Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Unbelievable type of a situation

(paraphrased) DKC3 doesn't have the "spark" because its level design makes you wait a lot. Interestingly enough, I have a wildly different opinion on this. I don't think the slower gameplay rhythm is a problem at all. I think the "spark" is more about the game as a piece of art (including graphics,...

Re: Donkey Kong Country 3 - Welcome to Kanada!

It's literally the only time the water bounce is required Interestingly, while you are clearly intended to use the water bounce, it is possible to use Dixie to obtain get to this bonus room . That said, water bounce is easier. This method doesn't even seem that hard, it seems they're not even using...

Re: Celeste - Everest

Hmm you're right, I guess I was considering a "beat it now or pretty fast" point a view, but if you give raocow 2 weeks I think he can do it. I think his performance at Hollow Knight lowered my estimates, but he just wasn't that good at that specific game.

Re: Celeste - Everest

Chapter 9 is incredibly hard. I would say that it's harder than the version of Pantheon of Hallownest which raocow faced (with several nerfed bosses).
I'm not sure raocow can beat it,
but at least mistakes don't kick you back very far.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Drama Mistery

Piranha Bean drops one of two items, the Piranha Swing or Piranha Suit, depending on the method by which you defeat it. But there's no way to get both; you can only get one or the other, meaning it's impossible to collect every item in the game. They fixed it in the remake, so it's definitely a mis...

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - SMWCP

So, I just want to take a moment to discuss the music in this game, which in many cases has been extremely good (except for maybe the town theme). I've been watching A Raving Loon's FFV FJF runs, and today he mentioned how, when you spend enough time playing games like these, you can start sussing ...

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Kouhai

Don't forget to use your Bros attacks on dangerous enemies! Also, notice than when you clip the wings off a Parabeanie, it becomes a regular Beanie and does way less damage, so you may want to focus first on getting rid of both sets of wings before actually killing them.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - The Ninji Saga

Speaking of stats, I wonder what's more preferable between HP and defense. Obviously if your max health is so low that you regularly go into single digits, you would probably want to raise your HP, but a smart RPG system would reward some investment to defense. Healing items/abilities with fixed he...

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Rob-Omb's Quest

Would there be any chance that the imperfect emulation is making the minigame clock run faster for some reason? I remember having this in Donkey Kong 64, making a lot of timed challenges impossible with the wrong emulator.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - Kamek's Revenge

Re: damage numbers. If you don't like small numbers, just pretend there's a "k" attached to all of them, thus making 9 into 9000! Also, I trust rao will adapt and improve. This game is super light on the RPG mechanics, as you basically only ever attack, and heal when needed. There's a tiny bit of el...

I feel that this game isn't good/polished enough to merit raocow trying so hard at beating it legit. How about going back to good old savestates?

Re: HOLLOW KNIGHT - Blessings

Flukenest replaces shade soul with 16 flukes(9 if you have the weaker version of the spell) that each deal 4 damage, 5 if you have shaman stone. So that's up to 80 damage if you shotgun bosses with it, which is... a lot. The only time normal shade soul can match this is when it also has shaman ston...

Re: HOLLOW KNIGHT - Blessings

Honestly, you did a great job fighting PV here. It doesn't feel like he took you that long to beat at all (30 minutes to an hour?). But you're right that your current fighting style makes facing him at the end of a longish boss rush not a good idea. I recommend practicing some more before attempting...

I think you might have reached a point where you can't and shouldn't just go with the LP format. You might want to stop recording for a while and just practice on your own.

Re: HOLLOW KNIGHT - Hide and Go Shriek

This video made me realise something about this game's movement mechanics. They're mostly very simple and extremely responsive: moving makes you reach maximum speed pretty much instantly, the pogo effect is quasi instantaneous, wall-jumping as well and so on. With one exception! The double jump has ...

Back in 2007 (?), the first LPs I ever watched were of Mega Man games on Dailymotion, by an individual who went under 13/f/cali. Can't find those either.
