waiting for this one ever since I heard how Superstar Saga went :rao: It was bound to happen eventually the game's extremely obvious that you need to level BP to use more attacks, rather than FP, we honestly wouldn't be shocked if raocow plays this game like we do and just. maxxes BP first. and...

Re: All the S@nics - Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood - Lara-Sued
I would give Omega one more chance if only that he's one more party member with a reliable armour-piercing move in addition to Shadow? Not just that, it (claims to) apply Vulnerable too, which could help the rest of the party without piercing moves actually be useful against armored stuff. I'm also...

Re: All the S@nics - Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood - Lara-Sued
re: the description, I don't think the reason they feel so bad is as deep as them running counter to the way RPGs are meant to be or anything like that; Mario RPGs have skill checks in the form of Timed Hits/Action Commands/etc. too, whiffing them can outright kill you depending on how risky you pla...

Re: All the S@nics - Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood - Lara-Sued
I meant to remark about this after the "I guess we'll just Tantrum the robot for damage" bit of the triple-armored-dude fight, but I get the impression a lot of the POW moves are more meant for their statuses than their actual damage. Some of them are obviously pure damage buttons (Chaos S...

Re: All the S@nics - Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood - Lara-Sued
Been catching up with this over the past couple nights. I think I remember you saying in one of the earlier episodes that "the missing feels so bad, this is why I don't play RPGs" or something to that effect? Not to be one of those "hey raocow you should play more RPGs" people, b...

Re: Rockman 7 EP - Enkinled Piles
Late, but I've been thinking for the past several videos Eddie probably refills on-death. A W-tank might work and is essentially free to try, but I don't particularly expect it to if no other conventional means of refilling him works >.>

Re: Make a Good Level 4 - The Imminent Death of Mario
All three of today's levels are fantastic but I'd like to give a special shout-out to the wrapping in Bubble Wrap not being a janky mess like I remember wrap-around always used to be in SMW. This version looks super clean and it's just excellent.

Re: Make a Good Level 4 - The Everlasting, Consuming Void
I think the thing with WL3's blocks (i.e. Dito's frame of reference) is that it's not just that they don't have outlines but they also specifically look like background , right? Like in terms of color and stuff. idk I've never played the game and haven't seen it since raocow's LP Also today's level ...

Re: Make a Good Level 4 - The Everlasting, Consuming Void
Over in SMBX land we did a variation on the JUMP style mixed with the old SMBX style of the player's icon being in the center of the block, where the NPC-solid variant looks distinctly passthrough to the player (hollow, no outline), and vice-versa (outline, stronger fill). I think they work pretty ...
