Re: All Of Sh@d@w - SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (2006) - I TOLD YOU NOT TO TOUCH IT!

Sonic '06 does have an awesome soundtrack though... That orchestral mix of "His World" still gives me chills, even if the boss battle itself was general Sonic '06 quality. Also like Mephiles's themes. They're nice and creepy. ...and there, that is all the positive things I can say about So...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Episode 2 - Unfamiliar Ceilings

A direct link to Epistle 3, if anyone wants to read it for themselves: https://www.marclaidlaw.com/epistle-3/ As was previously stated, this is a general idea of where the writers saw the story going at the time work stopped on the Episode. Marc himself points out that, had work continued, the story...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Episode 2 - The Scene Below the Water

Yeah, I figured raocow would have difficulty with this part.

But hey, at least it's over, right?

Re: Half-Life 2 - Episode 2 - Flashback

Another HL2 development fun fact: The grenade in the dumpster is another playtesting oddity. A playtester tossed a grenade into the dumpster on a whim, and the physics engine, in a million-to-one chance, just happened to bounce the grenade back out at him shortly before the zombie jumped out. This s...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Episode 1 - Caretaker

The only alien weapon he's been using is the Combine Dark Energy Repeater, which... seems mostly identical in operation to a submachine gun, which he already knew how to use.

It's the rocket launcher and crossbow I'm more confused as to how he knows how to use them so well.

Re: Half-Life 2 - Episode 1 - Encounter at Farpoint

What did Alyx do before all this? More of the same. She was a baby at the time of Black Mesa (the first game), so pretty much her whole life has been with the Resistance. (Thanks to the Combine's suppression field, this also makes her among the youngest humans alive.) How to hack Combine systems, ho...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Episode 1 - The Tower Treasure

On the Stalkers and their amputations: The Combine doesn't want them to just be slaves... they want the Stalkers to be in severe pain and suffering at all times while being slaves. They cut off the limbs and put painful prosthetics in place, just enough to let the Stalkers perform menial tasks, but ...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Lost in the Sauce

"Did they have problems with players like not getting things?" ... ... ... ...No comment. Fun fact time: The sequence where D0g shakes his head when Alyx asks if he did the math was originally a scripting error. D0g just randomly happened to shake his head right after Alyx's question. The ...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Lost in the Sauce

The thing about HL in general is that the player maintains control throughout the whole story, no matter the circumstance. This gets ignored a lot in discussions of this game, but this is very much in line with the philosophy imposed on this series, that the narrative is more or less directed by th...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Dr. Freeman I can smell burnt toast

So set up an unwinnable scripted combat scene and have the player get captured that way, Valve! You've done that before! It didn't read like an actual solution Don't see why not. Have the game force Gordon to lose and get captured. Maybe the Combine knock him out. He wakes up a few minutes later in...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Dr. Freeman I can smell burnt toast

And here the player has to climb into a Combine pod again . Truly the height of stupid actions Gordon could possibly take after what happened last time! And just for no reason other than the developers needed you to be captured for the sake of the story. So set up an unwinnable scripted combat scene...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Inubashiri

Ah, the Citadel. I agree with raocow: the architecture is kind of bland and boring yet at the same time doesn't look like something humanity would ever build. It's drab and utilitarian, yet also alien. Oppressive and foreboding, and seeming to follow some other form of logic. This level is tons of f...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Spatial Energy Field

This is kinda what I meant by this section of the game dragging. You're just wandering around the maze of a broken city shooting any Combine you see and occasionally getting directed to blow up Striders and Gunships, or turn off energy fields. It's all kind of aimless and just... keeps... going... A...

Re: Half-Life 2 - on the run

I think you get an achievement for it, but there's usually not much reason to. Not unless you already had the gravity gun out at the time the grenade came flying at you. I do agree with raocow, I feel like this section of the game kinda drags. I much prefer being the One Free Man wading through zomb...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Walkie Talkie Shooty

The "hopper" mines the Combine use confuse me. The light up like a Christmas tree, making really obvious loud clicking sounds, and when triggered they go "BEEP BEEP" and jump six feet up in the air before exploding, giving the target ample time to run away. Who. Designed. These. ...

Re: Half-Life 2 - Turret Town USA

I am truly in awe of raocow's turret placement skills.

Fun fact that might be incredibly obvious: Dr. Kleiner's pet headcrab is named after the actress Hedy Lamarr.

Hedy... because headcrabs... (rimshot)

Re: Half-Life 2 - George Washingtub

Re: All The S@nics - SA² - Happy yearaversary, All The S@nics!!!

I realize the singer had to write the lyrics like, in an afternoon, but the lyrics for the Knuckles themes always make me wonder why anyone would allow those to be released. They're just... so terrible, universally.

I always love Dr Breen's rant in this part. "WTF is wrong with you guys, you are a totalitarian military and you're getting your asses kicked by an untrained physicist!"
