Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

I mean, I think we're probably done? Any more talk on the current (or month-old) subject would just be more "hey here's my opinion" "HOW DARE YOU" so I can't imagine it'd be productive.

Some kind of update would be neat, though. Where's this contest at?

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

You guys have created examples of two adjectives working for level design, but none of the examples frankly excite me. That's... just you though. You said that locations is the only option that makes sense. Dragon Fogel disagrees. You guys have created examples of two adjectives working for level d...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

For what it's worth, I'm now fully behind Verb, Adjective, Location, NPC, and Any of the Above, and I encourage anyone else who thinks this is good to speak up. I still prefer having two locations, but I won't be heartbroken if this gets chosen as the gimmick. You guys have created examples of two ...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

They can take a hit in points if they don't want to use both locations. That's a legitimate choice to make. They can but then again, the gimmick didn't have to be structured like that. And honestly - rather than addressing a point raised about a gimmick, telling entrants to not use it - it's a poor...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

They can take a hit in points if they don't want to use both locations. That's a legitimate choice to make. As such I don't think "they shouldn't have to" amounts to a good argument against a system that fosters creativity in design. You don't really have to follow any part of the scoring rubric if ...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

Having two separate location categories doesn't mean you need to make the level such that you travel between multiple locations. I think in practice most people will combine them. Take the sample chart Sturg posted before: http://i.imgur.com/ppRwGqf.png Looking at the two location lists I'd personal...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

I agree that chopping off the Verb category makes the most sense. The Adjective category covers that well enough. I don't think leaving it in would necessarily make the current gimmick too restrictive but going from 5 lists to 4 makes perfect sense for complexity's sake. I disagree with the idea of ...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

I like the shorter time limit in theory but it happened to coincide with some harsh stuff at work for me last contest which meant I had even less time to work on it so I dunno. I'm not sure if a lot of other people could be put in similar situations? It basically meant I had to rush my submission re...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

I think I mentioned it in the voting but I'm not sure on the difficulty option, it feels to me like everyone is just going to take hard. Why would you ever take the normal option if you're trying to win? I'm kinda iffy on the forced NPC as well, but that's more because I'm still not used to SMBX an...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

IIRC a Sptentrion (or was it pholtos?) video testing levels with commentary got claimed. Plus I believe raocow has said before he's gotten claims from vanilla SMW music. If that's the case then testing the music is definitely a good idea. The other thing I'd recommend that I don't think is too limi...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

Okay let's see if typing this mobile works. Re: ContentID- Has the system actually caught stuff in the ASMBXT/MAGLX LPs? I'm not sure how big of a deal the music is with raocow talking over it and other noises. I'd like to keep the musical restrictions to a minimum; musical choice is a huge part of ...

Re: MAGLX3 - Pre-Discussion/Feedback Thread

Around when do we expect judge choosing to happen and how? I don't remember how they were chosen the last two times but I'm super interested in judging and would like to do some sort of application dealio whenever possible.

Re: So You Want to Run MaGL X3? - Stay Tuned for Voting

Also, I do not think level design inharently is connected to ability to host or judge a contest. If they even make a level, it would be in the post game. Also, if someone is bad at normal level design does not mean they are bad at hub design. Also, the showrunner does not necessarily have to help w...

Re: So You Want to Run MaGL X3? - Stay Tuned for Voting

Real talk, it'd be kind of absurd not to take the person into account when voting. Some people just have more experience than others. Willhart, just as an example, has done a huge amount of work in nearly every (if not every) major SMBX project to come out of the Talkhaus. He's a proven good level d...

Re: So You Want to Run MaGL X3? Applications due 03/19/2017 @11:59pm

Hey I'm alive let's talk about a contest. I understand the reasons behind the proposed limitations, but I'm not sure we can expect the contest to be as huge as the last one anyway for a few reasons: 1. Horikawa set out to make MaglX2 a spectacle. She advertised the hell out of it and specifically ho...

Re: Salt n' Batteries - A Wide Selection of LP's For Reasonable Prices

Here's the third episode, after a thousand years of waiting. Our upload schedule is definitely gonna be a bit weird for now, since Pichu isn't editing for the time being. Filesizes are hard.

Re: Salt n' Batteries - A Wide Selection of LP's For Reasonable Prices

Why is this channel cursed to play bad games? I figured I'd help you advertise in a timely fashion this time. Thank you for posting the video! We've been lazy lately. Also, new videos should be up hopefully today. The filesize on these MN9 videos is way bigger than we're used to dealing with and we...

Re: Salt n' Batteries - A Wide Selection of LP's For Reasonable Prices

....You know what the sad part about all of this is? This game isn't even the most repetitive game I played as a child. That... goes to Digimon World 2. Yes, I was playing Monster Rancher AND Digimon. Also, I agree that Phoenix is pretty bad in his Battle Card iteration. I don't think this is the m...

Re: Salt n' Batteries - A Wide Selection of LP's For Reasonable Prices

We need a horror game or something based on the Ketchup men. Monster Rancher Battle Card is the scariest horror game. No other game makes you go through terrifying ruins filled with Ketchup Men, Minty Fresh Boys, Irishmen and Tristans. Speaking of the scary game: vV7o1I6sI-4 The Finale is next. I h...
