Re: Street Fighter X MegaMan - A new challenger arrived
Huh, they actually made those dopey bracelets-on-a-stick from Mega Man 1 look vaguely half-respectable in their giant forms. Well I'll be. I've noticed I tend to become a lot more careless as well when fighting bosses with special weapons rather than with the buster/plasma cannon. Of course, I prefe...

Re: Street Fighter X MegaMan - A new challenger arrived
Bosses definitely are challenging if they can make direct contact with you. In most cases, that's what deals the most damage in this game. It's what deals the most damage in most Mega Man games, though, no? Generally, when given the choice between being hit by the boss's projectile and the boss its...

"Oh, I can charge!" *proceeds to never charge again*
And while I agree the design of this level was pretty dire, I don't think the comparison to Kung Fu for the NES was fair. There wasn't nearly enough officially sanctioned violence against children, for one.

Re: Tower of Biased 2
Welp, that's the end of that series. Sure was a humdinger of a thinger while it lasted. And I'm pretty sure raocow's beating this game in three levels officially makes him the finest SMBX player of all time. Feel free to begin composing your songs and epic poems to commemorate this occurrence now.

Re: The drama thread that involves some Mistery
There are many varieties of perennial ferns, Raobert; they appear to wither away in the winter, but recover again come spring. Which again shows the advantages of being able to roll with the punches. And there's so much more that could have been done with the trans-boo-mation level. Another underuti...

Re: The drama thread that involves some Mistery
Curiously, the "rain occurs only in 2D plains which are interrupted entirely by a thin, wall-less ceiling" is perplexingly common in hacks, even in instances where the rain has no gameplay effect. More curiously still, when this is diagonally falling rain, one will often see the rain cut i...

Re: Drama MISTery
I really liked diagonal lava slide as a concept, but it seems to me a lot more could have been down with the actual layout of the level itself. Alas, the level simply seemed to content to simply take a particular enemy and have the player to engage in five 1-on-1 encounters with it in a row before s...

Re: Drama MISTery
A "nappy" is a sort of undergarment for incontinent individuals, or what is known in North American parlance as a "diaper". In the US, it is also used as a colloquial adjective to describe hair (and, to the best of my knowledge, nothing other than hair), in which context it means...

Re: Yoshi Island level design contest (no results yet)
The egg-spewing plant is indeed called an Egg-Plant; Hootie the Blue Dog, if I recall correctly, is that weird fish/Piranha Plant mutant that circles landmasses. But I'm sure even their friends mix them up all the time. As for the level itself, it was oozing with character in the superterranean sect...

Re: MariAri Trap Tower - No, not THAT kind of trap
Now, now, I'm sure that raocow's intentionally committing suicide while standing before the unlocked portal on victory's doorstep with a "Congratulations raocow!" banner mounted over the frame was hardly the result of an egregious oversight, but rather due to his having enjoyed the stage s...

Indeed. It's the clunky controls, ill-thought-through life system and tedious overworld travel which make it a bad game. The Doctor wrote:It's obviously very different from the other Zeldas and a little unpolished, but that doesn't make it a bad game.

Re: SMBX: VIP1... i mean, Super Talking Time Bros. 1
That overgrown tower looked a lot more compelling on the overworld than it did in the stage itself. Pity; that's an æsthetic theme that's always appealed to me. The underwater portion of the silhouette level had a magnificent atmosphere, though, especially the steady descent into the blackness at th...

Raobert, Raobert, you keep forgetting that keys may conquer foes in this game. There is no need for you to stand about exposed to your enemies like a single, delicate daisy on an empty, barren steppe, alone and defenseless against the winds that storm and whip about you when you possess the power to...

Re: Distorted Travesty 2 - I'd say Boogaloo but it's overused
This was a bit of an odd one. After the epic nature of the first installment, the shorter, more condensed form of this game stands out in sharp contrast. In certain respects in almost feels like a Gameboy adaptation of a popular SNES series, which were often decent to good games in their own right, ...

Re: farting around with prehistoric animals - Romancing Mario
I've got to admit I'm less charmed than raocow with this one. I have to agree with the "stuck in 2008" comment; this hack seemed to have a lot of the same things I've seen before in other Japanese hacks (many, many times), delivered competently, but without doing very much new with them. T...

...And continuing on the TSRP theme, let's not forget that one section of Bowser's Starship in the original game/reloaded version, which requires you to go up and go down, and possibly get back up and turn around, point your fingers and do the twist.

One really must admire raocow's dogged determination to prove, in the face of all evidence seemingly attesting to the contrary, that fire is in reality the top secret ideal method for dealing with red Paratroopas.

Re: farting around with prehistoric animals - Romancing Mario
Judging solely from the text-free visuals yesterday, the choice of overworld music and the unusual overworld layout, I had assumed that this was going to have quite an epic and elaborate story, but nope, it was just a sort of Scarlet Devil Mario-esque "Lawks-a-mercy, Bowser is in space for some...
