Re: All the S@nics - Unleashed (WiiS2) - Hungry Like the Wolf

Regarding missions for this version: There's some interesting stuff in there, but it's definitely a bit of a mixed bag. Whilst some of it is the standard 'same-level-with-a-condition' stuff we've seen for a while, there are some missions with completely original level segments buried in the list - e...

Re: *X3 WINNER CONGRATS TO ENJL* the one with the seasonal allergies

haha wow, I didn't want to spoil what was made after I set up the end of time section, but people followed on really well. A lot of really clever ideas and thematic iterations came together. I hope I didn't make people feel too constrained or cause too many problems in cleanup, but the end result is...

Re: 14 :) (MaGLX3)

It would really depend on how fast it scrolled. Too fast and it becomes a chore to actually go where ypu want. Too slow and it might actually be worse than no scrolling at all. Of course, I'm just speaking simplistically here, in a perfect world there'd be more control and variables that go into it...

Re: 14 :) (MaGLX3)

Even leaving aside font or textbox styling, I do wonder how many text heavy levels would feel better if the text just scrolled. UI presentation is so thoroughly fundamental to absorbing text and out of the box we don't have a lot we can do about it. We do have other solutions of course, but in this ...

Re: And the cow chased the cat over the moon (MaGLX3)

Man, hard to believe after all this time it's finally here. Feels surreal seeing this after so long, but the wait was worth it! And, uh, the fact that it came today of all days is just madness really. The universe did all it could to coincide these two events, even if it isn't the best of days for m...

misheard lyrics etc https://youtu.be/mrAWygDNggM?list=PLoO5geBv8sdvA_nxOT3zXtoprg6yLRn4H&t=63 Noticing this fashionably late, but that's wild, I finally hear it now, haha. Still, I get why I always misheard it, the 'ey-you-don't' part is kinda slurred together in the source sample, so at high p...

Re: All The S@nics - Rush - Earth

I hope we can all at least agree the song says "Ya don't stop you proceed" and not something else. That'd be silly. It's 'yell stop' and you know it, stop trying to turn the world against me... :( I feel like no matter how many times I try to hear the 'right lyrics' my ears just can't gra...

Re: squarshetti squeels (MaGLX3)

Looking at this level and some more recent ones also reminded me of my biggest regret and fear when I submitted my level. That I made something that's just too long to really be fun. I didn't think then that my level would have so much company. It is a bit unfortunate when a level's biggest problem...

Re: All Of Sh@d@w - 1 - Since I Lost You

Ah finally, time for Shadow and Maria's dream team adventures. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/178110717143154688/818787421448699934/unknown.png (Screenshot from a playthrough I did with a friend late last year, controlling Maria is a joy (of sorts). At least she had her vengeance.) Even as s...

Re: YUMP2 - 4 - Around the World

I can't speak for how it feels to play, but it was a treat to watch. Whilst there wasn't much of a sense of progression throughout, I loved how the switch palace aesthetic faded out slowly over the levels and slowly faded back in towards the end, it's a nice touch. I do also have a soft spot for exp...

Re: SMWCX - Emerald Hill Zone

I'm going to put my vote down for the Official Pronunciation of this game to be "smooks" instead of the current alphabet soup. I'm intrigued to see where this goes; I wasn't aware of its existence so it's definitely piqued my curiosity. Whilst I would say romp-style levels aren't my thing,...

Re: merak mzagn √-1: cube root my ass

So wait, let's get serious as to the narrative here for a second. As several have pointed out √-1 refers to i or imaginary numbers - but we really need to go further beyond this point to truly ask the hard-hitting questions: 1. Is this game taking place on an imaginary plane of existence? 2. Has Meg...

Re: VIP 3 Redux: The Pre-Throne of Hype

As I said in VIP2 Redux's thread, it's neat to see these games again to see how well they hold up. I've been more so looking forward to this one in particular, since this one was always the 'real' start to the VIP series. Hopefully everything goes well, my memory of 3 is still very fuzzy here and th...

Re: DRAMA MISTERY 2: ALEGRIA PARADOXAL - subtitle

I find it very tough to really pin my stance on this game as a whole. Sure, from an isolated perspective I completely agree with the 'teenage/inexperience' view discussed here and in the video, it's something I went through myself extensively during my early-to-mid teenage years. But to me, that vie...

Re: DRAMA MISTERY 2: ALEGRIA PARADOXAL - subtitle

I love how halfway through the post-boss scene, Kooper blindly trusts the Emperor's word, yet at the end aggressively doubts and threatens him. No wonder Kooper looks so constantly enraged if he's burying these massively conflicting social trust issues. Poor guy just needs a hug.

Re: Call of Cthulhu - A casual vacation in R'lyeh

Well now this is intriguingly different. The abandonment of standard Mario World level ends and world maps is certainly helping this create a bit of a different atmosphere, although it does seem to have a slight hint of silliness with some of the text and the random cars. Curious to see where this g...

Re: JUMP - Let's meet again at JUMP½

I feel like JUMP's biggest problem is that in terms of difficulty the game didn't seem to know which audience to be built towards. The bulk of the first half of the game and a decent portion of the second contains difficult challenges, but with many checkpoints, quick restarts, and occasional skip a...

Re: JUMP - actually stands for "Jolpe Utterly Made Poop" and maybe "Jolly Upsetting Moving Podoboos"

Phew, finally caught up again, it's good to have returned back to the present. It's a small thing, but I've got a lot of respect for the fact that the music continues even when you die in this level, little touches like that go a long way to help establish an atmosphere and that really stood out to ...

Re: JUMP - Don't be hasty, this must be talkhaus' Mario Party.

I'm a day behind on videos currently and I'm not sure if this is something that's been brought up before, but when watching 'Keep a Positive Altitude' just now, it did make me wonder if an opportunity was missed by not having multi-midpoint longer levels represented by a larger circle on the overwor...

Re: JUMP - Don't be hasty, this must be talkhaus' Mario Party.

Holy cow, what an impressive level that was. I love how it twists your expectations by making you think it's just a standard bridge building level and then it suddenly becomes this innovative puzzle level that keeps pushing its ideas further and further (and even further with the secret exit). Extre...

Re: JUMP - Don't be hasty, this must be talkhaus' Mario Party.

That was perhaps the rustiest level we've seen so far. Not bad by any means, but the little annoyances in the first half and the conveyance issues in the second do make it seem unnecessarily frustrating. All that being said, it was a neat idea, and I loved how silly the second half was, but it could...
